Note: Let say people not working at all or not qualify for SSA, they receive $900 per month from SSI money but for people who worked only received $600 per month from SSA, government will add $300 per month or whatever the cost of living for each state. However, if that person decided to move and live outside the U.S.A (example, like Cambodia) individual only receive SSA money and government will cut the $300 per month they added. When you come back to live in the U.S.A and let them know they will add SSI money back on. I know individual who came to the U.S.A and worked about 11 years, he is receiving about $500 per month from SSA and government added more money for cost of living while living in the U.S.A. When he decided to go and live in Cambodia, he only receives SSA money. For his SSA money he puts direct deposit into his bank, and he withdraws his money from ATM in Cambodia. Hope this information help who wants to live in Cambodia off and on during retirement.

Just note: You can still work whatever you want, and you still receive retirement money. They have limit on how much you can earn per year without paying addition tax. However, when you retired, but keep working you have to file income tax return at the end of each year. When file income tax return it has line/form to be filled out for individual who receive retirement money. If you earn a lot at the end of each year and file income return as normal, they will increase your monthly retirement a few months after SSA record what you earned in SSA system. My cousin keeps working full time+ for 5 years after he retired at 65. I helped with his income tax return as normal at the end of each year.
