I live here in Fort Myers and I stayed here for the hurricane it's just crazy to see all the stuff about the hurricane after experiencing it I remember waking up and looking downstairs and just seeing water we're still getting things fixed in the house. I'm just glad to be here.

It's like a concrete and tar block stuck in the ocean with lots of sediment and chemical runoff. Besides the 600 people a week that move in.

From Hurricane Andrew State of Florida got tough building codes, and it is my sincere hope if people still want to live right next to the big ocean waters, it would be mandatory to build on 20 feet stilts to allow the heavy mass to flow underneath and take away the impact of the moving mass to the structures, just like in Key West. Florida's West Coast is stunningly gorgeous paradise, but State's Governor's statements about "once in a 500-year event" are both ridiculous and clownish, at best. There will be another event within the next 10 years, perhaps a number of times within that time period, possibly a stronger Hurricane than Ian was. Safety is job #1, and building on stilts is the way for people to keep on enjoying the unique, beautiful sub-tropical paradise. "Once-in-a-100-year-", or "Once-in-a-500-year-event"-statements do not reflect the new normal.

These structures were designed to withstand these severe winds and surges. This is still child’s play compared to Hurricane Camille and Katrina.
