Oceanside's "Top Gun" Cottage

- The Queen-Anne Victorian cottage that was used as Kelly McGillis' house in the 1986 movie "Top Gun" is featured in this "About San Diego" story. The 1887 house is in Oceanside, CA just north of San Diego. Plans are to relocate the currently abandoned historic house one block and restore it to its original appearance.
I love this old house and hope the city does finally get around to saving it from destruction! It's part of my family's history as my father grew up in it, living there from about 1927 into the early 40's. He helped do the addition to the back of the house and the little building/apartment just behind it. They used that as a rental to help get by during the depression. My grandmother continued to live there into the mid 60's.
it still stands and they fenced it. Everything around it is gone, only this house stands. Ill link you pictures I made a few days ago:

@@LegendKiller1fan it’s a pie 🥧 shop! They sell apple and cherry pies for $3 a piece which mind you they are really small! But the cherry 🍒 🥧 is delicious 😋

In 1986 I rented that place for a week. I remember it cost me $1000.00. The place was big. I went there with my two boys now x-husband. It was a big thrill for me to stay there Ill never for. Hope its get rebuilt for future renters or star struck people like me, What a memory for me

Still standing 2017....its has top gun written all over it and its baracaded off😍😍....I drive past it everyday when I go to the beach

I stopped by 102 N Pacific St. just a couple days ago. Went to Oceanside for this purpose only. Too bad they painted it blue and fenced it. It was so small! It was really hard to sense the perspective from the movie. i wish a window was left open so we could see inside. My fav movie off all time, glad i could step into it for a moment.

I see this house everyday. I work half a mile away. House will be turned into an ice cream parlor very soon. 🙂
The house is scheduled to be moved and restored when the hotel project approved by the city and coastal commission begins. The final location will be one block North. There is no reason to restore it before it is moved. The move and restoration has been blessed by the San Diego preservation group SOHO. 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Top Gun movie and 124th year since it was built.

"Oceanside valley and San Diego in general during the early to mid 90's was a war zone." You tell some funny stories.
To any fans looking for it on google maps; until you zoom right in, it's actually named as 1st street, not Seagraze. It's not difficult to find though.

Go there every year planning on leaving there. My favorite place in the world.
My friend Matt and I used to go there to smoke and buy weed from a guy we went to Palomar College with! When I saw it in the movie I started laughing because we had real fun there with girls from the school! We didn't need a motorcycle or be an officer in the military! That was 1981-82.

Was that scene where they're sharing the wine filmed at the house or a studio? Also, I'm fairly certain that the kitchen where Cruise enters thru the side door (the door with a window on both sides) no longer exists. It was at the very back of the house @ 1:31, and the only interior part of the house used in the film. It looks to me like it may have been a separate apartment, added onto the main house at a later time. With no architectural value, it was probably slated for demolition in order to return the house to it's former glory. Later videos show this back section completely removed.

I work here so I've seen when they first moved it and when they put it back. It was pretty cool.
