Two to a room isn’t dangerous if the patients’ behavior isn’t dangerous. Most mentally ill are not dangerous. I was a week in a mental health ward to get my medication for depression evaluated and adjusted. My roommate had bipolar and was there after a relapse. Neither of us were dangerous. We wore regular clothing, made our own beds, picked up our own meals and were expected to attend various therapies every day. In the evening there were movies or you could just hang out. Lights out was at 9:30. Unless you felt physically sick, you were not allowed to spend the day in bed. There was another ward, locked, for sicker patients, but I never saw it. Probably, there were no roommates or perhaps there was a nurse on duty in each room, 24/7.
Psychiatric hospitals always have that creepy vibe. Alot of abuse happened in these places.
The building is in remarkably good condition for being closed for 30 years.
I'm shocked it's not vandalized and spray paint everywhere
They need to bring back asylums. The nyc subway system would be better.
