Govt Hikes Minimum Wages // Shakib Al Hasan Retires

On Thursday, the Central Government announced a hike in minimum wages for both agricultural and industrial workers. This decision, made ahead of the festive season, includes an increase in the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) to address the rising cost of living.
These new rates will come into effect starting October 1, 2024, with the previous revision taking place in April 2024. In Area “A,” unskilled workers in sectors such as construction, sweeping, and loading & unloading will now earn Rs 783 per day (equivalent to Rs 20,358 per month). For semi-skilled workers, the rate has been set at Rs 868 per day (Rs 22,568 per month), while skilled workers, clerical staff, and unarmed security personnel will earn Rs 954 per day (Rs 24,804 per month). Highly skilled workers and armed security personnel will receive Rs 1,035 per day (Rs 26,910 per month).
