Capuchin Monkey Bites Owner over Hair Color Change!

  • **CAUTION* lower your volume ASAP! This video was over two years ago. I’ve been very indecisive of posting this. Mainly because of the animal activists/peta along with people who disagree with owning a monkey. Let me just say this, all animals act up, in different ways. For example, dogs when they get their nails trimmed or filed. Those dogs totally freak out and try to bite. That’s just one of many examples of a pet being uncomfortable and acting out of its normal self when scared. This didn’t even scare me, I just knew something was wrong but proceeded in a bath which I shouldn’t have since he was frightening of me for some reason. Which I didn’t know why till a week later. I changed my hair again a year later and he acted the same but did not bite me. He knew better. However, I think it’s important to show the good and the bad to prevent the ownership of a monkey in the wrong hands of someone who won’t be able to handle them and just see the adorable things they do and just impulse buy. This will also help prevent more monkeys getting rehomed or put in a sanctuary because their owner had no idea they could act this way and can’t control them. This only happened because I changed my hair and he was petrified of me. It took a week for me to figure that out and he’s never nipped this way towards me since. And if he ever did, I know how to handle it and I am able to handle him regardless of a “freak out”. I’ve only been nipped once by him and it was this one time over 2 years ago. This isn’t to frighten anyone but to only educate everyone that these animals take tons of time and training and I got lucky. He is obedient to me and listens. All monkeys are not the same. And I promise you, EVERY monkey on TH-cam you like and follow have had their own times life this or even worse more than once with their owners. This is a fact. I will not respond to the hate I get for posting this so you’re wasting your time posting on it. Needless to say, it takes a very special and patient person to have a primate in their family and deal with daily challenges. Even over a simple hair color change. Watch how he acts a few days later once he is use to it. Complete difference. This reminds me of when I was little and my dad shaved his mustache off, I cried and wouldn’t go to him because I didn’t recognize him. It’s funny now but it sure wasn’t then.

Why would anyone want such an unpleasant creature? Can't really blame the monkey however. Its mind is broken from being kept in an unnatural environment away from a social group of its own kind.

Not everyone can provide a monkey a good life and people need to do their research and not just want a monkey because they are cute. It’s a life time commitment.

My parents were primate Vets and I have been a primate Vet for the past 32 years and I have NEVER seen a owned primate act this way. Maybe if they were just taken out of the wild and thrown in a home yes, but for a primate of have grown up with humans NO! This monkey is like a child that never had disciplined and I am sure it hasn't. Proof of that is in this video. A bleached bottled blond taking care of a monkey.. That's all the world needs.

It really goes to show that they are NOT as smart as people think! In fact, monkeys are pretty dumb if you think about it. Dogs are actually much more intelligent. When is the last time someone changed their hair and their dog didn’t know them? Monkey brains work more like human brains so with that in mind, think about how dumb they really are! I crack up when owners say their monkey is smart. They’re not smart. If their brain patterns are like ours, then why do they act so dumb? Because they are. No offense to anyone but facts are facts.

Not other countries. In some cases people were seriously injured and kids seriously injured. Do not compare them to dogs. Dogs are bred to be pets. Hundreds of years ago wild dogs were bred and bred until the prey drive is almost non existent. Yes some breeds still have that instinct but it is greatly depressed. Stephanie, Xander definitely was terrified. I'm glad you hung in there with him, having contol, showing dominance, not screaming at him but trying to reassure, trying to figure out the problem. What you said in your post, the entire story, was absolutely dead on, especially with the part of your father. I hope that everyone will learn from you and Xander. Change, something so simple to us was a total nightmare for him. He thought a total stranger had grabbed him up to do God knows what to him. His fight or flight instinct was perfectly natural. Yes, your right on being blessed to have such a good boy, I know you have spent many long days, nights and hours of training with Xander and believe me, it shows. You've done great and deserve to be told. Your awesome with Ohan a also. Thank you again for posting this. I truly hope that it helps someone and I hope that others understand that this sort of reaction isn't just from monkeys. Any living being, whether it's a primate, human, birds, cats, dogs, even a snake has the natural instinct of fight or flight when there is unexpected change especially. Kisses.

Why do people think that getting an animal meant for the wild is a fun nice thing to do, no, wild animals like monkeys are not meant to be a pet you can just keep around the house, they need open spaces, things to climb, being in the wild where they belong, not on leashes in diapers and held in a home where people expect them to be domesticated instantly, house pets and wild animals have much different brains

Animals see any change in your appearance, especially the hair, as it defines who you are as an individual. He didn't recognize you at all. These animals recognize each other by even subtle differences in hair color not just by the face like we do. Even we humans can be triggered by a change in color of the hair or lack thereof like many others here have pointed out. It can take days for them to adapt where we can do it in minutes. Good job on just being patient with him. When they see you doing your normal routine over time they adapt.

I am so glad you posted this video. I wish more monkey owners would do the same I understand why they don't but just like you said if they did there would be a lot less monkeys ending up in sanctuaries. I think it's terrible for a monkey to be taken from my home and put in a sanctuary I don't care what those people say I think they're hypocrites they still want monkeys but just under their conditions which to me are horrible that's nothing like being in the wild. And you look at monkeys in the wild they try to get as much comfort as they can. It would be like taking us the way we are now and trying to tell us to go live back in a cave as survivalists for the rest of our lives. Once they get the good life they know better they are aware that there is a much better life to be add then living in the trees having to fight for their food and worried about something eating them being cold in the rain. PETA carries things too far and so do a lot of other people because they don't do their research
