2022 Awards: Large-Scale Sustainability Impacts, Reducing Medical Waste

The Retina Center of Minnesota is working with manufacturers to improve how medications are delivered to retina clinics across the country. Two years ago, the center conducted an internal audit of their waste and found that boxes, cold packs, and Styrofoam shipping materials accounted for 83%. The Retina Center partnered with Pine Pharmaceuticals on a successful pilot study to reuse the Styrofoam coolers rather than dispose of them.
