I must have listened to this song 10000 times now... such a tune, her voice reminds me of janis joplin but in a punky kind of way, such a good combination.
@@subiesteve2578 That podcast is how I heard about her and this band... Yesterday. Been listening to it all. I am dumbfounded that I haven't heard of this band before. Feels like I'm in some kind of alternate reality.
The raw energy is so amazing, one of my all time favorite songs, this version specifically. It’s impossible to despise a person more than the monster who took her from us.
Every so often I pull up The Gits on YT to get my Mia fix. Saw them live in Seattle at Rkcndy in ‘92. Months later I heard about her death. For those of us who were there to see the before and after of the Seattle music scene, Mia’s death, coupled with the success of PJ, AIC, SG, etc. was really the death of the scene as we knew it.
I went to Antioch, i came in at 1990.. after Mia had left. I think I remember hearing about her murder at some point. But because the internet wasn't really full formed I didn't discover this song until years later, after my mother died. I would be going through some hard dark days and I would play this song repeatedly over and over and over in my car, singing out loud. It was like this mantra for me... helping me process the rage and emotions and frustration I felt. I will still do that. If I am having a bad day.. this song helps get me through... I wish I had gotten to know Mia or heard the Gits live.... RIP.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE IS MORE FOOTAGE TO THIS CONCERT? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT ALL. I LOVE MIA AND THE GITS..SHE WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL AND UNIQUE. IT'S THE URGENCY AND ENERGY THAT MIA SINGS WITH THAT GETS ME EVERY TIME. I NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO THIS LIVE VERSION OF SECOND SKIN AND OTHER GITS SONGS LIVE VERSIONS . I WOULD VENTURE TO SAY THAT SHE SOUNDED BETTER LIVE THAN IN THE STUDIO RECORDINGS. ; )
Second Skin The Gits I've thought about it a million times before it takes all my strength just to keep it calm i love to tell myself, just let it breath holding it inside will only help to keep me in each time i close my eyes i see another chain it's one i cant forget, something i cannot break out of i need a second skin, something to hold me up cant seem to get out of this hole ive dug my self right back in just to wake up tells me i must be brave it hiits me like a drug shot into my veins its not as delightful of a pain, immobolizing me almost makes me think im dead i need a second skin something to hold me tough cant do it on my own i want that chance to give every drop thats left in me i need a second skin something i cannot break out of i tell myself just let it breath its a calmness im always searching for but the dirt it gets so heavy it falls above my head seeping from under my feet it just keeps on getting deeper i need a second skin sopmething to hold me tough cant do it on my own sometimes i need just a little more help ive got that chance to give every drop thats left in me i need a second skin something i cannot break free of though no one ever said i'd be easy still ones left to deny the choice that comes between your willingness to survive though your knowing what you stand up against a world set to decieve you need a special strength i've got that second skin i've got that chance to give i've got the only way that i know how to live with it i need a second skin something to hold me tough i need a second skin, something i cannot break out of Songwriters: Andrew Kessler / John Moriarty / Matt Dresdner / Mia Zapata

@BitterAnger01 me too. You don't really see girl front woman who are a little rough around the edges. Im not saying it's bad to be pretty, but it just seems gone. I just hope other frontwoman will see this a make it part of their own style.
Such a unique voice taken too soon. Also a damn good band that was robbed of her way too soon. RIP Mia.
I agree

James Byron She grew up loving Janis Joplin which is why. The podcast Casefile gives a great bio of her life before moving to Seattle.

I'm sure Patty Smith also influenced her style too?

And he got away with it for 30 years and got to die without facing justice which makes it even worse,
@@badmonkey2222 you do know that the guy who killed Mia died in prison right? Covid killed him in 2021.
This voice… makes me happy and cry like a baby at the same time. Rest in Peace Mia.
