That is so awesome my brother-in-law Joe Morello, myself, Freddie Hanyon and Tom Buctha built Action Park East...a.k.a APE!!
My cousin Jojo designed all the artworks for the t-shirts I used to sell at the t-shirt booth. Those were some good times especially the bands over at the pavilion we used to have Friday nights for ATV's and go-karts Saturday was Speedway and Sunday was BMX bicycle racing.

Did you mean "Oswego" Guy? Love Speedway racing, it's sort of hypnotic when they get grooved in to their lines. And Speedway in America isn't as huge as it is in Europe - these guys aren't factory-paid, or riding for big bucks, they're riding because they love the sport. We have a track near where I live in Auburn, Cali.
    Thanks for sharing. Well done.

No man this was Action Park East in Greene, New York. There was another track about 30 miles or so West of Greene called Champion Speedway that was in Owego, New York.

Being a kid back in Poland I would watch Sam Ermolenko all the time.

@majoneski Speedway meetings in NY State happen every other week from late May to mid-September. There is a new additional track opening in NY state in 2012. There are also Speedway tracks in Indiana, 2 tracks in Ontario, Canada.

Yeah, I was going up beginning of June. This will be my first time home in 15 years. I just saw the schedule May 24 next June 27 or something like that. I have to move my trip up or back and pray to God for NO RAIN

This track in the 70's was the biggest most exciting racing on the East Coast. the best riders from california would come over for the U.S. Open and Find out the East Coast boy's could Ride.Hank Bassett Rowdy Rick Stone Storm'in Normen Robinson Rocket Rodney Payne to name a few don't get me wrong the Cali guy's would usually win it in the end but if memory serves me correctly we took a few from the Likes of Panhall Bast and the other top West Coast Riders. I will take great memory's to my grave from this Place. I miss the Rowdy one high and wide on the outside with front wheel flying like salute to hs fans.

kayleigh renda You must be related to my great friend Jim. We were there then and I miss it all. Norm Robinson was the only one in my time who won with the best from CA there.

This track looks like it's 200 meters long. How often do these events take place in US?

Some comments from a long time fan: first, where are the fans? second, nice to see Tuff McBride taking checkered flags still. I know there was nobody named Bassett, Robinson, Stone, Diem, Bast, etc but WTF did the fans all dress up as empty seats? Lastly and most importantly, thank you for posting, I felt 17 again for a while lol

Michael Langevin It look slike there may be no more meetings at Champion, or in NY anywhere unless sponsorship for events can be found. The current owner/promoter of Champion is ready to jack it all in. basically because the crowds are getting smaller. Some events in 2014 drew flies.

Jason said there was a track opening in Oct in Florida, which would be great if true, but I can't find any supporting documentation. I think you are right about the crowds. I was supposed to go Sunday but family troubles forced me to postpone. How is that: I was more than willing to drive from Boca Raton, FL to go to champion speedway for 3 hours yet the people up there won't go. My postponement is up in the air as far as when so right now I'm leaning towards the US open because with my luck, I'll drive up and the racing will get rained out but the open is 2 nights of racing with a 3rd day open in case of rain.
I have become facebook friends with most of the D1 riders and spoke to a few of them. Unfortunately, Jesse Diem needed financial help in order to race this past week and I paid his entry fees only to find out he got hurt (my luck). There is a nice group of young riders with talent to rebuild the sport but racing 5 times per year isn't going to cut it.

Hey man thanks for posting I don't know if you saw my other comment but myself, Joe Morello Tom Buctha & Freddy Hanyon built Action Park East. Some really good times and yes the names have changed there's no Rowdy Rick Stone, Stromin Norman Robinson, Hurricane Gank Bassey, Pistol Pete Atwater....etc.
