There are so many lackluster car reviewers out there - guys that pump out a video-a-day garbage that shows no attention to detail and quality. This review, like all your products, is so far beyond anything else out there. Please do not sacrifice your artistic and thoughtful quality for quantity. Your videos sre a breath of fresh air.
I agree with you. I feel like if I got in this car and drove it, I would pick up on the same things he did. Given that, I'd buy a Mazda 3, because I prefer something with sportier handling.
I love this review because you're the first to say it's a good buy. Most other car enthusiasts have just been really hard on Hyundai lately, especially the Elantra. I think they do still have that thought of old Hyundai/Kia still in the back of their mind. I own this car and I love it as a college student. It's fuel efficient, versatile, and very comfortable for the trip back home. Would i like something faster and sportier? Well hell yes, but for right now and the next 6+ years of my life, it's all about saving on gas, and having a well put-together car that's not a Toyota Corolla(lol). Great Video!
They're letting their old image rub off on them, which makes a negative review. This reviewer, however, does a proper review and sees every car as it is.
Peter Gilbert I will highly recommend it, it's affordable and really nice. I love the ride. If you have any questions follow me on Instagram @hyundaiclub_usa :)
I haven't gotten it yet. I will probably be buying it because I plan to have it till the day it dies hopefully being a long time. I am not looking for anything fast just something to get me from A-B and entertain me on the way there. It will give you the modern phone connecting via Android Auto/Apple Carplay at the lowest price, and best warranty being 10 year 100,000 mile..
This was the review that convinced me to buy my Hyundai elantra back in 2018. It's nice coming back to this video from time to time to remind myself of the reasons why I bought my elantra. Keep up the good work Mr. Goose.
I really never comment on videos, but I wanted to echo what everyone else is saying and thank you for these incredible reviews. The cinematography, humor, and detail is just what we need, as opposed to all the other reviews online. I look forward to your future reviews.
this is what i call thorough review... lifting the car up and going through how the car's construction is actually done. Well researched and thank you for your hard work.
Great review! My GF has one of these, an '18 she bought new last fall. It is a great little car! Not the type of car that appeals to me, but for something to get you from A to B or a commuter, it's terrific! As noted here the ride is surprisingly good, and it's peppy enough to keep up with traffic and not feel too slow. Honestly, I drove it and was impressed at how "quick" it felt. What also impressed me was that I got in it, and within about half a mile I was comfortable and didn't feel "weird". Her previous ride was a '14 Sonata, and the few times I drove it took some time to get used to and felt "weird". The Elantra has better seats, and while a tad narrower, is still very roomy up front. The rear has less legroom, and the trunk is smaller, since the Sonata is obviously a larger car. Also, the Value Edition is just that. For 21k-ish. she got heated (cloth) seas, power sunroof, sat radio, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic monitoring, android car play, proximity key for doors and trunk. I'm looking at Jeep Wranglers, and you have to spend like 50k to get some of that stuff.
Just want to say you do the best reviews on TH-cam. I just watched a 24 minute review on a boring ass hyundai, and you managed to make it interesting and informative. Keep up the good work.
An honest and fair review. You don't expect it to have the power and handling of a $50k sports car, unlike some other reviewers. You appreciate the simplicity of design because you understand that means lower long-term ownership costs, which is hugely important in an economy car. I think Hyundai did a fantastic job with the Elantra overall. It's an economy car that looks sexy, has good overall performance (within reasonable expectations) and provides good comfort, features and value for money. It's a hard package to beat.
Brutha Dnubian I've had mine a year and a half, just turned 24 000 miles. 0 problems just like a new car should be. I AM very happy with it. Very comfortable cruiser, and likes doing 80 85 on the freeway all day long. Great gas mileage too.
@@stevefranklin8052 It's ok, I test drove one. Probably about the same as a Jetta 1.4T, nowhere as good (in any measurable terms) than something like a Civic 1.5T. Got a good ride, not luxurious by any means and not particularly quiet but gets the job done.
Doug N everybody wants power and speed these days except for a few older people who know that MPI means reliability. Slower and thirstier in town but very good on the highway. In Romania we have some shitty old Romanian Cars with 1.4 MPI and 1.6 MPI and they run for ever. The rest of the car evaporates but the old Renault MPI engines keep running.
I own one 2017...it's crazy comfortable...if I want to drive sport, I will drive a sports car. I also own a 2009 Elantra which has a great build quality but does not illicit any wow factor at all inside or out...all I can say is the seats are super comfortable up front as well...you can really appreciate how far The Elantra has come with the new model over my old one. Excellent review...you set yourself apart by looking under the car
I just bought a new car last year and have no interest purchasing anything new soon but I somehow watch every single review you post, it's that entertaining
SURPRISED to see such an authentic review. Most reviewers seem to just skim through the surface stuff. look forward to more quality reviews from this reviewer!
I just test drove the 2018 Elantra SEL and I was really impressed overall. Not the noisy tin can I was expecting. Very refined. Smooth and quiet. Felt more like a budget luxury car to me. Lots of nice tech. Comfortable seat. Excellent interior quality. The styling exudes class. I liked it so much I bought it!
Another great and witty review goose. My daughter and I selected a used 2005 Elantra for her first car. It was like a plus size poor mans Corolla. The 2005 was competent and reliable, so she looked no further than Hyundai when the time came to replace it. The 2015 Elantra that she selected was a giant leap forward in all respects. After 24,000 miles, she is still very happy with it.
I’ve been In Hyundai’s since 2004. I currently have a 2014 now with 168k miles. All mine-I drive a lot for work. Never had any issues with any of the 3 I’ve owned.
Wow. I don't think I've ever seen such a positive review of a vehicle ever! Hyundai has really come a long way and are staying very competitive. I've never wanted a Hyundai so much. I'll have to wait for the sport review first.
got this car today , same blue color. got the 6 speed manual, made in south korea plant...nice car. very basic as far as options go. Kind of how I wanted it. it's really nice. I think the way the transmission shifts is a high point. hope to have it for a long time!
Love the comprehensive work. A lot of heart and details being put in the review and very unbiased. Most car reviewers should take heed. Moving on, Hyundai and Kia are great cars these day! Kudos to them making quality reliable cars.
So glad a channel like this exists. It should be standard practice in car reviews to look underneath every new car. Better still, I get a jaded technician's perspective on how serviceable a vehicle is.
The only informative reviewer it seems. Absolutely right about looking under the cars! We can't do this as average consumers, can't understand why other reviews don't talk about mechanicals more and are only concerned with driving feel. When cars such as these need reliability and mechanical soundness
The amount of information is as sufficient as ever, I like the distinguishing factors that you point out bout this not being a driver's car, looking forward for more of your future stuff, cheers!
My previous car broke down and we decided to visit some dealers. When we where showed this we where impressed by its decent inside space. My brother is 6 feet tall so we needed something with space and this was super comfortable to him. When I drive it I feel really relaxed too. The steering wheel is so light. It's a nice looking and comfortable car. Really happy with it so far. Though I digress on the black interior, it looks rater nice and its a lot easier to maintain.
I have been watching car reviews for this price point and there are a lot of videos out there, but this video quality is something else and packed with detail and useful content. it is not much ,but you sir earned my subscription with one video.
Great review. I just bought one for my wife. 2017 limited ultimate all options brand new (25 miles on it) off the literal showroom floor in Feb 2019. 21.5k plus FEES. She LOVES it and doesn't need or want a "sports car". I love the design aspects like port injection, easy maintenance, designed for efficiency. It's been 2 days of snow so we haven't even had a chance to set all the features up. I have a mint 92 Talon TSI fwd lightly built (320hp) and it also has torsion beam rear suspension. Since I'm not racing the thing at the track it's just really fun/quick toy for street use.
The most useful and professional video that I have ever seen about the new Elantra so far. I would love to see your video about the service to this car, especially transmission oil change. There are so many different opinions about the transmission oil, it confuses me. Thanks a lot for the great video, man!
I've watched all your reviews, long time fan. Great review again! You capture the things a buyer like myself would want to know and much more. I especially like the videos of cars you've actually owned. Usually a bit shorter, but more dense knowledge.
I drove across the country in my 2005 Elantra GT. I owned that car for about 10 years, before I bought my Ecoboost Mustang. I really liked that car, and I'm glad to see that the same characteristics about it which I enjoyed are still in the latest model.
Love the videos man. Your videos are very unique and tell you about every angle of the car. Very simple yet it provides so much information. Keep up the great work. Your reviews are my favorite to watch.
Even though I look a lot at compact SUV's these days, if I had to buy a car in a hurry, I'd buy this one. The price point, warranty, the standard equipment in the Canadian GL Auto version, and no gimmicks. "Buy it outright and keep it for a long time".
Great review! You think like a normal driving person, not someone who abuses cars he does not own, and who won't have to pay for future maintenance problems. But I was waiting for a comment on this vs. the Cruze Mr. Turbowski was driving.
I'm sold. I'm gonna get a used one from Carmax for like $12k. I need something for my new 2 1/2 hour daily commute and I think this will be the perfect cozy ride. And no CVT! Whoohoo!! Thank you!
I got this car in that exact same color and I absolutely love it.i have had many cars this car has more class and sophistication for that type of car. it is unsurpassable in that category
He is right about the difference between this Elantra and the previous generation Elantra. I had a 2012 Elantra for two years, and when going over certain railroad tracks at speed, the rear end felt like it was coming loose. I recently test drove a 2020 Elantra, drove it over the same set of tracks, and I did not get the same feeling in the newer one. I didn't expect it to be sporty since it's only a commuter car, but I am happy that Hyundai improved the suspension.
Peter Gilbert is it as reliable and fuel efficient as a civic? I don’t think so, maybe take out the reliable part, but not as fuel efficient. The civic uses a cvt which is good for fuel economy in this segment. It’s dumb to put an automatic in a compact segment.
@@iketanikoichiro3519 I know 2 people who owned the current generation Honda Civic. They had electrical problems at 30K miles & A/C failure at 40K miles. Not to mention others who's engines have seized up on them & had to be replaced. "Honda will recall certain 2016 Civic sedans because their 2.0-liter engines can seize. The recall affects over 42,000 cars in the U.S." "Excess fuel vapors in Honda’s 1.5-liter engine aren’t burning off and diluting the engine’s oil. This raises the oil level, triggers warning lights, creates a terrible smell, and brings into question the prospect of long-term damage caused by the oil’s inability to properly protect the engine." Civic is a piece of junk.
@@iketanikoichiro3519 Both 2.0L and 1.5L turbo Civic engines are having problems. Google it. Haven't heard of any engine issues with any of the Elantra's 3 engine choices. I average in the mid to high 40MPGs cruising at 70 in my 2018 Elantra.
@@iketanikoichiro3519I bought my 2017 Elantra in june of 2016. 4 years, 69.000 miles later, Absolutely 0 problems, 0 repairs, 0 issues of any kind. Comfortable, reliable, and I drive it everyday 80 85 mph, effortlessly. Very happy with it.
I swear these long videos are so much more entertaining than the ADD quick reviews that have been the trend. I hope you stay away from the quick reviews you tried a while back. I dont even care for hyundai but was more engaged than the last few videos ive seen from "other pros" about the focus st and gt350.
I enjoyed this review. Well done. Your videos are one of my favorites, along with Alex on Autos. Both of you are informative and entertaining, and (very important) believable.
Only a minute into the video the panel line up is poor @ 0:46. Now back to the video! Had to go mow the grass lol. Finished the video and well its good Hyundai has improved more of the issues. If the sport model has a decent suspension to start I am sure if you threw some coilovers on it and some sticky tires it will be a blast!
Subbed. You should have way more followers. Your style is perfectly paced and you took a very objective view at this car (so many others trash it out of bias). I'm really torn between Civic EX-T and Elantra Sport, leaning more to Sport since it's not CVT on a turbo (plus just better performance). Looking forward to your review on it!
I was checking these out. There are so few standard (or optional) features available with the manual transmission that it made me wonder why they even offered one with a manual at all. I thought, "They should call this the Welfare Edition", and started looking at Mazdas again (as you recommended). Glad to hear about the upcoming Elantra Sport. Sound like that could be the one I was hoping to see.
Wow, you hit the nail on the head with the biggest issues I have with my 2013 Elantra. The ride is so disappointing - I find it rough and loud inside. Also lack of power. I don't drive fast but I'd still like a bit of poke at times.
Honestly, I am convinced. I'm looking at a CPO car mainly for commuting and the occasional road trip. And this fits perfectly. It looks good and is comfortable. It is reliable and is simple to work with. As someone who likes to maintain and repair whatever I can before going to a mechanic, it basically fits almost all my needs. My only complaint might be maybe a little more sporty handling and a touch more power. But those are things I can live without. Thanks for the review.
I just came back from Hyundai and am highly impressed with the Elantra's interior and seats. Although it's not a midsize car, it didn't feel small or tight. And the front seats have a very long range of adjustment to where my legs were completely straight, and I'm 5'11. You're review was spot on. When my lease is up on my current car, I will test drive an Elantra and consider buying one with the intent on keeping it for no fewer than 10 years. Thanks for yet another great review.
It's not implausible that they had delays in development of the independent rear suspension, but what they told you makes good sense if you think in terms of prioritizing certain experiences for certain buyers. It _makes sense_ to have a torsion on the standard model and the independent on the sport model when you consider the extra expense of using just the independent on models where it's not needed. If anything, this kind of selective use allows them to use it where it matters without having to raise cost across the board. Plus it makes the Sport model all that more special in a sense that it's more than some big wheels and gawdy boi-racer body kit on top of the standard vehicle that has been the abysmal norm of nearly every "sport" model under roughly $30k released in America for decades at this point. I'm with you, this car is pretty alright. Hyundai has been making exceptional efforts and it shows more and more each year. I'm looking forward to you getting a hold of the sport model to see how well they've implemented speed and control into the small car.
Can't wait to see you review the sport model of this car. I ended up buying a '17 WRX (which by the way, you did a great review of) but did like the Elantra sport when I saw it at the New York auto show.
I was never a Hyundai fan and years ago, would never be caught in one. My uncle recently bought a newer Elantra and I love it! I find it nicer than my Civic! Yes, it can be a plastic land on the inside, but what car isn't nowadays that's somewhat affordable! I found it to be quite spacious, quiet, and very fuel efficient. I also love the newer design. I find it very appealing to my tastes. I'm now considering one when I decide to get rid of my Honda.
That was an interesting comment about Hyundai's lack of interest in providing updates to its infotainment system. That may be true, but not necessarily so. I bought a 2016 Kia Soul last fall, and less than a year later, they provided a free infotainment update (via SD card) that added Apple Carplay and Android Auto, plus a few other minor tweaks. That was totally unexpected and very much appreciated. Even without further updates, the basic Kia/Hyundai system is so good that it'll keep people like me (who don't need the latest gadgetry all the time) perfectly content for 8-10 years.
21:28 To be fair: How often are adult rear-seat passengers gonna get in and out of an Elantra? (That's what bigger models are for. When quality dominates quantity and one entry-exit is important enough to require it to be comfortable.)
Great review.. Love your channel. I was really hoping for an Accord sport with a manual review. No honda dealerships have them on the lot to drive. I bought a Camry SE. I'm liking it so far
Sorry don't mean to be negative but the camera was vibrating/ Bouncing a lot for what you defined as 'Extremely compliant' I'll take the K-900 ride over what appears to be this harsh riding vehicle ;) Enjoy watching your reviews and appreciate that you take the time to do them. Cheers!
Dude, love your reviews. Like Scott too. I use to work for Hyundai, there cars have really improved over the last 10+ years. I bought my wife a 2015 Elantra Limited. We have been very happy with it. Im going to look at the 2018 Veloster N later this year for myself. If they won’t give it to me for a super discount I may get the regular 1.6 turbo. Can you get a Veloster N to test? I have a company car so I’m in no big hurry to buy. Nice review, thanks.

It’s like I’m watching a movie! I just got my 2017 Elantra a week ago! I love it!!
this is one of the best reviews you done!😀 keep up the great work. You guys are the best when it comes to real life honest reviews. 👍👍
The undercar review is your pièce de résistance. The sarcastic Turbowski comments are priceless.
Love the videos man. Your videos are very unique and tell you about every angle of the car. Very simple yet it provides so much information. Keep up the great work. Your reviews are my favorite to watch.
I think your car reviews are best on the planet. Thanks a lot.
I didn't expect it to be sporty since it's only a commuter car, but I am happy that Hyundai improved the suspension.
what's the reliability? I remember the Sonata death traps a couple decades ago. Amazing how they turned it around.
Watching this in my new Elantra Value Edition and I wouldn't give it up for anything, especially the childish over priced gimmicky Civic.
The recall affects over 42,000 cars in the U.S."
"Excess fuel vapors in Honda’s 1.5-liter engine aren’t burning off and diluting the engine’s oil. This raises the oil level, triggers warning lights, creates a terrible smell, and brings into question the prospect of long-term damage caused by the oil’s inability to properly protect the engine."
Civic is a piece of junk.
@@iketanikoichiro3519 my buddy averages 43 mpg with his 6 speed mt Elantra and is having no issues. No oil dilution like the civics have
@@iketanikoichiro3519I bought my 2017 Elantra in june of 2016. 4 years, 69.000 miles later, Absolutely 0 problems, 0 repairs, 0 issues of any kind.
I love the honest, no bs review. Thank you.
I enjoyed this review. Well done. Your videos are one of my favorites, along with Alex on Autos. Both of you are informative and entertaining, and (very important) believable.
I had a difficult time deciding between this and a Mazda 3. In the end I choose the mazda 3 but it was a harder decision than I thought it be
sportsMike87 im now in your previous condition, hows your Mazda 3 bro?
Me too. I ended up buying the Hyundai
Around 18:45 - 19:52 ish there is some static sounds, again at 21:38 -21:57 might need to check it ! awesome review as always man.
Wow, love the shots dude. Great attention to detail! Subscribed, can't wait to see more content!
Excellent revue, Savagegeese you are good at what you do, keep up the good job.
Excellent review. Well researched and so calming to watch!
The freaking sonata is awesome too and looks great and sporty specially the electric blue with the looking grill.
You sound like you are in love with the Elantra
I was checking these out. There are so few standard (or optional) features available with the manual transmission that it made me wonder why they even offered one with a manual at all. I thought, "They should call this the Welfare Edition", and started looking at Mazdas again (as you recommended). Glad to hear about the upcoming Elantra Sport. Sound like that could be the one I was hoping to see.
Congrats on 100,000 subscribers!!!!!!
+Bobby Just hit 2 million.
Where's the Z06 review sir.
When someone drops it off to me or I buy one.
You do excellent reviews. Thanks!
Subscribed - Love the in the shoppe sections specifically
That was an interesting comment about Hyundai's lack of interest in providing updates to its infotainment system. That may be true, but not necessarily so. I bought a 2016 Kia Soul last fall, and less than a year later, they provided a free infotainment update (via SD card) that added Apple Carplay and Android Auto, plus a few other minor tweaks. That was totally unexpected and very much appreciated. Even without further updates, the basic Kia/Hyundai system is so good that it'll keep people like me (who don't need the latest gadgetry all the time) perfectly content for 8-10 years.
Marvellous review again as b4. ..don't stop n continue 2 b genuine n simple in ur work...
I've fell in love with this car when I saw it, considering selling my 2012 tucson to get one
thank you for this video just bought a 2017 elantra limited had 2014 toyota corolla so much more punch on elantra great car vs corolla
The shoppe always gets me excited, no matter what car. Those sexy suspension pan shots. I'm not even kidding.
thank you for the review. Can't wait to see elantra sport soon
Am I glad I came across your channel. Very informative review, relaxed and without any bullshit. Subcribed.
21:28 To be fair: How often are adult rear-seat passengers gonna get in and out of an Elantra? (That's what bigger models are for. When quality dominates quantity and one entry-exit is important enough to require it to be comfortable.)
Lots of detail in your review. Good info, great job.
I'm purchasing the 2018 Elantra Value Edition in two days, Friday... I think it's a very good vehicle, and you cannot beat the warranty or support.
Excellent review of all aspects of the car! Thank you!
Thanks for the review. I'm considering the sport. When you're going to review it? Like your reviews very much. New subscriber.
Great review.. Love your channel. I was really hoping for an Accord sport with a manual review. No honda dealerships have them on the lot to drive. I bought a Camry SE. I'm liking it so far
Honest, and thorough review. Love it. I also like Scott haha
when the sport version of this car comes out please review it. I really want to see how the new multi link suspension is on it
Hyundai is definitely coming up in the world.
i thought the internet was going to explode when you found those geese.....wish you would have played it up more
+chaoticdog85 Geese are elusive, need to drive and do a drive along video.
Cheers!
Hey bud, are you going to review the sport when it comes out.
Yes waiting for it.
Did u do a sport review yet?
@@sonnyblack5253 yeah he did.
Great video! Hope you do another on the 2018 Elantra to show the difference if any.
Make that the 2019.
Good review! Keep up the good work!
Excellent review. Quality impressions and Scott still needs a mic!
+Dario Molina He has Mic and leveled as well, still cant hear him?
savagegeese He has a soft voice compared to yours. Only in the car with him driving did he come through on par to your mic level. I'll just turn it up for the next video. Again excellent reviews. Hope to see you test the CT6,G90 soon.
