46 year old skater here to - on a regular basis - goes skateboarding w. the kids (although at a more cautions level, obviously). Make sure you get some protective socks (like the Footprint Knee High Painkiller Shin Socks) and I highly recommend getting some vans sk8 hi pro (w. comfort cushioning); you won't regret it. Also, get a good board - don't skimp out on the hardware.
Love how Jonny respects the OG skaters from every style but tries to hang. So MUCH respect for you, Jonny. Gunther is an OG and you had so much heart in this.
Im 33 now. When i was 14 o Met Günther Here in Berlin and we Made a Tour with the Freestyle sk8 Company team “Rolling Four”. I was so impresed by Günthers Skills . But at the Same Time i remember he Telling me how Good i was at This Time. It hurts to think about the awesome comunity we had Here in Berlín and how things changed. But After seeing This it motivates me to start again. Just like i admired the personality of Rodney as a kid i loved günthers personality and those to persons had a big influence an how i profiled my self at this time.
That was a blast! Günter and Rodney were my biggest inspirations in my Freestyle career and seeing Günter with my number 1 youtube skater is a blessing. Well done Gentlemen!
Saw Günther at a freestyle competition in Paderborn (Germany) in 2005 or 04 (he won before you wonder), very humble and down to earth guy who was kind enough to reply to an email of my young self asking for advice to become a pro freestyle skater. Much love to this guy!

wow - first time I saw Günter skate was in '89 in an Ultra Channel special on skateboarding ('the contest', it actually convinced me to buy a freestyle board as well), 32 years ahead, he still ripping. Thanks for setting up this video!

It's like watching a professional hockey player versus a professional ice skater. Obviously you are the hockey player and you're both skilled but Gunter is impossibly gracious and nimble, he's really worked at his craft for a long time

I have also learned a lot from the streestyle Books with Günter and Thilo from the 90‘s and I also saw him live performing on a Contest in Germay and it was sick!
I've always loved the creativity involved with skating and often think of how there are so many tricks out there just waiting to be found and named. Skating has evolved immensely since I started skating in the 90s! Much respect and that was honestly some impressive stuff guys!

Two legends in one video. Best idea ever. I actually bought Günthers "old" book one year ago because Jonny kept mentioning it a few times in his videos. And I honestly think I will never be able to land 95% of the tricks in that book. But I can vividly imagine young-Jonny (or young myself back then) being super stoked and wanting to learn every trick that is mentioned there.

great video. I met guenter in 2015, in Rio de janeiro, he came to brazil to compete in the big rio freestyle contest. in 2019 I had the pleasure of competing against him. he is a legend and still has good tricks at the age 57.

Being 57, Günter was surely part of the first wave of Skateboarders in Germany in the seventies. I remember doing pirouettes like that around 1980. It is interesting that younger generations never learned to use the kicktails in this way, to do waves to gain speed, do 180 and 360 degree turns, etc.
