Very good analysis. I’m from the West Indies and I too agree with everything said in this video. I was afraid that you weren’t going to cover the fact that players only want to play domestic tournaments for the big bucks, but you did an amazing job. Keep it up!

The West Indies team should be disbanded. Each nation should have its own team. What exists today is an unidentified scarecrow.

When I was a kid Clive Lloyd was captain of a champion WI team. They were a complete team.
    D. Haynes

    IVA. Richards
    C. Lloyd
    R. Richardson
    L. Gomes
    J.Dujon
    M. Marshall

The only better side Ive seen is the Australia side under Ricky Ponting. No one else has come close to being a complete team as those 2.

Players are not greedy. It's just that they will get paid very less in national duties as compared to private leagues because of which they'll not be able to live life.

Greed? What the fuck you are smoking man? The players have bills to pay and ofcourse will pick up the team that pays them the most. Atmost the players can play till 35 and therefore they have to earn more money. Even for 10 percent hike creatures like you will run away from the current company to another company.

My opinion, they are too influenced by American culture. Players just in it for money and they think wearing gold chains, looking like a rapper and having an arrogant attitude is the pinnacle of achievement. As soon as a guy calls himself “Universe Boss” his head isn’t in the game anymore and many fans no longer want to see him do well.

West indies cricket certainly has declined, main reasons is there's a lack of money circulation around, economy is poor
West indies were clearly the most brilliant team in the
    1980s
    Rivalling don bradmans teams
And chappells team as the greatest team of all time

They may have totally fallen away in Tests and ODIs, however i believe West Indies are the catalysts for T20s growth, 2 time World Champions and some of the greatest T20 players of our generation, known for big hitting and hard hitting bowling all rounders. Windies will always be my no.2 team, any format.

WI players no longer play county cricket which was the nursery of the WI players for decades. The last two batsmen who played county cricket were Shiv and Lara and both averaged 50. Now, no WI batsman averages even close to 40.
The downfall started long before the 1990s. The WI production line stopped in the early 1990s and never found quality replacements for two strong openers, a wicketkeeper/batsman or even three fast bowlers who could think how to get batsmen out. There has been failed leadership on and off the field for the past 30 years with successive unyielding insular boards who chose poor captains. Bad attitudes and contention wirh the board also permeated the team especially over the past 25 years. Just my two cents worth.

Sir Amborse once said that the best talent goes to US to play basketball. On top of that hefty cheques from franchise games caused the downfall of the international level cricket. Make no mistake, both men and women in WI are very talented. It's just when a proper management is not there, everything goes south

  • @aliasgarasgie

The decline began in the early 90s and snowballed into a full fledged crisis with the unprecedented test series loss at home from the Aussies in 1995. That was the watershed moment and a psychological blow from where things only went downhill for the once legendary Caribbeans. Exit of Ambrose and Walsh was the last nail in the coffin of Clive Lyod's legacy.

Their priorties to league's finished the cricket in WI and also the politics and poor development in the Carribean along with their poverty.
Yet in the 1960-1992, they dominated Cricket as a whole. Still 1993-2006, their cricket wasn't bad, they made finals here and there and snuck in with a champions trophy in 2004.
Also during the 1996-2001 period, the continuous change of captains made WI succumb.
Lucky for them, the 2010-2016, their T20 Prime was dangerous... they ended up winning 2 T20I WCs!
After 2016 triumph, most West Indies players focused on the franchise leagues.
I suggest you to cover why Cricket doesn't have as many countries as a Football World Cup. 😢

I love the westindies , even through the tough times , I have been watching them since 1998 , this video brings so much joy , you have done a wonderful tribute and explanation of the west indies era.Edited :
Westindies went to the Final and lost to South Africa. Kaliis got 5 wickets and Philo Wallace got a hundred. Slight correction.I agree with , the windies players donot have the professionalism or the mindset to finish of games , when teams play against they realize that the windies are not going to fight it to the end , we just have to change this in our game and I know we can do it , its not a question of talent or skill , we just dont have that professional (stone cold killer attitude ), everything is lackadaisical.

You can do a video about "The Downfall of Sri Lankan Cricket" as well. 1996 world champion, 2002 champions trophy co-champion, 2014 T20 world champion, 4 consecutive WC finalists. Now out of champions trophy, had to qualify for 2023 WC, and have to play with USA and Thailand to qualify to T20 WC
PS: You already have one 🥲

Just tell me how can a bowler like Sunil Narine play only 122 int. Games(T20IS+ODI+test)for the WI,not like he can't bat,we all have seen in IPL what he can do if given liberty.I feel theirs a lot of corruption there too...

.... we have also seen players perform well at the franchise and domestic levels but fail to transfer that performance level to international games. just remember that Narine had his issues concerning his bowling action. ven in the IPL his bowling action has been questioned twice - 2015 and 2020 - and not too long ago former NZ quick suggested that Narine is still occasionally using his illegal action . At international level the scrutiny of such things is greater and players simply cannot escape it. (P.S. a former co-worker of mine who played in Trinidad and Tobago's domestic league and played with Narine as far back as school level once told me that since back questions were raised about his action. )

Pollard is the best player the cricket game has ever seen, in my opinion.
He can bat, he can bowl, he can field, he can captain, he can win you matches out of no where, He is the god of T20 format.

There are two areas I think WI cricket team needs to improve on. What I find specifically is that West Indies cricket team are not able to produce world class bowlers like they did before. This is something the board needs to focus on. They also have many quality and hard hitting batsmen but all batters primarily focus on hitting big sixes which is the major problem. Not all balls can be hit for sixes. Batsmen need to know when to hit a four, six or take singles. This is how most WI batsmen are being tricked by opponents in international cricket. Forced to play big shots but ending up losing their wickets.

As a West Indian a big issue is that I don’t think cricket is any longer the first sport in the region.
Especially in Jamaica 🇯🇲 where football and track now seem more viable for young athletes.
It’s said cause when I was a child, cricket was our everything here in Jamaica but I feel the downfall of the West Indues after the 90s killed some of the love.

Viv might have been the greatest West Indian batsman of all time (either him, Hedley, Sobers or Lara), but no one argues he was the greatest of all time. Apart from a few fanatical Indian supporters everyone agrees that was Bradman.

    • @anteaterdoesmemes52
      @anteaterdoesmemes52 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I believe it would be tendulkar. Yes, Bradmans test average is incredible, but sachins overall style and exemplary performances in Odis as well make him a good “greatest batsman” candidate. Tbh tho I don’t think people who say Bradman is the greatest are wrong. It’s purely opinion based.

West Indies redevelopment there white ball cricket Nd we see the changes in there performance. They beat eng in odi and t 20 series in there home , win test match in Australia after 27 years and loss odi and t 20 series in Australia but learn so much in the series and believe me west indies play such a good cricket in the future specially in there home in t 20 world cup 2024
