This is really interesting. It helps explain why some of the early entrants to fields -- a new artistic movement, a new technology field, etc -- end up being so prominent, even if in some cases the work they produce doesn't feel exceptional compared to later entrants.
I got into complex networks as a grad student in applied math. We studied ant interaction networks in an ant colony reacting to alarm stimuli. Fascinating subject, especially temporal networks where links are dynamic in time. Big fan of his work.
"...The way complex system builds themselves follows the same universal architecture..." This has been a gut feeling since way back; I think experiencing living makes you realize this without all the science.
I talked to ChatGPT about consciousness arising from many singular interactions cooperatively i.e. a complex system. To visualise this is interesting but i wonder where the value lies.
From previous advances in the field of networks, we could potentially see some improvements in efficiency and understanding of network behaviour. That being said, my knowledge of networks in mathematics is capped at a mere graduate level
Why does he redefine friends at 2:43? He just said it was about how many people Someone knows by their first name, not friends. I know the names of some famous people, yet they are clearly not my friends, they don’t even know me.
It seems like he's using "knows on a first name basis" in the colloquial sense of a two-way relationship where you each call each other by the first name, rather than simply knowing someone's first name. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/on%20a%20first-name%20basis
Consciousness is an emergent property of biological entities of all types. The level of demonstrated consciousness is dependent on the level of reasoning intelligence of the biology in question. Many sub-human clusters of cells, plant and animal, have a much higher level of consciousness than we attribute to them. Free Will absolutely exists and YOU are the Captain of your own ship of destiny and you pick the directions, speed and ports. Your own reality IS what your mind and senses perceive it to be and it is just as real and valid as anyone else's perceptions of it.
This is an interesting video, but citing a mammade network is a ridiculous effort at proving one of the main opening statements (and thumbnail/title) which is that the world is math, which runs counter to the dominant idea that math only described the world around us, like physics, both of which are evolving endeavors who have faults.
Interesting point. Looking back we were thinking of "the world" in the sense of human society (e.g. when people speculate about "who runs the world," they aren't thinking of the natural world). Of course, math undergirds the natural and physical world as well, but these are different kinds of systems. It would be interesting to check whether there are other physical systems that behave in the same way--e.g. when galaxies form, does stellar density reflect a power law distribution because new stars have non-random gravitational relationships with existing ones?
Humans are a part of nature and these networks pop up everywhere in the world. The internet is pertinent here cause it very much affects us. There are biological networks all over the place
What is this study for ??? How this knowledge is going to help our main problems …? Drugs , alcohol , disrespectful youngs and many many many other problems. What is this knowledge for? Totally useless in my opinion
Much of practically applied science and engineering uses previous theoretical research that was done simply out of curiosity. Not everything is about making money.
You….you think those are humanity’s “main problems?” What a Protestant, small minded thing to think; I’m sorry for saying that, but there are viewpoints, or limitations in thought, that are in fact holding back progress for our society, and your conclusion is among them. I’m certain some form of those “issues” go back into antiquity; it may even be argued that they are actually part of what makes us us. Food and water production and distribution, viruses, population density and thresholds, poverty, and many more, should be and are much higher up the list of concerns than “those disrespectful, pot smoking kids.” Again, sorry, but the fact you chose to publicly list those and decry these mathematical models because they don’t “solve” said problems is frankly depressing. We are so weighed down by people with simple, Iron Age views of society, and that only lends to the problems we actually have. I’m not saying we’d be better off without people who subscribe to those schools of thought, in fact we’d be worse, everyone has worth to this world, but the institutions that have influenced your thought process to the point that you believe what you believe-those are what need to go.

THATS MY PROFESSOR
❤ oh how lucky you are
@WhyNot I took his class
What university are you in? :)
you’re welcome my disciple
Mine too. We talk allll the tiimmee!! 🦭🌈
1000 friends??? This stat needs to be updated for the 21st century. I have 1 friend.
Well articulated.
I just finished intro to Quantum computing and this was very informative.

nice way to explain network science..
It’s useful information 👍👍👍
fascinating - are "networks" another way of describing self-regulating systems including growth
I love this stuff!!!!

Can anyone recommend programs for these types of visualisations
Can use graph theory... Like in python, using networkx lib, and matplotlib, etc for visualization,,, in social network analysis...
@@hyleenpognaire8134 awesome, thanks
Most will be done with the help of gephi I think
Albert, randomness absolutely exists, like picking one of 52 cards from a shuffled deck that has been spread out on a table.

I was about to give the same explanation
cool

Glad you liked it!

Some intellectual poignantly put it that mathematics exist there where mathematicians, etc. create it.
All I.S. a matter of THOUGHT
💜💜💜
Think about the flower petals they are symmetry.. Universe is symmetry and maths
👏👏👏😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍

u need to understands, know every things also giving 1 answer to, 1 restart to, which is self destruction fenomena....
Please lern proper English. It’s incoherent and grammatically wrong. I can’t figure out what you mean. What is a self-destructive phenomenon?
?
Albert, math doesn't control anything, it merely is a bad description of it!
how much of this is porn? 🤨
The building of the Devil

Actually it is vital to studying the spread of viruses, such as the coronavirus
