In this EPIC diy diary, I thrift-flip a large paper cabinet into a beautiful fantasy inspired piece for my office space. While I set out to make something more modern, my nerdy inside guided my creativity to turn this into something far more magical and far more fantasy inspired - I am obsessed with it.

This may be an odd comment but it occurred to me today that it's actually a lovely thing the way certain DIY decisions of Dani's have been more controversial lately. Like I would never cover up the natural wood with a pink like that, but she loves it ☺️ I think it really shows how her work is evolving to be deeply authentic to her and she is finding that TH-cam vs real life balance that's so critical for sustainable creativity. So congratulations Dani on further evolving your fabulous voice and style 😄 this corner of the internet is lucky to have you 🎉

I yeeped at the 50’s modern direction the star took it, but keeping the hand carved scroll work made it feel sort of craftsman style and the curved legs sort of gave it an Art Deco accent. But yeah the star motif dominated. Love!

It def looks like it would be in an office in Harry Potter. My niece is about to go to Harry Potter camp. She's 11 and just read all the books this year for the first time and ended up with the most reading points at her school. Next Lord of the Rings.

Normally, I would bristle at covering beautiful wood, and there is some fun texture going on on the front of that thing, but that STAR IS BOMB! And it feels appropriate to the era of the piece, so good work!! 🤩❤💕

I just love the 1920’s Art Deco nod with this perfectly cut star. It’s giving me Jetson’s vibes at the risk of dating myself. Just delightful. Very Hollywood glam, meets adolescent magician for sure.

Hm, I think this is the first project I'm not feeling. I love the stars and the dry brushing on the details, but I feel like the whole piece was flattened by the black stain and the interior color. I applaud you for taking chances and trying different approaches, though!
Agreed. Not everything needs to be matte black. I think it relies too heavily on magic and also skews a bit young.

The cabinet is wonderful. I love that one of the drawers is labeled "wands". Like she has so many she needs a drawer for them.
If you had set out to make a fantasy cupboard, you might never have chosen that dreamy cranberry for the interior! This project worked out just the way it was supposed to. Love it all!
LOVE THIS! I wish you would have shown more of the fix on the front - it came out BEAUTIFULLY- the fixing of things that don't go perfectly is my favorite part of your videos. It happens to us all and that is where the tru magic lies. You are so very talented!
I think I would have done two things differently. I would have inset the metal detail so it was level with the wood, and made the inside a darker shade of red. But those changes are because that is what I would adore in my home. It's in your home and it's completely gorgeous as is, and its going to suit your office so much! I can't wait to see that diy! And no. I will never unsubscribe because of your dancing or puns - its what keeps me going.
RADICALLY COOL!! A few years ago I found a curbside free cabinet. Took it home and redid the whole thing. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do, sooooo, I just decided it would come to me in a dream, and it did. Because that's how I roll :) Did a lot of dry brushing with a multitude of colors, added gold leaf, cool glass knobs, aaaaannnnnddd, Bob's you uncle! It's one of my favorite pieces. Thank you Danie for always staying you and sharing your passion with us :) Peace out!

The cabinet is what is known as a tallboy, it will have been a gentleman's cupboard in a bedroom, the drawers will have been for gloves and other accessories, judging by the style and type of wood this will probably have been produced in the 40s. Love what you did with it.
This may be the best thrift flip ever! The only thing I would have done differently is left and polished the wood inside. But I am not as magical as you, so I totally get your choice!

You are a gifted creator and artist. Love the detail in the cabinet wood and how you antiqued it to bring it out. Love the starburst accent. Love the raspberry interior and love that the cabinet has so many different size shelves/drawers! Not a fan at all of glamorizing the occult so would probably not have chosen black. Hell is real and it is eternal. Bring people to the light and especially children.

I LOVE the outside of it. I'm not a huge fan of the pink at all - I probably would've left it wood, but if I'd painted it, that kind of peacock-tinted navy colour would've been stunning in my opinion. But since it's a piece for you, what matters is that it's a colour that you're happy with.

The raspberry paint...did you realize while/after transforming the cabinet that it is similar to the flowers on the mural? There is something timeless about black and pinks of any spectrum. Just starting with ArtDeco, MCM, Modernism of the 80s to the huge floral wallpapers today. I think you may have been drawn to this color longer than you realized 😊
I love it, I really feel the extra touch, with the splatters on the doors, finish it perfectly and make it truly magical. Also it helps us other diyers to show how to cope when something doesn't go to plan and how to fix and improve things xxx

I would find fancier and longer art deco inspired handles. Your door with metal star can take the sizing up.The raspberry color inside is fabulous!
