    I bred EBJD from 2009 - 2012.
    In this video I go over what this cichlid actually is and then some tips on how to raise and even breed them.

    I’ve had 4 juveniles for about a year now, and they’ve been fed freeze dried bloodworms all the time with no issues. Beautiful fish, but ive definitely seen the struggles others have had with them.

    The EBJD's are literally impossible to keep. He's absolutely right on all points. I don't think anyone has figured out how to 'make them'' being a man made hybrid. I've tried many times getting them from different reputable sources but no matter how perfect your water, tank/diet is for them they basically die off. I had one make it for about a year and half up to 4 inches and he started rotting away. It was devastating because he was a happy, well cared for fish and fought like a champ to stay alive. Very sad. Thanks for sharing this for others

    I subscribed to your channel and this video was very educational on EBJD's and I was wondering if it's worth buying adults over juvenile ones?

    I have a 70 litre, would that be able to hold a young 1.5 inch ebjd and when it gets larger it could go into my 140 litre

    Is it possible for a male ebjd to mate/pair off with a female flowerhorn? and would any live fry come of it? I have a pair in my tank that have recently paired off and seem to be displaying breeding behavior.

    Thank you for this video. I have a 4" EBJD that my 4 year old daughter LOVES, and is in the process of going completely blind... obvious cataracts in both eyes and misses the food he goes for 90% of the time... I suspect he will have to be put down in the near future. Can you elaborate on the "eye problems" you mentioned, and more importantly can you recommend a reputable source where the chance of genetic problems would be reduced... or is it just a gamble.

      +Josh Kaptur seems like your dealing with the eye problems. One or both start going bad for what ever reason. I dont currently know of anyone that has fixed these issues. they seem a little hardier now but not much.

    My Jack is pretty big and this guy isn't doin well. He's awful pale on one side and seems like he can't get enough air....
    According to the original owners he is 7 Y/O.. Do you have any tips? The tank is a 45 long and the ph is 6-7...

    Hey dude, thanks for the awesome video. I'm currently raising a pair of EBJDs and so far managed to raise them up to to 2" (they were 1/4" when I bought them). My question is: how can I manage algae in their tank? I'm not a big fan of plecos and even though I use the algicide from Tetra every now and then, I really don't want to use any chemicals due to the fish's delicate nature (the algae is mostly due to sunlight and I can't really block it off). Will they tolerate nerites or freshwater clams or is there any other solution to the problem?

    What is a good source of blue gene Dempsey?

  • @NPORT1981

    I was really considering breeding them as I have a 2" EBJD and a 1"BGJD because they are so expensive, but this video might have turned me off on trying. I know I would need to find much more stock but I have only bread Flowerhorns, Oscars and a few other CA cichlids so taking on such a sensitive fish might be too much to ask. In fact, I think I am dealing with bloat on my EBJD right now as he is in a hospital tank by himself currently.
    Anyway, thanks for the video.

    Hey buddy if you’re still around I have a question for you so I have a blue Texan and a female red Devil that paired up and she laid eggs but they weren’t fertilized does that mean my blue Texan is not fertile

    • @yourfishkeeperfriend8884
      @yourfishkeeperfriend8884  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Often times it takes many attempts for the male to get it right. Its also probably he didn't even try to fertilize.

      Tom Scialpi I feed mine pellets and flake, he likes the pellets best

  • @P7OUR
    @P7OUR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had mine since half an inch fed on nothing but meal worms, occasionally blood worms, flakes and hikari pellets and is doing fine. It's currently 5 inches and is just as aggressive if not more then my normal jds. All I did was change 50 percent of his water everyday untill it reached 4 inches (for me this was the fish out the danger zone) and was wormed every so often. I think it all depends on the fish/genetics and how it was bred ect. Really not a hard fish to look after if you get the right one it's just a gamble unfortunately
