@@carolinpurayidom4570 What's a little sad about this is that you can see whenever there was a critical comment, you can see on her face how deeply it affected her. We know that about six or 7 years from when this video was made Brit will have a full on public meltdown, and it largely had to do with how she thought the public viewed her. Celebs really shouldn't listen to fan opinions if they want to stay sane.

The pants were similar to how Genies dress and the top come on those children see a bunch of them when they go to the beach and really this performance was so much more about the choreography and the music than it was about her outfit. I think it allowed her to dance easier with that outfit. She was fire that night.

Britney had a lot of Christian fans back then and was on this pedestal to “wait until marriage” and when she wasn’t following up to it, it backfired. But she was young and her parents clearly weren’t watching over her. If only everyone knew what the girls be wearing in another 20 years nobody would have given Britney crap. Britney wasn’t always innocent, but that’s ok bc nobody is but she definitely didn’t deserve a lot of the hate she got, but she was the worlds Prom Queen back in the day, she was one of the prettiest girls from the late 90’s and early 00’s… many people were threatened by her. But it’s a shame what has become of her. All those dreams and hard work just to end up alone.

I know the top was kinda tiny but even the top didn't show that much cleavage or anything. I could *maybe* understand if they were talking about the 2001 performance of I'm a Slave 4U, but the 2000 sparkly outfit? It seems like an overreaction even for back then. And the whole "what if my 12 year old wants to wear it?" oh idk, maybe tell them Britney isn't 12 here and it's appropriate for *her* age but not your child's? Be a parent instead of wanting to police Britney's life and putting the responsibility on her.

Exactly! People are still arguing this now when it comes to artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. Like Britney said, she’s not their mom. It’s the parents’ job to parent how they see fit. Britney, or any other female artist, isn’t responsible for the choices kids make. It’s a pointless statement anyway. I have never once heard a young child say “Mommy, I want to wear super revealing clothing with only sparkly beads covering me because that’s what she’s wearing!” No. They will say “Mommy, look how pretty her outfit is. I want something with sparkles on it!” If they’re not that young then they’re usually in the age range where they’re teenagers or about to become teenagers and at that age it doesn’t matter what a famous singer wears when performing. They dress themselves how they want to, whether that’s based off what is supposedly trendy according to social media, their own unique style, or from the choices of clothes they see when shopping. They’re not going to go around wearing nude colored spandex with diamonds covering certain parts or leotards and no shorts or pants. Those are what performers wear. It’s not like Britney was strolling around wearing it to the supermarket, lol.

This is why some of them now think they have 59 genders, want to take hormones and why some of them go on to have terrible relationships bc they do what they saw with their parents at home.

I don’t think it’s about wearing a certain outfit as much as absorbing the message that sexy is in and wholesome is not. So as the girls grow to preteens and teens their impression is I have to present myself in this sexy way or people won’t like me. I can’t just get the boy by being my fun goofy self. I have to get him to think I’m sexy by looking or acting a certain way because that’s what people like. It’s not just Britney Spears. Pop culture is sending that message to young girls all the time.
But I believe that’s why Britney caught the flack she did.

I have so many things to say about this. 1. Why are they filming her watching people say these kinds of things? She seemed hurt by some of the people that were saying rude things. I just don't get the point. 2. I hate when people would say that she wasn't a role model, etc. I remember that she has said that she's not multiple times, because she really isn't. She is a performer and that was an outfit for a show. I grew up with Britney since I was 5 and never once did I take anything that she did as Bible (1. because my parents would beat my behind and 2. because I understood that we are not the same. I was a kid and she was older than me and could do different things) and 3. f them kids and their opinions. I'm sure that most people who were critiquing her were not as saintly as they made themselves out to be. I loved when she got sassy on them because honestly... who cares about what they had to say. She's Britney Spears lmao

    • @daviewz9335

      1. This was a reaction video before reaction videos was a thing.
      2. Role Model was a term associated with being what we call now to be an influencer. It was thrown around loosely. Britney was never an actual role model to kids nor ever wanted to be. If kids wanted to dress like her, they couldn’t because of their parents and school dress codes anyway. If they did dress like Britney, that’s their parents fault for buying clothes like that for them to wear.
      3. I think the sassy comments were rude given that they were directed to them, when their comments were directed at their interviewers not Britney herself. Some of them would’ve NEVER said the things they said to Britney herself.

I remember my mom always saying she was such a good dancer and performer the only thing that ever bothered me that my mom would say is that Britney couldn’t sing but my mom did enjoy her performances and never talked down about how she dressed. My mom wore cute clothes herself. Shorts and crop tops in the 90s. I had just turned 10 when she performed at the 2000 VMA - And I'd like to add I turned out fine HAHAHAH!! Kids don't copy everything that their idols do. (Yes I got my belly pieced a few years later and wore a few cutesy crop tops but didn't mean I was going to copy all her outfits at a young age and strut around the streets. Too young to even think in-depth that much.

For the person who said as a parent you should be able to tell your kids no that’s not okay to wear that, but also support her in what she did wear 👏👏👏🙌. I’m sure these people back then didn’t realize it wasn’t her choice on what to wear on stage or how her performances like many other artists were already constructed without them having any say in the matter, but props to Britney for keeping it cute while she arching peoples reactions. At the end of the day she was doing what she was paid to do in order to live out her dream of being a performer! Love her to pieces!!

it’s always female celebrities who are pressured into becoming role models for kids, never the male ones. imo PARENTS should be the role models for their children

People just hate to see beautiful women flaunt their beauty and own their segggsssuality. Britney was ahead of her time.
