Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and reaction! Thank goodness for the 60-40 split this year ;) This, to me, is the best entry from Norway in years. Just pure epic!! Captivating performance.
Note that the «juries» were not Norwegian music professionals, but random groups from ten different other countries. This was not how it was done before 2016; a Norwegian jury in addition to public vote. To let non-Norwegians pick the Norwegian representative - well. Let’s just say I am VERY happy Gåte won!
this is an interesting factor we might pick up in a future video. pros and cons to both i suspect, using an international jury may help choose something people may vote for, however you want to also select what represents your culture the best. norway had so many good options available!
the reason we do that is because we have to make sure we send a song that can both be appreciated by the jury and the people. that being said: the international jury NRK chose is not the similar group of people that EBU chose, so its not really a good indicator at all. from 1st to 17th with the jury in 2023 is a big difference. Poor Alessandra
All Eurovision "juries" are infested with a cancer blend of "fashion experts", "Choreography experts" and other random SHIT that has NOTHING to do with MUSIC.
@@niallpoints lets just hope the jurors like Norway XD, they did use auto tune for the norwegian finals (mildly supposedly), but Gåte have bben active for quite some time so i would guess they are capable live in sweden. fingers crossed
Gåte is one of Norways biggest live-bands, and i have been a fan of this group for 20 years. I am so happy they won, and I really hope they will go to Malmø.
Gåte is just amazing, fantastic power end energy. The voice from Mother Earth! ❤️ Beautiful Gunhild - this is what Eurovision (and the world) needs right now! 12 points 🥇
The lyrics are inspired by a poem from the viking age, about a person that's cursed to be a wolf, but they can become human again if they drink their brothers' blood. They kill their pregnant mother, and therby drink their brothers' blood, and become human again. The intro and refrain is a "kulokk" from the 1800s, which was used to call catlle in for feeding time at the farms in upper Telemark (a county in Norway).
Nøkkelharper is the instrument. The song is about nørron mytologi. The chorus is kulnokk language...call animals ( cows ...) It was a completely amazing performance.
This was an interesting debate regarding the jury system versus televote. I am Norwegian, and would have been very disappointed if foreign juries had taken away our chance to send Gåte to Eurovision. I like that there are foreign juries, but it is absolutely right that they should have less influence than the Norwegian people. This is not about me not liking Keiino's contributions, but they have already won an audience in Europe, which you so rightly talk about. Europe deserves to get to know Gåte. Their participation will also be able to attract groups other than those who are already part of the Eurovision circus.
thank you for watching! 💜 i think with either Gåte or KEiiNO you'd have a great representative but very glad we're getting to see something different from Norway, and i'm sure KEiiNO will remain great ambassadors for you!
Gåte is everything Eurovision should be about: a great local artist with a great song and a unique style being presented for a global audience. Great representative, easily the best pick you could have made.
Thanks for a great reaction and interresting chat. I hope Gåte will do well. I'm waiting for the songs from Malta, Spain, Belgium and our dear neighbour Sweeden, as they usually bring great stuff. I guess Britain wont send Sam Ryder again? Sigh... one might hope...
thank you so much for watching! i think i hate her happens you've got an entry you can be proud of! our reactions to malta and spain are coming very soon and we're also eagerly awaiting Belgium too (our resident Belgian Tomas may explode with excitement). no sam ryder from us in the UK however Olly Alexander is a huge talent!
I doubt they will keep the video footage in at Eurovision, or if they do, they'd probably have to do it on stage with LEDs, which may be a bad choice (plus NRK usually doesn't spend money on big LEDs haha)
2:42 "You're not allowed to play live, so you might as well do some tricks." I agree with the sentiment, but the fun thing is that this band does those tricks when playing live too. :D
The classic televote v/s jury debate is back! 😂 I remember that on the tail of this debate last May, when Norway raised their concerns, and EBU promised that there would be a revision of the jury system this January. It's just a bit disappointing that I cannot see anything coming from it (if it happened at all). So that's that. I'm afraid my trust in EBU's jury system is hurt as a result, and I might not be the only one.
as far as I'm aware it was discussed but I don't think change had enough support. Perhaps if some National Finals continue to implement it we may see some movement.
@@niallpoints Ahh, that would be a great excuse, waiting for the NFs. There are almost as many national jury systems as many countries. Next time EBU will just appoint someone in private talks to be the winner, as that's quite common practice in NFs 😂
I don't understand who participate in the juries. Their favourite were a cheap and trashy eurodance rip-off with no artistic creativity (sorry KEiiNO, this was the weakest song I've heard from you). Gåte are real musicians that creates original and unique music.

wow! thank you for that insight, i new it was from a medieval text but didn't know the story!

I always do my best to make my friends to join me in watching ESC every year. I bribe them with alcohol and force them to vote.
