great job on the videos. I wish there were more players online who play the game right. there's nothing more annoying than people swiping at the ball constantly, or running up the court trying to fast break on every play. when played by 2 sim players the game looks beautiful.

When I press up on the D-Pad, instead of my team running p&r plays, it turns into an isolation. I've made sure to set up all the proper settings.

I like to study the playbooks too to see which teams have pick and roll plays I like. so far, I love the clippers, Cleveland and lakers. the playbook I stick with is the bucks tho. soon as I discovered their double screen play (fist 91 side I believe ) I was hooked. great video as always

Hey Sam I like using the Thunder and want to use Get Shooters Open strat. Which playbook and what setting like Motion cuts, Freelance, or Space the floor tactic would be best? I would like to get Morrow and Durant involved for my 3pt shooting and Westbrook for PNR. So which playbook would have great 3pt plays and good PNR for Westbrook. Sorry if Im asking too much thanks

I spent HOURS wondering why when I clicked smart play nothing was happening. I finally figured out why, lol.. you MUST have a player set on priority to be P&R Roll man!! I was using Heat I had Bosh set to post low/high and Whiteside set to post low.. because I don't often call plays for a roll man like that so i didn't want it cluttering up menu but if u do that they will NOT run any plays at all with smart plays! just stand there. Make sure u got someone set to be the roll man!
Expect a lot of Cavs and Warriors online! People are still playing like its 2K15 so experimenting with your defensive tips gets me a lot of stops and points off turnovers. On offense I'm continuing to try different offensive sets and the Bucks playbook. Currently playing with the Hawks and running offensive thru Korver.
Hey Sam, how do you access the offensive strategy menu? Is the only way left on the d-pad and R1? Also, would you recommend this offense against a player who is also playing on the same screen as you? Example: a friend who comes over to play 2k with you.

You do not have to. But if you take off all of the plays except Harden's then you will get nothing but Harden plays. If that's what you want then you can take it all off :)

sam, i think maybe you can shed some light on this. i've had this question since 2k15. I always thought that POE on offense refer play calling only. As in this video, when you call a 2k smart play with the up command on the d-pad, it runs the best play based on your POE settings, in this case being the "run through james harden" at "shoot at will" tempo. I was under the impression that offensive sets/freelance offense refer to the action and spacing when NOT CALLING PLAYS, so freelance offensive sets (triangle, 3 out 2 in, swing, pace etc) and POE are not intertwined. Am i wrong?
Now not on can be 100% sure how these thing interact since 2k never released info on it. To me I believe if you run your offensive sets with FREELANCE action then your overall offensive POE will affect how your AI teammates behave in freelance when you are attacking without plays. I have seen Danny green cut in more in freelance when I set the POE to get to the basket. Vice versa when I set it to get shooters open Green will rarely move from the corner
I noticed you mentioned the Bucks Playbook in another video...Seems strange that Houston wouldn't already have a nice playbook for this. Or even Golden State or Clippers. I rarely watch the Bucks and say..."Man, love these sets they're running!" Ha...makes me wonder if the dev's are actually putting playbooks together for certain teams, or just randomly doing it.

sometimes I'm not able to run the smart 2k smart play when I press up on the d pad...this is even after I pass half court. the guys just stand around. what am I doing wrong? thanks
I am assuming that the next level is assigning on particular play group for your stars and then changing the coaching strategies accordingly? Would I be right?
Correct ! Is important to use this template for multiple players and different sets on the go. Heck you can switch entire playbook a too all in game :)
u can run freelance also by catching the ball at one of the wings, if u have it set to freelance the players will start running actions. u don't have to call a play, and each time u pass the ball, if u pause for a second, it will trigger more freelance action. u have to set it to freelance action, if u pick space the floor or motion cuts it will not work. Da Czar has a few videos up where he explains how to trigger it.
+Greg Smith Yes i have seen those but they are too slow and lack a purpose for me. Smart play ensures i can trigger it immediately and by setting it to Harden PnR only i know exactly what i am getting. Freelance is nice but it doesn't have a primary attack intention. I prefer to use the space of the freelance and then chain my own plays into it, this way i know it begins and ends with Harden penetration; then the rest can come as they may. I can't stand waiting lol

Did you try all teams, and playbooks ? I'm playin on HOF, hard on the 2K16, i'm winnin until half time for ten points but then, cpu change his strategy and can anticipate my offense, i play with clippers, i work on offense strategy to find open shoot in hot zone, play pick and roll, pass and go, but then cpu can anticipate. I think it's very hard to drive with crossovers or special size up ( thinking of crawford or paul ), all the time we are needin a block to win the defender . What do you think ?

All good man.. You're doing a hell of a job.. Just remember that are lots of noobs like myself picking up this game for the first time and while your guides are helpful for sure I think they are a little too complicated for absolute beginners sometimes... Would be sweet if you could put a video together just going over the basics of controls and how to play for first timers to get us comfortable enough to start going through your videos... I have started at #1 and made it to #11 I have rewatched several quite a few time trying to pick up what your leading us too... But this game is massive and sometimes I feel your videos are aimed at people who have played at least a year or 2 already. Thanks though... I'll keep plugging away

There's no assign plays on myTeam is a 2k oversight, however you can still run this without it. Won't be as good but still very effective :) 2k left it out on myTeam :(
I sent a video of the issue to the devs to show examples of this. I have had this happen over and over. playing online is useless unless, the only time it works at all is when u play extreme Sim players. they play like real NBA teams.
It depends on how you want to use him. If you want him in the low post then set "post low or post high" plays with him. If you want him to be the guy who sets the picks for you in screen and roll plays set " pick and roll MAN" (not p&r handler) for him. I've been running plays on 2k since NBA 2K11. Any questions about plays I can help Ya brother.

My passing preset at control options is set to direction passing. So I feather the left stick to get the pass just right, it takes practice yes BUT setting pre set to directional is first step to success haha
I Definitely Like The The Bucks Playbook Smart play Its Awesome. I think My Biggest Problem is Getting space probably dribbling for space ...to get around the defender is my issue

Im using the bucks offense also, check up the Quick 2 high play, 1st option 3pt, 2nd option after the screen the screener will roll to the rim with a 2 man game, the 3rd option is pass to the C who will be at the top if no roll, manual cut the PG, since the offense is spread out noone will protect the rim, the Pg/Sg will have a easy dunk.

I am assuming that the next level is assigning on particular play group for your stars and then changing the coaching strategies accordingly? Would I be right?
Correct ! Is important to use this template for multiple players and different sets on the go. Heck you can switch entire playbook a too all in game :)

u can run freelance also by catching the ball at one of the wings, if u have it set to freelance the players will start running actions. u don't have to call a play, and each time u pass the ball, if u pause for a second, it will trigger more freelance action. u have to set it to freelance action, if u pick space the floor or motion cuts it will not work. Da Czar has a few videos up where he explains how to trigger it.
+Greg Smith Yes i have seen those but they are too slow and lack a purpose for me. Smart play ensures i can trigger it immediately and by setting it to Harden PnR only i know exactly what i am getting. Freelance is nice but it doesn't have a primary attack intention. I prefer to use the space of the freelance and then chain my own plays into it, this way i know it begins and ends with Harden penetration; then the rest can come as they may. I can't stand waiting lol

Did you try all teams, and playbooks ? I'm playin on HOF, hard on the 2K16, i'm winnin until half time for ten points but then, cpu change his strategy and can anticipate my offense, i play with clippers, i work on offense strategy to find open shoot in hot zone, play pick and roll, pass and go, but then cpu can anticipate. I think it's very hard to drive with crossovers or special size up ( thinking of crawford or paul ), all the time we are needin a block to win the defender . What do you think ?

I believe this freelance is for wing superstars so it won't work with AD :(

Just remember that are lots of noobs like myself picking up this game for the first time and while your guides are helpful for sure I think they are a little too complicated for absolute beginners sometimes... Would be sweet if you could put a video together just going over the basics of controls and how to play for first timers to get us comfortable enough to start going through your videos...
I have started at #1 and made it to #11 I have rewatched several quite a few time trying to pick up what your leading us too... But this game is massive and sometimes I feel your videos are aimed at people who have played at least a year or 2 already.

There's no assign plays on myTeam is a 2k oversight, however you can still run this without it. Won't be as good but still very effective :) 2k left it out on myTeam :(

I sent a video of the issue to the devs to show examples of this. I have had this happen over and over. playing online is useless unless, the only time it works at all is when u play extreme Sim players. they play like real NBA teams.

It depends on how you want to use him. If you want him in the low post then set "post low or post high" plays with him. If you want him to be the guy who sets the picks for you in screen and roll plays set " pick and roll MAN" (not p&r handler) for him. I've been running plays on 2k since NBA 2K11. Any questions about plays I can help Ya brother.

Sam, how do you pass in traffic so good without using icon passing?
My passing preset at control options is set to direction passing. So I feather the left stick to get the pass just right, it takes practice yes BUT setting pre set to directional is first step to success haha
I Definitely Like The The Bucks Playbook Smart play Its Awesome. I think My Biggest Problem is Getting space probably dribbling for space ...to get around the defender is my issue

Im using the bucks offense also, check up the Quick 2 high play, 1st option 3pt, 2nd option after the screen the screener will roll to the rim with a 2 man game, the 3rd option is pass to the C who will be at the top if no roll, manual cut the PG, since the offense is spread out noone will protect the rim, the Pg/Sg will have a easy dunk.
Have you found a play quite effective as horns fist 5 dive ? . Seen it on you're page last year
