Damn, that's a ton of Busch beer in that first storage locker!!
My suggestion at this point would be to feed it to the fishes!!
Absolutely hilarious!!
Nice video thanks
Buschhhhhhhhhhh!
Do you guys ever thought of using back country backpack meals, or freeze dried meals? What is the purpose of the cut pool noodles on the yardarm?
You mentioned pool noodles, and I thought, wow, these guys know how to have fun. Haha.
You know if you just dump that Bush Beer overboard at the bow while underway, it will clean the hull just fine.
That was a joke. Don't actually do that. I care about the environment. In the US, we just don't know if that stuff is biodegradable or not.
Oh, on other thing, the pool noodles on the spreaders not only looks elegant as hell, it's a simple and brilliant idea to prevent chafe on a long downhill run. I am going to steal that for our offshore passage this fall.
12:57 Had to go search what "Sod's Law" was. While Murphy's law says that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong (eventually), Sod's law requires that it always goes wrong with the worst possible outcome. An interesting and much darker idea than Murphy's law.
I'll do what I can to spread it around Hawaii.
Forgot about all the Busch beer. LOL
i want you to show libby doing things more. shes awesome and is a skilled sailor.
I am glad to see that mine isn't the only power winch that complains so loudly when hauling someone (me) up the mast.
This is one of my favorite sailing channels because of you folks, and because of the thoughtful sailing tips and tricks. Hope you’re safe and will continue sharing the adventure.
Good luck with your month at sea!
Love watching you guys live. You are making the most of those most important years. You are cute to watch as you work together so well. You remind me of how Scott and I were about 20 years ago. Don’t ever stop, because restarting is a bitch or not possible. Best of luck..
Ha, Busch beer. I didn’t think people actually drank Busch beer. I hope it was on sale.
Great Information!
Bush beer is better than no beer!
👍👍⛵🌹⛵👍👍
Great take on provisioning! I also liked the idea for provisioning for each leg of the crossing.
Great to see the technical stuff again. Feels like it's been a while ;)
great video, good luck
Hey guys....I CAN'T WAIT for your upcoming season in the Med. Keep up the good work.
Have a safe trip!
What were the pool noodles for taped to the mast
Hey guys, In the food storage areas would it be to your advantage to put all the cans TP and etc. in a large 6mil plastic trash bag to keep out water and critters. Thats a wrap.. More singing mate..
This was a very interesting and informative episode! And thanks again to Nick, I was able to witness that neat Terysa laugh and smile once again.....plus one cannot beat an Aussie woman's accent.
Nick, let us know where to send you some proper beer. That Busch crap has got to go. Cheers, Ted and Annette
Nick, why do you guys tape something around the spreaders?
Kind regards, Peter
Great photos, interesting insight into preparation for departure. Thank you
I’ve just noticed an unusual similarity in Terysa top and Nick’s head gear from Charleston a few episodes ago. 2 for 1 sale at Lulu lemon a few month’ ago?....or. Sk in the UK.
Wow...didn't expect it to be so shallow there!
I forgot about the beer, you should have just drank it! I am looking forward to the sail, I know that you already are in Europe but the adventures you had getting there will be exciting to watch.
they need more beer.... ;)
This beer they have is not good.
Great video guys, side note... great looking couple 👍
This is actually the first vid that I have seen of you guys scraping the hull. The Wynns seem to do it more often with a lot more growth. Is there some kind of coating that shit won't attach to or is this just a normal part of boating?
Another great video with lots of useful tips. When you get across I hope you'll do a follow-up on the provisions you used up and wanted more, vs. those that had left overs. I'm interested in how Therysa"s "just wing it" approach worked which is more my style anyway.
Nice one guys. I am also a fan of Monel wire but some use cable ties on shackles which I'm not a fan of but interested if anyone has and what they thought. When you said baggy wrinkle I thought you were actually going to be making some the old fashioned way but TBH those pool thingys are a great idea. Glad you had a safe passage. Onwards to the Med. Andy UK
I'll take a beer. Lol.
Quick tip which you may or may not already know but cleaning your hull can be made easier by taking a suction cup with you similar to the ones used for holding glass panels or removing floor panels. You attach the suction cup to the hull and it allows you to have something to hold onto while scrubbing the hull with your free hand. If you want to get fancy you can attach a line around your waist through the handle of the cup and that way you have two free hands but that is considered showing off by some people.
I noticed you didn't mention spare parts and tools in your check list, did you take extra spare parts and tools for your passage ??
Cheers and safe travels.....
Another approach is to put a line under the hull from port to starboard. This is easier to deal with and you just have someone in deck shift it along the hull as you finish the section you can reach..
I didn't understand what you were doing with the pool noodles up the mast. Looks like you were securing lines but I couldn't tell exactly which or to what benefit.
+B Serna sorry we didn’t make that clear- they’re being used as baggywrinkles to prevent chaffe of our main when running downwind.
Great information!
Good Job! well done setting up the boat and telling us about it. Good tip on the Monel wire Nick.
Great vid.
Cheers
great video have a safe sale crossing the Atlantic
as allway guys good info , love the show, thanks for sharing
This is a great one as well. Thank you. Sk in the UK.
Informative (with great tips) and entertaining . Thanks for another great video.
How many cans of Busch did it take to cross the Atlantic?
Very informative! Cheers guys!
why the pool noodles on the spreaders?
Thoroughly enjoyable vid ❤
“Got any Busch beer in there babe??” Busch is a fine beer if I do say so myself
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose I’ll take it!!! 😊😊
Great video! Someday I need to make a playlist with all the best "How to" videos for cruising. I think more than one of your videos will make the list.
Btw, I didn't even know they made monel wire. I was a machinist in the Navy and worked on Submarines. We used to use a lot of monel and inconel.
I always enjoy watching your videos.
When provisioning do you shop to meals or just wing it with basics and design meals around what you have at that moment at sea?
Dentist: "Yeah just eat the icing with a spoon" Nods.
ha ha classic!
he's not alone ;-)
Many thanks.
he can labels also are a perfect nesting area for bugs to lay eggs.
Another great video, with loads of great tips and great photography. was the antifoul copper based? lot of growth!
Love your video! Can’t get enough of you guys. Thanks for all the tips and of course all the fun!
Great video. The little tips y'all give are Excellent! Excellent how y'all keep the clubbing of words in, makes it real vs production
mousing the shackle :) my fave job
mamil wire?
Cracking video once again! Daft question.. I see you sitting on towels on top of the leather? sofa. Do you find the leather too hot n sticky most of the time. What other alternatives have you tried?
Neutral coloured throws... very posh :) cheers
Thanks for sharing 😎 !
I am wondering if baggywrinkle is a nautical term or a British term?
fair winds my friends light and love bri
Some captions or overdubs about what was happening up the mast would have been nice.
Where are you at now? I missed something I thought you were in the Bahamas
Couldn’t hear so well...did Nick seriously say he thinks he’s got Marmite in his eye? I know we love it here in South Africa but gee whizz, to get it in your eye?! LOL
Always a pleasure watching your videos.
Love your preparations, very useful tips! In regards to Southerly swing keels, is there a chance the keel could break free from the mechanism that retracts the keel back into the hull? I was told that on some boats that use a cable system to retract the keel, the cable could break while the keel was retracted which could swing forward and put a hole in the boat - sinking in minutes. Is it the same for Southerly's? Thanks! 😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What is the "Red Box" device on the shelf behind her at 11:30 ?
How many crew do you pick up and how much experience do you look for?
Do you know anyone (you included) that have a pre-done list of all these things...?
Is it possible to use a suction cup, to hold on to the hull??
Make it easier to clean?
Stupid question maybe. But I live up in winter wonderland, and we take the boat up every winter and that is ok.
Ohh. Maybe it works. In my head it dose ;-)
'Super Moist' - sounds great :-)
Ok I guess you guy's can go! The Caribbean been cover enough for now. So how about you show us what's happening in the Mediterranean! Let's go chop chop hoists the sails and pull up the anchor!! ,,,,,,/),,,,,,
❤️
Great post, looking forward to your adventure. I use micro cord (think the mail) when back packing, 100 lb test, 1.18mm strong as heck, small easy to store. Of the 8-10 sailing post(s) I watch, NOBODY uses a dehydrator, do they take up too much space or electricity?
Equilibrate?
Thunder only scares me because it almost always comes with lightning. And being anywhere near a jillion volts with no place to hide, now THAT damn well should scare anyone. If you've ever heard your antenna literally sizzling from static discharge as your hairs start to lift from the same thing....good reason to be scared of what might come next.
Well, you can avoid Lake Maricaibo and Florida, and still enjoy many other places.(g)
just keep saying busch beer all the time, no matter what the question is or the conversation is about just say busch beer all the time every time the camera is on hahahahahaha
Hey guys as someone who regularly works at height you should really tether your tools. I
Nick, you lucky bugger. A good women and a good boat. I envy you. She is a keeper and I am referring to Teresa(hope I spelled it right). Have a safe passage, if your not already gone. lol I can't keep up with sequencing of the channel.
Hey Nick. Glad to hear your both alive and well across the pond. I really enjoy your channel and content. I too, one day, wish to be at sea. the education part is underway. cheers
Nick, you've had a chest/belly haircut or did the lightning strike fraz you?
Enjoy your vid this week.Rumour has it that you're now on this side of the pond, around Portugal?
Must be that you're going to ' do the med'.If so,how about calling in at Cartagena.Buy you a beer and some good tapas in a historic and great Spanish port city.
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose Keep you to that.Whilst you're sailing into my part of the world, have a look at Almeria city,Cabo de Gata parque natural(coastal preservation area) and onwards up to the Murcian coast,Aguilas,Mazarron and Cartagena. You won't be disappointed.I'm describing what remains of real Spain....hardly a tourist in sight, unless of course you want to get your rocks off in Benidorm jajajaja
would be nice if yo guys put a smile on your face once in awhile,,,,
Hi Nick sorry to ask what's is the pool noodles on the mast for? Great video again love watching your channel cheers guys
Sailing downwind with main chafing at spreaders?
Sooooo, Nick- smooth smooth like a mink? Inquiring minds want to know, where WAS that going?
LOL!
Ha Ha thought so. Love you guys and thanks for sharing the adventure. Keep them coming.
I'd kill for that 'to do' list at the start of this video. In fact, and I've said it before, Nick.....please can I have your life?
Nick, you should have a look at Inox MX2 battery conditioner. I've been using for years and it does work... www.inoxmx.com/inox/mx2-battery-conditioner/
:)
I would have loved to have seen Terysa wearing a sexy little yellow Hard Hat in this video. I never see them in boat videos with people up the mast, and I admit that my winching crew didn't have them either, last year. But...
Anyway, Nick and Terysa, as always, loved your video.
Great stuff, reminds me of an article I was reading the other day about the most common repairs at sea during the ARC: www.yachtingworld.com/sailing-across-atlantic/what-are-the-most-common-repairs-at-sea-for-yachts-sailing-across-the-atlantic-arc-survey-results-tell-all-109688
What's the story with the pool noodles on the leading edges of the spreaders? Increasing resistance to make you go slower? Or is it to protect the genny during tacks?
Never mind, I see the question was asked and answered a couple of hours ago. And it wasn't the leading edges but the trailing ones.
It's okay Jim, Daz just can't help himself. He probably gets this kind of treatment all day long 'coz he still lives in his parents' basement and at 30 years of age hasn't worked a day in his life. It's sad really and he doesn't know any better.
My tip *Gaffer Tape* it covers a multitude of sins. If Jesus had any he would still be alive today
As always a good informative video.
