- At 172 years, the America's Cup is the oldest sporting trophy in international sport and the latest Cup cycle is well underway. This is the first in a regular series of features about the road to the America's Cup that we will run through to the Cup match itself in October 2024 in Barcelona.
The series, which was commissioned by Yanmar ( / @yanmarmarine ) will take a deep dive into the Cup and look at everything from how the event works, to the complexity and outstanding performance of the current generation of boats as well as why this event is so special. We will look at how the Cup has influenced the sport and why it has proved to be such an obsession for those that have tried to win the richest prize in sailing.
Plus, we will be explaining what each of the steps along the way means and talking to each of the teams about their campaigns.
We start with the opening event of the 37th America's Cup cycle at the first of two preliminary regattas in Vilanova, Spain.
Welcome to the road to the 37th America's Cup.
Road to 37th America's Cup is produced in association with Yanmar who commissioned this series.

Congratulations Planetsails and Mathew for being commissioned to do the next 12 months of Amerca's Cup.
Looking forward to your coverage.
I love the idea of the series, but the videos will need to be much more timely in order to stay relevant. The race being reported on here was 3 months ago!
I sort of agree but America's Cup is very far between competitions in each cycle. Maybe aim for them to be out as a recap atleast before the next competition.
Good stuff Matt, as usual, look forward to hearing more over the next 11 months.
Glad you got this commission Mat. I will watch every one.
Very pleased to see you've been picked to do this. Have always enjoyed your reportage.
Fabulous. Fabulous effort, my most important subscription.
Excellent news. Well done. :)
As an American I’m actually quite surprised we are like really good at sailing. When I think sailing I think England.
Shared.
Will Britania be coming in last as usual ? They need to refresh the crew, as they are not up to the task
You put me to sleep in 37 seconds. Nice job.
Frankly all this is getting way too complicated! I suspect many will get lost.
let's go Z land let's go
Who has the sack to do 90km/hr?!! Mistakes at that speed would rip the boat apart. They are breaking apart at 30knt crash downs
Those are not sailboats. They are hydrofoils. They need to get back to regular boats…
Sorry how are prelim CAC40 relevant or revealing for AC75? Silly things run on autopilot, why have 4 deadweight beanbags in it?
It could have been revealing current state for the ladies and jr. cup. but than they shoulld have let actual ladies and jrs sail, right?
I am looking fwd to AC75 but only to the main event. All the marketing hoohah, AC40 and LEQ12 is just commercial nonsense.
Meh.
Bring back the 12 meter.
Only if you want to see boats slower than even modern cruisers. The 12M's are lovely, but they're no longer up-to-date technology.
@@chocoball604 slower is fine with me. I miss the tactical races of yore. Now it's an engineering race.
@@chocoball604 And?
Sorry. the 12m won't be back in the AC.. unless you become a billionaire, win the AC with the current class, then you get to decide
@@roderick167 That's what should happen, ironically. This thing can be renamed the Oceania Cup and migrate down its current path. To end up on ice and skates, driven by wire, on a single tack forever.
We call that "up to date technology".
Not really " A trophy EVERYONE wants to win" - in reality - this is billionaires competing who has longer ...you know what. Actually - that is how it started 150 years ago. After all - admit it. Was it for "everyone" - there would be not 5 teams - but 150 teams. So...
These boats look so funny. Don’t think I can get interested in this crap.
Thanks for reviewing the races. They are an exciting buildup to the main event. It is timely to remember that the only person who did not respect the cup was Benjamin Nathan, a MAORI, who damaged the cup in 1997. SHAME !
utter gayness
Takes one to know one ... Sweetie !!
