- NEW BORN - MUSE (ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY XX REMIXX) - BASS COVER
To mark the remixed and re-released versions of #Muse’s #OriginOfSymmetry, here’s the new versions of #NewBorn. Playing this hurts the fingers, mad octave stuff going on… -As usual with my Muse tones, I split the signal 3 ways, running a clean tone, Clean tone shaped with the #MXR M81 preamp, a green muff #GrandTarkin curtsey of @cogeffects, and the #Animated #Animato clone by @crowellaeffects - mixed together with a @EHX Trii Parallel mixer and controlled with the @official_line6 #HXStomp. Playing with my #StatusGraphite #chriswolstenholme signature S2

Could you make a video going through your pedalboard and muse tones? Also what were your Eq settings on the knobs of the bass?
Hello mate - it's far too complicated, it'd take me a week to make a video about my board! It's been 10 years of trial and error. In very simple terms; I have a EHX Tri Parallel Mixer, Channel A: MXR M81 Preamp with a mid scoop at 800hz. Channel B: Cog Effect Grand Tarkin (Green Muff clone) set to a fairly buzzsaw/synth like tone (you're hearing this and the clean tone only in the verse). Channel C: The Crowella Effect Animated pedal (Animato clone), fully wet, tone at 2'o'clock to give a little 'slap', distortion almost all the way across (I'm kicking this on and off for the choruses -- -you can hear the tone becomes more overdrive like). I run compression before and after to flatten everything out across the three channels. Chris famously runs 5 amps live these days - Clean, Distortion (animato), Muff fuzz, DI and a high octave channel. I run three channels into 2 amps to try and emulate that formula. The EQ on the bass is quite powerful as it's 18volts. It also has a sweepable Mid scoop, but I think I had the bass and mid treble knobs set to around 75%, and the sweepable mid set at around 4khz at 25% (so cutting basically). I'm using both pickups, but note that I'm picking over the top of the bridge pickup (as Chris does) - that does a HUGE amount for the sound. The trick though, is to give your distortions an almost 'slap' like tone (Chris recorded this song on a Bass), whilst keeping your clean bass tone super sub like and free of fret/picking noise - almost like a DI (you can hear in the intro), and combined together. Give this article a read: www.shure.com/en-GB/performance-production/louder/musings-of-a-bass-tech (new strings on every bass, every night, changed after 2 or 3 songs!! Also important for tone).
Good luck!
@@lefteyeviewed oh wow that is very complicated. Thank you so much for the intro, that sounds like an amazing board
Hi mate! Very good! Do you prefer the bass or the drum?
I like bass because I can play pretty much anywhere - drum kits are big and loud!! But drums have a special place because I find them the most therapeutic and it comes more naturally to me.
