Hello!!! You are 5 steps ahead of me! I have a very similar story. Live in L.A. We just rented a gem a block from the beach, next door to La Comer shopping center. Must go to La Ramona, Armida, the owner girl boss, is fun. Look forward to running into you. I have a great group of fellow USA women living in San Jose, a couple trying to figure out where they love it more:La Paz, Todo Santos, Cabo San Lucas, San Jose, in between????
    Personally, I love San Jose.
    Cheers

Ugh don't even get me started on how terrible AirBnb has become. Sorry I'm not paying double what a nice hotel costs in many cases with literally 50% taxes and fees (which aren't shown until you actually go to book).

My wife and I have traveled to Los Cabos for 20 years and moved down 3 years ago. Check out Casa Don Rodrigo and try the fettuccine made with their farm made cheese and how they prepare it at your table. There are 3 farm to table restaurants. Our favorite is Las Tamarindos, which is more rustic and less commercial. If you’re lucky one of the staff will walk you through their garden and select items for a specialty drink. Salude!

Spent a week last summer at the Westin Los Cabos--FABULOUS!! 2-bedroom timeshare with more square footage than my own townhome in CA! Took a day trip to San Jose del Cabo, a very sweet town, and had a great lunch at Jazmine's right in the center. Colorful Mexican washbowl and toiletbowl in this large restaurant (what a thing to remember!). Recognized your town square right away with its beautiful (closed) church and the colorful shops/galleries along the narrow streets. I realize our experience wasn't at all about finding reasonable permanent housing but kudos to you for your unexpected choice and sense of adventure. Liked San Jose del Cabo more than Cabo; we slipped in and out during a COVID lull and cherish our "find." We heartily recommend the area! Best wishes as an Expat!

I have always just been so scared, paranoid, freaked out and any other name you can come up of getting kidnapped or killed by the cartels. Im white and my teen daughter is beautiful...

    Major question:
My husband works doing IT for a city in the US. He says in his defense, if we moved to mexico, the whole family would rely on me. What if the internet didn't work, or they don't like me living abroad, how can we have a backup plan to sustain our lives? Also, what could I do for work that would help support us? And of course can I homeschool there? I want to try something else and I know we could do it. In fact it might be our only chance to try before our parents need us full time. Thoughts?

When the pandemic hit in March last year, Luke couldn’t go back to work (he’s a youth soccer coach and none of that is allowed to go back until a state is in “green”), so there was no longer anything tying us to Mexico City. There's also a bike trail that connects into to there and all over even the beach. I live in Chamizal the rents here are a little cheaper and it's also very walkable.

Congratulations on moving to San Jose del Cabo! You will love the area, we have had a home down in Cabo San Lucas for over 20 years. you have only just begun to explore, there are great places to visit and eat especially once you get to the back roads of both towns, and you will find great beaches less crowded than Medando beach in San lucas -- check out Playa de Chilano, one of our favorite. "Don't worry about seat belts in Mexico. We'll just sit on top of each other"
I ran red the one street light out of Cabo and get pulled over. He was not interested in my proof of license, ins, & registration or seat belts per person. He talked so fast I didn't understand and one guy from the back says, "I know Spanish, he wants money" We all instantly dive into our pockets and come up coins and lint. We were scared. He takes what we have and--I understood this sentence--:This is not even enough to buy me a good dinner" and then, "Just get out of here you pathetic Americans"
Whew!! We're clear and out and that was one great party!!!!!!

Two restaurants away from the beach that I liked : HANGMAN for the atmosphere and live music
TAQUERIA ROSSY for excellent food at low, low prices
Also you've got to check out the excellent Saturday Food Market ( if it's still happening in these days of Covid)

Buses available from Cabo San Lucas? Distance? Could you go into CSL in the evening say for dinner and back by bus? Perhaps taxis & cost? My husbands plays tennis, any courts or clubs open to short term members? We've always stayed in Loreto Bay in winter, not this year, but would like to find somewhere quiet and more affordable. Thanks to anyone that cares to respond.

Very cool. Been going there for over a decade. Nice to see the hotel you stayed in finally open. I've been watching them try to renovate that place for years. Go check out the estuary on your way down to the beach. You'll likely see some interesting wildlife there. Also, take the bus over to the marina in San Jose. There are a few nice places to eat and things to see. Lastly, try to get a ride out to the East Cape. You'll find miles of nearly uninhabited pristine beaches. Enjoy!

I find that FB marketplace has great listings, especially the all-Spanish ads with the price listed in pesos. I also saw many places with signs out whilst walking and exploring to get a feel of different neighbourhoods: if you strike a conversation with the owner of the corner panaderia and mention you’re looking, she might very well know neighbours interested in renting - I know of a few ladies who did just that when they spotted a place which had been empty for a while and asked around. Someone died and nobody thought about renting out the house, they were happy to find someone. The other house was sitting empty while it was on sale, she lived there renting for half a year and ended up buying it at a very good price because she got along so well with her neighbours and the daughter of the owners. I can’t recommend learning Spanish enough, it really opens doors! 🤗🇲🇽
