I love Iranians, but in my personal opinion it's their ungratefulness that killed that beautiful free Iran. One group of their people demanded the end of monarchy and Islamists wanted to return Iran back to it's medieval form and they succeeded. Reza Shah learned the process through his only foreign visit to Turkey. In Turkey, Kamal Ataturk made it MANDATORY to remove the veil. He also advised Reza Shah to "de-rope" the Mullahs as well, which he had done so by force in Turkey! Reza Shah was a devout Moslem, albeit a moderate one; he did not heed Ataturk's advice, and ultimately the budding democracy in my country paid the price. If you would go to Wikipedia and search under Khomeini's trip to Turkey, you would notice that he had to remove his turban because the Turkish customs authorities told him it was against the law in Turkey to wear Islamic clerical attire.
