I listen because you two are truly passionate about mini painting, you look at all sorts of aspects of mini painting, and you two are such good friends and play off each other so well.
I dont really have the financial ability to support ya'll. I also don't really have many friends as in to mini painting as I am. I really appreciate you two, always keeping up the encouragement. Some day, I will join the patreon or support you here on youtube. Please keep up the content.
Jon talking about his upbringing into the miniature world via the smaller scale action figures really hits hard for me since I'm the exact same way. I love the smaller scale figures so much! Honestly that would make for a fantastic video if someone were to paint a G.I. Joe! Make it happen Jon!
I feel your pain Scott, a few years ago we had a kitchen fire, nobody was hurt. Before the fire I had been building a character for a mostly painted 40k army and the greasey-soot/ash got all over the army which was out on my desk (damn open plan living). Broke the project for me, lost all joy for them and never painted them again.
My junior school always had an egg decorating competition at Easter. When I was about 9 years old I made my egg into Thorgrim Grudgebearer, high king of the dwarves from Warhammer fantasy battles, copying the art work from the cover of the dwarf army book at the time. I wholeheartedly approve the Ancient Egg-ypt concept and look forward to seeing the rules.
1:25:55 Jon you better do a GI Joe video for mother's day.... Clearly next year though. My mom died of cancer a few years ago and your story hilted me in all of the right places to have me in tears. The good tears though, the ones about the beautiful memories :)
Just super entertaining! You guys have such good chemistry, all feels natural and fun! And I'm sure all your behind the scenes guys are adding to that. Thanks for giving me something fun to listen to with my headphones in while I do the housework 🤣
You guys do a great job. I've learned and laughed a lot, can't wait until you can come back to Seattle. I will surely do my best to attend a painting class.
Feel you on the Con Jon. Did much the same at a con last year. Accomplished a major task Friday night of the con and got to talking and there wasn't much left in a 1.75 of Maker's Mark. Except, there really was. Oof
Really enjoy listening to the podcast while at work. Talk about a tease, Jon talking about airport drama, then nothing. I would like to continue tosee you have the occasional guest. Those are fun episodes, but I wouldn't want that to become the focus of TUP. See you in 2023!
"pull the bristles through your fingers" doesn't mean pull on the bristles. It means pinch the brush and then pull the brush out. I use one of my palm creases. Mostly I just make a few strokes on my palette to form my tip. Don't lick and don't twist. Twisting introduces a curve in the bristle which will cause them to splay.
Next time you’re in Columbus for Vincy-con, you MUST take a trip to Houndogs pizza near OSU. Be warned, it takes some time/a bit of a wait for the food, but it is hands down some of the best, unhealthiest pizza you’ll ever have. Get the smokin’ Joes crust too, it’s a must.
Hyped you found out about sparkling ice, I've been on that for months now (Hard to find diet Dew in my part of Canada) I highly reccomend the Cherry Limeade.
As far as I know, there are 3 solvents that can be used to clean up liquid plastic, according to the guys at Smooth-On, Alcohol - Low moisture, Acetone, and white spirits.
01:12:12 Jon talking about magic being for professionals is the exact same structure (but nerdier lol) of that scene from Rounders where Matt Damon explains why poker isn't gambling
Been getting back into painting Warhammer lately (never fully stopped) and this pod has been great, i'm a big pod consumer in all genres and yours' compares super favourably. What i REALLY like is that neither of you are squeaky clean wholesome reddit guys (which is always super phoney) BUT also not edgelords (which CAN be good but can also create super awkward cringe moments when someone gets IRL Peed off) a great balance. I enjoy the what we painted part and i think it would be good if maybe you set each other a little 'Homework' just for TUP, which you could eventually turn into videos for your channel(s) but would also guarantee some interesting insights each ep and just generally (slightly) pivot the content distribution towards that segment.
My most noteworthy memory of an old card shop I used to frequent over a decade ago was the amount of "sure" going around. It made games so impersonal and procedural, I hated it lol. "Imma do the thing with the card" "sure" "Tap this for that" "sure" god damn it dude dont act like you are at your telemarketing job here
As a 40 year old Dutch... KUT!!!!!! Always funny!!!! Because next to a hillbilly way of calling out the female parts, it is also a swear word. It could be used to call something 'shit' or 'stupid'. In the Dutch Army, we also explain kut as: 'Kwalitatief Uitermate Teleurstellend'. Qualitatively Extremely Disappointing. So, somebody could do a 'kut-job' with cleaning his rifle. 🤣👍
Hey, I really enjoy watching TUP while building/painting anything gaming related. That said, can you fellas paint some Warhammer 40k tanks for 2023 shows. I feel there may be others around that would really like to hear about any ideas you have to share. Thanks and wish you both a Safe New Year!
Some feedback for ya: More images on screen please, and keep those images up for the entirety of the relevant discussion. E.g. at 1:50:08 show the crab mini.
I mean... This show is a real dumbster fire. Full of fart jokes, food talk, questionable bewerage recommendations, painting philosophy I don't agree with and two nut jobs... And still for some strange reason it's the best podcast I listen too and it even motivates me to just paint more minis. So I'm slaying the grey this very moment and cannot wait for Season 4!
Suggestion: I love it when you'd have various guests and would love to see more. Be it well known painters like Vince or Sam or Guy, or more obscure people like sculptors or people in the hobby
The idea of having different looking blood knights would actually work well with the lore of the Kastelai dynasty. They’re supposed to be outcasts in a sense and are without a dynasty of their own for one reason or another
For anyone reading this. The magic sauce for removing the resin from your models is to not have them on the desk when you are mixing up resin. Let that be the takeaway for all.
Y'all nailed it! Battle reports should have commentary over the top of the video. Honestly all the hard work has been done by sportscasters already. It just needs to be copied. Another rabbit hole I think, is trying to make it like a movie rather than a sport, in the edit.
Only one thing to say about Scott's Greyjoy incident... Be, Aggressive. B E Aggressive. (Scott you'll have to reference Vince or Jon for that because you're a fetus)
Scott ... Usual Suspects flashback: The Sparkling Ice is the secret to A.B.P. and keeping up with Vincey V. and it was in front of you the whole time. 😉
So to answer your question, I've always used my fingers to restore a point to my brushes. I mean what kind of sick, weird, 6-year-old mind would lick a paint brush?
Been watching both of your individual channels for a while and have seen a couple of the episodes of this show... is there a recommended set of episodes to "catch up" or is there even a need to? Or a different way to approach - are there 2 or 3 episodes each of you think are your favorite? I really appreciated the one I just watched on "How Beginners Should Learn" (S2E11) and could relate to a lot of what was talked about re: making each look good for the 2k point army, not just painting, too much looking and unfair (to me) comparing to what is on Instagram/social media. Hoping to find some more gem episodes to watch. Thanks for just being real people - it comes through on the video.
Hey next time y'all are in Columbus OH, swing by Watershed, it's a restaurant and distillery, I'm a sous chef there and I'll get you a discount for the entire party. 🤘
All jokes aside, you are describing a strong indicator of alcoholism. Not that you are an alcoholic, but drinking to excess in that way is a warning sign.
I wholly agree with the statement that it’s more likely people will listen tit ur backlog of a podcast more readily than they will watch the back log of a channel. But with most of the mini-centric channels I flow these days I have gone through all of their videos from the beginning after I found them for the first time. Maybe I’m the outlier.
Oh yeah Jon I'm def stealing that green and purple skin for my soulblight army you went for saturated color instead of pulling it super pale it looks super poppin
As a resident of England and citizen of the United Kingdom I can assert with absolute confidence that I have never heard the term New Britain applied to anything other than the island of that name in the Solomon Islands. I will happily concede that former PM Tony Blair was responsible for a number of semantic absurdities but to the best of my recollection at no stage of his premiership did he try to rename or rebrand the country.
So the moment has past ... someone got a little to excited about those minis , not looking at annybody ..:D kidding , great podcast keep up the work both of you :)
I wonder if it wouldn't be a bad idea to comment on your stream footage? Like when you paint to further comment on what you're doing and what you're learning or how we could learn and become better painters? Also will promote your streams and help the visuals for the TH-camrs?
The crab came second for miniature of the year 2021. There were quite a few warhammer community articles and social media posts about it. What's up with the conspiracy theory about them somehow hiding that result? I don't see any evidence of that.
I don't think there's much more to making the podcast better. You guys do a lot on it already and it's a ton of fun to listen to. I think the medium unfortunately doesn't bring a whole lot of eyes and ears unless people are truly interested in the conversation or the people because it's long form. So personally podcasting seems more like a slow burn of growth instead of TH-cam which still is slow growth but you can have more wild swings of more or less successful videos.
Friends dont let friends prime with gesso....always seems to crack, the tooth is weak, and its a royal pain to clean off if you try to strip the model.
I listen because you two are truly passionate about mini painting, you look at all sorts of aspects of mini painting, and you two are such good friends and play off each other so well.

love how scott messed up his first winning reference by saying "sam pierce" instead of "sam smith" that was so on brand and hilarious
I let out a quiet, “Nooooo,” when he said it with such confidence.
Stupid thing is I don't even know a Sam Pierce
1:28:02 that moment when Jon realizes his whole life has been leading up to model making
I love hearing about Jon's mom sewing GI Joe things. My grandma used to sew super hero suits our GI-Joes. It was awesome.
Jon talking about his upbringing into the miniature world via the smaller scale action figures really hits hard for me since I'm the exact same way. I love the smaller scale figures so much! Honestly that would make for a fantastic video if someone were to paint a G.I. Joe! Make it happen Jon!

around the 1:22:00 mark Jon talks about Dr Pepper, but using the short version DP... and i was like.... are we still talking drinks? xD
Play On Table Top does an amazing job with 40k in 40 minutes battle reports with commentary, interviews, and explanations
My junior school always had an egg decorating competition at Easter. When I was about 9 years old I made my egg into Thorgrim Grudgebearer, high king of the dwarves from Warhammer fantasy battles, copying the art work from the cover of the dwarf army book at the time.

Only Podcast me and my sister listens to together! Your doing something right boys. Here’s to the new season
Thanks for another season folks. Made mondays a lot more bearable
Easily the best miniature painting podcast! Can't wait for the next season!
1:25:55 Jon you better do a GI Joe video for mother's day.... Clearly next year though.
My mom died of cancer a few years ago and your story hilted me in all of the right places to have me in tears. The good tears though, the ones about the beautiful memories :)
love you guys! happy new year
Just super entertaining!
The fact that you guys have quit previous jobs to pursue what you love, and succeed, is awesome.
Feel you on the Con Jon. Did much the same at a con last year. Accomplished a major task Friday night of the con and got to talking and there wasn't much left in a 1.75 of Maker's Mark. Except, there really was. Oof

See you in 2023!
Still waiting for Vincy con tickets to come on sale.
One of these years it's gonna happen
! Boom ! and another year passes by.. it is so much better with TUP ! Congrats on another season !
TUP the podcast that does it’s own stunts including but not limited to hobby knives and all kinds of soda tastings.
Congrats on another season !!!
Love love love TUP! Great year guys. Keep it up!
I’m dead serious about this.
Love how Jons hair is slowly emerging from under his hat :D
Hyped you found out about sparkling ice, I've been on that for months now (Hard to find diet Dew in my part of Canada) I highly reccomend the Cherry Limeade.
I think the way Gold Squadron Podcast covers X-Wing, shows how to make competitive miniature gaming interesting, in a similar way to what you describe
The funniest part was then they said magic the gathering was balanced and fun. Never leave the fish bowl my dude… the pond is far from a fun place
As far as I know, there are 3 solvents that can be used to clean up liquid plastic, according to the guys at Smooth-On, Alcohol - Low moisture, Acetone, and white spirits.

"Imma do the thing with the card"
"sure"
"Tap this for that"
"sure"
god damn it dude dont act like you are at your telemarketing job here
As a 40 year old Dutch...
It's a chat show hands down , podcast is a new word for chat show in my eyes n ears 😂

Omg! I did the same with GI Joe, I even went one step further and coloured some of the pies too.
Great show once again guys! What was the lamp that Scott talked about? I can't seem to find it in the description.
I think the only course of action is use a dry cloth and soft brush to get as much as you can while it's wet off
My hobby room actually did burn down with every mini I owned inside it in July, right before the 4th of July weekend ironically 🤣
Trapped under plastic: the podcast that knocks over your original formula nuln oil.
I feel the Egg format could be a low-cost way to play GW games -
Egghammer 40k
Egg Trader
Egg Team
Eggromunda
Eggstone Fortress
Eggcry
Underegg
Middle Egg Strategy
Links for the lights you guys talked abt?
For me i jus like you guys as people and i value your inputs on the hobby, plus inspired by yall, just have no time to actually hobby.
So sorry to hear about the mini accident Miniac! Ugh!
Lol! "Eat my steamy lore!" 😂 😂 😂
Suggestion: I love it when you'd have various guests and would love to see more. Be it well known painters like Vince or Sam or Guy, or more obscure people like sculptors or people in the hobby

One and only "Unhooooolllleeeyy" song that I know made by "Kiss". And Im happy about it
I have a specific Channel Lock tool just for opening my Tamiya jars lol
I'm getting to this episode late. But I would totally buy a t-shirt of muppet Jon in a garbage can with fireball, tendies and a paint brush.
Love hearing about vincycon! 4 whole weeks 😢❤
I do hope that “Eggs-Wing” came up as a game possibility
What is the name of that lamp?
You guys should do a mini of the month!
For anyone reading this. The magic sauce for removing the resin from your models is to not have them on the desk when you are mixing up resin.

I'd think Greyjoy would be more about Underwater Loves... Yes I'm old.
I think the podcast is great. I wouldn't worry about changing much at all. I can't think of anything to improve it at the moment.
Scott ... Usual Suspects flashback: The Sparkling Ice is the secret to A.B.P. and keeping up with Vincey V. and it was in front of you the whole time. 😉
Sealed from a box with friends is the best way to consume MTG!
Wait until we see the price of the upcoming RedGrass hobby lamp.
Great stuff friends 👏 👍
I used to kit bash my ronin warrior action figures, and many others lol
So to answer your question, I've always used my fingers to restore a point to my brushes. I mean what kind of sick, weird, 6-year-old mind would lick a paint brush?

I'm late, but it's wild you mention the house burning bit because RFD Hobbies had a house fire and lost all his hobby shit.
Tit Liquid! I didn't expect a McElroy reference there at the end, how lovely.
What! I airbrush primer 100% of the time now
2:00:00 anyone else use brush on primer?
You should do a vincycon tup live man
Oh yeah Jon I'm def stealing that green and purple skin for my soulblight army you went for saturated color instead of pulling it super pale it looks super poppin
In this episode, Scott explains his ineptitude for miniature painting. In other words, "SSDD". Eat more Tide Pods, my dude.
Ancient Eggypt, Yolk of Oppression
Scotty Doesn't Know x Unholy would be a good mix. I need a full version now
That Lebowski reference... 🤯
The Ancient Eggypt game sounds “over easy” to play. If it’s multi-player mode be called a scramble? 🤔
Trapped Under Pastic the podcast that believes that every Canes has a professional chef...oh and talks about miniature painting sometimes.
Hold up - I've just got an airbrush and have been binging on Vincy Vs airbrushing tutorials - my world is shattered now :/
All hail raising canes!!!!! The redemption of the entire south that and Popeyes!!
A hobby streamer did lose their house in a fire not long ago sorry I dunno who it was but a bunch of youtubers did community posts trying to help

As a patron it's probably better for yall if we watch this video then just hit up the other videos after party right?
The crab came second for miniature of the year 2021. There were quite a few warhammer community articles and social media posts about it. What's up with the conspiracy theory about them somehow hiding that result? I don't see any evidence of that.
Hardcore? Don't you mean Hardboiled!?
MOAR FARTS

Bob and Doug McKenzie ?!!
Don't be so rigid with the format, let it flow a little better and if you go on off the trail is a okay.
Go Pack. Go.
