    Man I never got that survey. Can not believe they removed this!!!

  • @AustinSamuelF
    @AustinSamuelF 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Wow. Somebody in the customer survey division got fired for this. Clearly the changes were not made clear to the customers that were asked. The old design offered behind seat storage and the backs of the seats were covered in hard plastic for on top storage as well as family comfort in mind. Insane! I'd offer 14 and up owners the option to switch out for the old bracket design for free based on the feedback.

    I have a 2008, really like it, and my favourite feature was the rear sliding seat, very disappointed it is no longer offered. I feel the seat back folding down provides just as much storage space as the seat flipping up, but still allows the whole seat to slide. Unless Toyota brings this feature back i will be considering other trucks when it's time to buy.

    I think the hidden dislike count on this video is proof Toyota never surveyed anyone. Just took them out to raise profit.

    The CrewMax does not appear to be geared towards transporting people/family in the back. Having no under seat storage is ridiculous and from what I can tell it could have easily been added. Also, I got the CrewMax for passenger comfort and to use as a family vehicle... taking away the reclining feature seems to have defeated that purpose. Again, as a family vehicle, I didn't purchase a CrewMax to fold the seats up/away and store stuff in my cab. I need the space and seats to store people and their stuff... not one or the other. It's as if the crewMax was geared towards a demographic that didn't purchase it with an intent to use the back of the cab to transport people, but more focused on transporting equipment in the cab... isn't that what the bed of the truck is for?

    for starters I love my Tundra but the Crew Max needs some storage under or behind the seat period. I hate having guns in the truck with really no where to put them out of site. The only way to maybe store them would be in the back of the truck with some type of cover. Great that's another $1000 or more for a quality cover. Seriously needs some kind of storage to keep things you might need for your truck. Tire chains for the winter, emergency gear and tie down straps.... Where the heck do you keep them? It is seriously dumb that there is no storage and don't tell me I should have gotten a SUV. It was just poor engineering and design work. I don't think either one of these guys has a truck that gets used as a truck.

    Just bought a 2014 Crew Max Limited.... love this truck!! I do like the fold up seats, allows for plenty of interior cargo space. However, it would be nice if we could still store stuff behind the seats (allow the seat backs to fold down also) and/or include some type of under seat storage bins. Not pleased that I need to spend another $300+ for after-factory storage bin to keep things from rolling around. Dividers in the center console storage bin would be nice also.

    I have had a Tundra since 2007, than purchased a 2013, and wanted to purchase a new 2015, but I am not because of the REAR seat. I had storage, it helped make our long trip great, etc. a lot was offered by old design, bring it back..or have a change option..........truly sad that you did not keep the same set up.........

  • @whatsmynameb
    @whatsmynameb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Wow, big mistake. I just bought a 2015 Limited CrewMax, and was VERY disappointed to find the seat was not what I had seen in the earlier CrewMax. You mentioned you were listening to your customers; unfortunately I think you grossly misinterpreted the feedback. Your customers were asking for additional functionality, not less. You took away all the comfort adjustments of the back seat and ALL the storage. My huge CrewMax cab has less storage than my old 92 Extra Cab. I have been a loyal Toyota customer for many years, however each year seams to offer a little more, while taking away something else. Mistakes like these and the continued lack of a diesel will make me look take a closer look at the competition.

    I am holding on to my '13 as long as possible. The loss of the slide/recline basically renders the back useless except for sitting. At least add a function to fold the backrest forward to access all that lovely storage!!!! Stupid design flaw is stupid.

    WE HAD THE GREATEST TRUCK OF ALL, NOW, WE JUST HAVE A TRUCK. Been driving a 2010 crewmax for ten years, just bought a new 2020 crewmax and didn't realize until later that the rear seat doesn't slide and now zero storage, as Dr Phil says, "What a Load of Crap", clearly they made up the survey and you dam well know it was strictly a save money move , Toyota cares more about the profit than the customer, the absolute #1 reason for the huge back seat is for people comfort and whatever storage comes with that which there was some, now there's none, stuck with it for for a year now, probably getting rid of the crewmax next year and go with one of the others, "WE JUST CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS", "I WANT SOMEBODIES ASS AND I WANT IT NOW", TOP GUN

    really bugs me there's no under rear seat storage in my 16 CM. I'll have to spend over $200 for an aftermarket option to add storage that should be there from the factory. It is a need.

    • @stratolestele7611
      @stratolestele7611 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yoteyeet5601 I'm not an engineer, but I know that everything is a compromise in design, so I'll jump in:
      I can think of a few reasons. Tundra's have a fairly flat floor. That makes the middle seat more comfortable and better for laying things across.
      It feels like a limo in the back seats. Amazing. They could easily raise the seat bottoms, but that would decrease the headroom, as well as affect the seating dynamics.
      Fact is, everyone of us use our trucks in our own ways. You don't like the design? Choose the other; just be prepared for the inevitable compromises.

  • @peteflores7119
    @peteflores7119 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Completely agree. I purchased my 2014 Tundra because we have a big family. And the truck is awesome only ONE complaint, the rear seat doesn't recline. So now when we have our long (3 to 6 hours) family trips, I have to sit and watch my 7 & 9 year olds heads bobble back and forth, very cruel Toyota. Currently looking into trying to purchase older seats to replace our current Limited leather seats. Did I mention this was our family's third brand new Toyota.

  • @mofofive

    I went to the dealer and was about to trade in my 2011 Crewmax. After seeing the rear seats, it made me realize I didn't want a new Tundra. TOYOTA . . . HUGE MISTAKE! The floor isn't even level like it is in the F150. WHAT IS THIS SPACE REALLY GOOD FOR???? Add bricks to the floor to make level just add a cooler/ice chest? Really?

  • @UBAYBE
    @UBAYBE 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There should be way more storage. ThinkSki bags behind the rea seats, tow ropes and booster cables under the floor like the ram trucks. large storage under the seats!

      Maybe there redesign will be better. the biggest complaint I had with mine was the back seat. But I fixed it.

  • @pope66
    @pope66 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nope. Bad survey. Previously, you could fold the seat flat, with a hard plastic shell back that allowed the space to still be used for storage. This new style just removes more ability of the owner to use both functionality and comfort. You could have designed a lift on the seat, with rails to slide; much like a minivan/SUV seat.

  • @MrNaughtymoney
    @MrNaughtymoney 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Why wouldn't you just do both have some with the fold up and some with the slide now I'm second guessing getting the 14 because I want the slide and recline ... I love the truck buy that's just one thing I really like about the crewmax

  • @mangosnapper35
    @mangosnapper35 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I am quite put off by the redesign and feel Toyota has really messed up with this. Virtually all additional storage was removed from this version of my 16 CM Platinum and I just hate it. No rear storage, no second glovebox, no console trays, no front armrest storage as before. I am regretting a truck I should be thrilled with. Sure wish I would have looked more closely at the issues before I purchased under the assumption the storage was gone. Glad there are aftermarket options to help regain some storage but Mike dropped the ball on this. The question on the poll used for making the decision on the redesign should have contained a quantifying statement noting that all under and behind seat storage would be lost for the flip up option you only use a couple of times a year.

    Toyota needs to step up and offer a diesel engine, rear flat floor, slide and recline rear seats- just like the 2019 Ram truck. Oh, I forgot to mention the Ram offers a Ram Box. Hear that Toyota?

  • @dirkdejong8421
    @dirkdejong8421 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I certainly would care about the slide and recline feature but its a real pain that there is no way to access the space behind the seat back. Obviously they figured that out on the newest generation but it would be spectacular to be able to retrofit the 2014-2021 for access to the area behind the seat.

    So I had a 07 double cab and yes the fold up seat was nice, but there was also room under the seat to store stuff. I just bought a 2015 crew max unfortunately not looking at the back seat option close enough. There is zero space under seat. Huge regret .

    This design sucks... If you are going to do something don't half ass it.. if the seats are going to tilt up storage should have been available, and the seat backs should be able to go forward. The waste of space behind the rear seat kills me, the rear seats in the 2014 Tacoma are awesome storage under and behind I would have expected the tundra to surpass it in many ways. This is a big let down and I can honestly say besides the gas mileage of my tundra, I truly hate the rear seat design especially coming from the 2014 Tacoma ...

    Best utility rear seat = ford crewcab once you have that flat floor and enormous space there is no comparison. Toyota fold up seat is also too thick reducing possible space. There is a very fine line when it comes to comfort and utility in light duty trucks. Toyota still a nice truck though.

My 04 GMC Crew cab had the seats folding down flat so it made kind of a shelf you could put tools or groceries on it .The double cab floor is really to small for a lot of things. You guys need a better design. I Love my Tundra. Just my 2 cents.

  • @lauradoughamilton3742
    @lauradoughamilton3742 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2014 crewmax might have more cubic inch space than the previous model, but it has exponentially less functional space. Where am I suppose to store all the items I have behind the seat of the old crewmax in the new? On the floor where the passengers are going to be putting their feet? Maybe if they had put storage bins under the seats we could call it a success, but in its current state it is a huge fail. How about eliminating the storage container in the center counsel...now there is a just a big open box and we have to try to retrofit something to go in there to keep it organized. Or how about the elimination of the second glove box, the little door storage, and the storage under the cup holders? All have been eliminated on the new design making the interior space less functional. Seems like everything on this new design was all about making the consumer scratch their head and ask themselves what were they thinking and is this enough to keep me as a Tundra owner. If they were so intent on listening to their customers they might have decided to put a 6'6" bed on the crewmax.

  • @valyafadlon9144
    @valyafadlon9144 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To do away with the folding rear seats in the crew cab was a very foolish idea! One reason I purchased and love my 12 tundra crew max was due to the fact i could store my tools behind the rear seats without affecting rear passengers comfort! How will i store things now and have rear passengers? Lift up the seats and let them sit on top? Its a crew max not the two door! I might as well get a ford crew max at this point when its time to purchase in 2015! What were you thinking and who recieved this survey? Im sure no crew max owners where asked! I am sure you have now made purchasing new crew max less desirable since it is now just a double cab why spend the extra money for nothing...just a roll down back window? Also in the work place the rear window and fold down seats are used in conjunction when transporting longer objects. 2013 crew cabs I guess will become more desirable however your 2014 crew cab has lost its advantages and believe me with 13mpg you needed the utilization of the rear seats as a bonus! Wanted the 2015 Tundra Pro however with no storage in the back and or comfortable seating for long trips....I will pass!

    If Mr. Toyota told you to give the customers what we want, why the hell would you release a brand new redesign truck with the same old engine???? Look at what Ford is doing with their ecoboost! That is what I want but in a Tundra, v6 twin turbo, better mpg, and can tow a shit load of stuff...I love the redesign of the new tundra but hate that it still have the same old engine, I am sure it's a great engine but the towing and mpg is just not up to the Ford F150 standard. C'mon Mr. Chef engineer don't try to sale people something old and package it in a new skin...the sad thing is that I am a big Toyota fan, even have family working in Southeastern Toyota but I'm thinking real hard about getting the F150. Be the leader in trucks Toyota!!! Be bold and innovative!!! Consumers are much smarter these days, especially in truck market. If the specs don't show what we want you are not going to move that truck off the lot... Cheers

      I understand what you're saying the eco-boost does have some power and just was truck shopping for one. I was looking at going from my 2012 F150 V8 5.0L to the eco-boost. However I started hearing from people I know that they have had numerous issues with the turbo. Several friends had the turbo go out 2-3 times in just a few years, not good. After shopping around the Tundra 5.7L was the most reliable out there. Only issue I have with my newer 2017 is the gas tank size. Everything with a V8 should have a 30+ galloon size tank.

    I will keep my 2nd gen tundra the whole point of buying a truck with that much ludicrous back seat space is because I can still comfortably fit adults in back seat with the seat pushed all the way forward and have a ton of room for all my gear behind the seat where it's safe inside the truck I own a crewmax tundra and I don't remember getting any survey if you where going to make a change that drastic to the truck you should have clarified that the seat was not going to have ANY!! storage under or behind and I guarantee you your results would have been different the seat design in the 3rd Gen is a total FAILURE! not just the back the narrower stiffer front seats make for a tight feel in a truck that's 19 feet long and weights 3 1/2 tons there is no reason a vehicle that massive should feel tight I was really exited when the 3rd gen was announced I hit the dealer the day they got one sat the wife in the truck it took 3 min for us both to decide that truck was not for us I'll keep my good old faithful 2nd gen tundra we've been from Georgia to Alaska hauling 3 to 10k lbs and she's been a beast the entire time not once has she ever let me down

    I have had a 2004,2008, and now a 2014 tundra. I loved all of them. The only complaints I have had have come with the 2014. What is up with that head rest. I think they are trying to cripple everyone by making you look down or lay the seat back like a recliner. I roll with mine on backwards. The back set is my second complaint. If you are going to half-ass something steady make the back where it will lay down too so you can clean behind it and make the floor flat. I have never had a toolbox until this truck. There is not enough room to store a extra pair of shoes or jacket in this thing.

    The survey must have been sent to only DC owners, not CM owners. Waste of rear space. I have a 10 CM and a 16 CM. Why change rear seat and why remove drivers grab handle. Very stupid on part. They traded profit on parts at expense of truck sales.

    Ehh. Wrong. This guy must have gotten fired. Want to sell more tundra's, make it different than the other guys. Was going to buy a newer tundra because of this feature but since it's gone, so am I!

    I have 2018 Crewmax SR5 and it's interior has a really cheep feel to it. The seat folding up as you see in the video, you have to push up seats hard or they dont lock and drop back down. You see him push up again to lock it. For the price could have added storage under the seats instead of foam. I love my truck. But I have LOTS of work ahead of me to take the cheap out. The door handles feel like something for a kids toy. The dash - cheap, Stereo - Cheap and out dated. over priced. Engine Good. MPG BAD. Resale value good.

    Toyota y’all got it WRONG AGAIN!
    all those cheap Ass backs seats do is fold up there still isn’t any storage space under the back seat on the crew max u idiots raised the floor platform up about 8 inches for nooo reason. The entire interior is cheap and extremely plasticky and boring lookin especially for a price tag of $55,000. You guys need to go back to the drawing board
