The topic of grammar instruction is still up for debate in the fields of Applied Linguistics and SLA. Language teachers have concerns about how grammar should be taught because linguistics offers a wide range of grammatical models, including structural, generative, and functional grammars. Language instructors have, more often than not, been at a loss for decision when determining which of the three models to use in the class (Torres, Santos, 2021). Should they adhere to the structural approach or pursue the acquisition of the learners' grammatical or communicative competence; should they focus on rules or the appropriate use of language. The development of language teaching practice has been profoundly influenced by the above mentioned concerns related to grammar teaching, which have been the subject of several fruitless discussions regarding the ideal approach to teach grammar.
I've never understood the marketing of learning "like you did as a child." So you're saying I need to have at least 14 hours a day complete immersion with hours of one-on-one attention, and even then it'll take at least four years before I can even discuss fairly simple concepts?
so the post method period (content based instruction, task-based instruction, competency based instruction etc (to be honest, no idea what comes after etc :) ..is this period over? Are we on the edge of something new?did you name it eclectic approach? isnt it this one which can be a model of current trends in teaching English?
