I first saw this video when I was 18 years old, and remember being in awe of what an incredible story this short work of art was. Now at 28, I’m still in just as much shock and awe as the first time I witnessed it. Thank you so much again for creating this incredible work.
This is Assassin's Creed 1 should have been like reveling Altair's story from a tragic young boy, to a disgraced assassin to the Ultimate and greatest Grand Master assassin in history
Nah we need a proper prequel to AC1. Assassin's Creed 1 is just perfect as the way it is. We need a prequel revealing the origin of Altair & his feats. How smart he was & how Isu blood affected him
Nothing is true, everything is permitted. The wisdom of our creed is carried on by these words. We work in the dark, to serve the light..... We are assassins.
Yeah, I really want to play another game back in Altair's timeline, it would be cool to see his early life but I can imagine Ubisoft already have plans for future games, who knows though
Guys, the leaping into he water is symbolism. Like when getting baptised. It's a cleansing, removing the past and starting fresh. When he cut off his finger and left his print on the wall he proved he was a new person. The water was a way of removing the old and allowing the new. Who cares if he couldn't swim in the game. That only really mattered near the end anyways when your jumping around in the docks.
This is by far the best non-canon video related to Assassin's Creed I have ever seen. I love this animation about the initiation of Altaïr to the brotherhood, and in my opinion, Ubisoft should make this official. Great job you have done here you all, keep up the good work!
This is just wonderful, amazing, and really, really well done. I think this is the perfect prequel short to Altair's commitment to the brotherhood. I love how all the assassins before him had to leave their mark like that in their own blood. In many ways and even still today, nothing is stronger than a blood-oath.
This is just wrong. at 8:23 it shows that below is a lake and Altair is going to do a leap of faith. If you've played the game, do you know what happens when Altair goes to a body of water?
But we aint watching through the animus, and Altair's inability to swim was because of a glitch in the animus 1.28 as said in a mail to allan rickman in ac 1
It depends on you're dominant side. Losing the finger is the sacrifice mainly but its also for the hidden blade. the blade naturally goes where the ring finger sits so doing that makes it easier. Ezio didn't do it because Leonardo Davinci modified it.
In order to wield the hidden blade better, one must cut off his/her ring finger. It also acted as a sign of faith. Eventually Altair redesigned the blade to not require your ring finger being cut off. However, they still burned your ring finger to create a scar, reminiscent of the sacrifice.
Guys here is the correct information about Assassins and their originality, I have seen some of you have different ideas and thoughts about that so read carefully. the name of Assassins was not Assassyun or maybe some of the races at that time called them Assassyun (which in Persian means Assassins the same). But The correct name for them is Hashashin. The original base and leader was From Iran from Ismailis dynasty you can google it, the leader was called Hasani Sabbah. And they did not create that organization to fight during crusades against Catholics, they did fight with them but the major reason and purpose of that organization was to threw Arabs out of Persian Empire. which at that moment Ismailis Dynasty was ruling Iran and Syria (the country of Masiaf Castle) but their Major Castle is Called Alamut Castle which is located in Iran. As I'm from Iran I have visited the castle an god thats an incredible structure. Yes they was fighting against Abbasi Dynasty the muslim khalif government which they were located in Baghdad (Iraq) and Iranians was not happy to be under their government so they started revolutions which Hashashins is one of the Secret armies of that time. There are still many of their castles in Iran and open for public to visit. please tell your friends and let them know the correct history.
Thank you, for writing all of this down, always good to find out the history behind these things. Assassins creed is sort of fiction based on fiction. The Inspiration was “Alamut“, by Wladimir Bartol. Its a really great book, but probably not super historically acurate. So thanks for clearing that up.
I remember seeing this God knows how long, I’m replaying AC 1-Unity just finished the Anzio trilogy. At the end some of this came back like a old dream, so happy I was able to see it again.
It was stated in the game that Altair's inability to swim was part of a glitch in the Animus Software, and that Lucy needed to fix it. In other words, it is highly likely Altair could swim it's just that when Desmond is playing as Altair in the Animus he couldn't swim.
Congratulations, it's a great video! I haven't met any pre-AC1 history arts/movies before. This movie is impressive) It must be a hard thing to draw the video like this, I admire your patience and montage skill. Though the movements of the characters were not perfect, there was more than technical part, there was heartfulness, especially when it came to retrieving of the blade. All the final part was awesome! And the music was perfect too. Good job, thank you!
an amazing video!! i particularlly like the add on you did of placing his handprint in the cave with all the assassins that have gone before him, amazing work! :-)
I love the look of it. Has to be coolest AC fan-made movie I've seen. Amazing work. PS: the cutting of the ring finger wasn't just a tradition, it was necessary for the use of the hidden blade, it was just later fixed so as to not make it necessary.
First of all, this is really cool. But imagine being one of the dudes that stand around the hole in the beginning. They are just waisting their morning to wait for Altair to get his ass back out of that hole.
The main bone I had to pick was the line about the Assassins using that location for hundreds of years. That's the one fact that cannot be verified (or proven false) on the AC wikia. Other than that nitpicking of a fact, very well done! Loved how this highlighted the commitment and bond that Assassins went through.
I like the music you made for this. Good job. The mouth moving animation was a bit creepy but other then that it's better then what I ever could have put together, haha! And that was much more epic then some older Assassin chopping off his finger with a knife.
Altairs inner mind: 0:11 "Hella, that's a long way to walk!" 0:49 "Lets get that fuckin hidden blade!" 1.01 *snore* 2:38 "Please tell me at least the ROPE is not 100 years old!" 4:01 "Oh my god, are they just like..dead?!!" 5:16 "Where is the bla-ade? There it is!" :D 5:35 "Well, helloooooo.."
Can I just ask why we had a woman near the end as an Assassin? Don't take this to be me against equal rights or anything, but I'm pretty sure it's stated somewhere either in the first game or within the codex's in AC2 (I forget where exactly) that woman were not permitted to join the Brotherhood until after Altair had killed Al Mualim and finally took over. He refers to making the Order fairer and allowing women to join, and also if I remember correctly, about abolishing the cutting off of the middle finger by adapting the hidden blade. Being only an assassin recruit before the events of AC 1, and the fact women during the medieval period were treated like mere cattle to be married off etc., I highly doubt they'd have had a woman dressed as one of the Order before then. Other than that I did actually think this was a very good film, and fits in nicely with the storyline. Maybe you could do another one involving that rival of Altair's that went mad when he took over after Al Mualim died, as shown in AC Revelations.
The woman was one of the Ones Who Came Before who created the Pieces of Eden which the Brotherhood have fought to keep out of Templar hands for centuries. You do know your facts, and I applaud you for that, but the woman in the final room is merely one of the Ones Who Came Before. The first civilization. Don't take this the wrong way. Just answering your question as detailed as I can.
BronyinDisguise hmmm, that is logical, captain. But why then is she wearing an Assassins outfit. I suppose it could just be how she wishes to be seen by mortals, but then if she is a One Who Came Before, its not really that consistent. In the games, whenever we see them they're dressed in togas and that ancient looking garb. Interesting idea though, I'll mull it over, thanks.
about the finger-cutoff, in AC2, Ezio found a codex with he dual hiddenblade where you had to get your finger cut off, but Leonardo Da Vinci found a way where it wasn't needed to cut off. I haven't playe A1 yet so it might be that i am wrong
456creaper Actually that was Altair who discovered how to avoid cutting off the finger, after the events of AC1. He's the one that wrote the Codex pages Ezio has to find in AC2. The codex pages when all found and translated, appear to be more like a diary of Altair than just general instructions. Leonardo da Vinci just copied that particular codex's design for the revised hidden blade. What I think you mean is, he translated the codex page, because they were all in riddle or code to remain secret.
The hidden blade, the main weapon of the assasins, in that time use to go right through your middle and pinky finger, thats why only the highest rank among them used it. In Ezio's time, the hidden blade was already perfected to not need the user to rip off the finger.
To allow the blade to pass through the space of your ring finger quickly and easily, also because it is symbolic of a life long commitment to being an assassin, and being "married" to the creed, hence the ring finger being cut.
Wow this is awesome, I always imagined that there would be something like that(if it were real) but this video is SO AWESOME, so glad that it popped up in my Recommended Box ;)
Only problems with the video are there weren't any women assassins during that time and Altair didn't swim (not saying he couldn't but he never really did lol)
Or maybe they didn't want you to swim. Since masyaf is high above water, if Altair fell, he wouldn't be able to get out. I'm not sure if it apply's with Damascus and such
He didn't died.. Maybe your talking about the game, in the game if you go to the water you die amma right? But Altair can really swim, the reason why he can't swim in the water in the game!.. Is Because it is bug from the machine that Desmond is in.
***** how do you know that was the glitch in 1.0, and in assassins creed 2 the desmond mission where he faint from the bleeding effect, you can jump off of the wall surrounding acre and then drown and de-sync
That was freakin awesome! :D Except in that time period, nobody knew how to swim, not even the assassins. Back then, if you floated in water, you were a witch and burned at the stake...
Haha wtf! At least some initiates should have had enough common scene to move their hand out of the way when using the hidden blade... Jesus! do they not see the blade or do they just fall for it?
NoisyboyGaming They have to do that, it's so they can use the HB more effectiviely, also to show they wield the blade. It was a must for those who became assassins.
The Burning Owl Unless they have arthritis I don't see why it would be that hard to hold back their finger. If it is a must than why does Ezio, Connor, and Edward know how to use the blade properly?
When Altair was close to his death, he redesigned the Hidden Blade so that no one needs to remove the ring finger and that it just needs a flick of the wrist. It was like a blue print made by Altair. Then in AC2, Ezio found it and Leonardo Da Vinci was able to remake it after translating what it said.
Take notice: Word: Assassin comes from "Hashashin" it is the persian word for Assassin, since the first assassin order was formed in Syria but later expanded its headquarters and organisation to Iran, these assassins also show up in the movie prince of persia, they were elite killers and well educated, obeyed no one but themselves, the order was formed during the crusades, and at the same time the Templar order was formed, however there are no signs of connection between them like in AC series.
@deadliestcholo the early versions of hidden blade required your to remove the ring finger because the blade was activated a ring cuff on your little finger, and when you flex that little finger it operates the blade's mechanism and the blade extends out. However, when you flex your little finger up, your ring finger naturally goes down, and the blade would have sliced through it. So you had to remove the ring finger in order to use the blade, and to show commitment.
5:31 Well... Technically the Hashshashin would never call themselves that, only their enemies ever called the Nizari “Hashshashin” But maybe she didn't say that and I just heard it wrong xd Even though correct me if I'm wrong
They took the name in the lore. Sort of a mockery of the insult. This is a time where they are far more public with their kills than before. Hope this answers your question after such a long wait.
Altair was made mentor of assassins after he killed Al Mualim and has since forbidden the cutting of the ring finger for the upcoming members of assassins.
Assassin was actually derived from the word assassioun (as was mentioned by Al-Moalim in AC.. which means they band together around a foundation. And then they were called hashashins as you explained
For hundreds of years, there sure weren't a whole lot of hand prints... And I wonder what they would have done once the wall had no space left. Create a new initiation cave completely identical to the old one? Without the filled walls, of course. Haha, but seriously, this was cool. I like your art style. Thanks for sharing!
if i remember correctly, Assassins originally cut off their ring finer to show commitment to the brotherhood and to allow the original hidden blade design to work. however after obtaining the apple of Eden, Altair gained knowledge of weapons in the future so he modified the design to allow assassins to use the hidden blade without losing their ring finger since it would have been an obvious sign they where a assassin and from there they branded the ring finger instead.
He acts like he's in no pain once he gets his finger cut off. Damn, Altair is tough. I were him i'd probably be screaming in pain.
I first saw this video when I was 18 years old, and remember being in awe of what an incredible story this short work of art was.

This is Assassin's Creed 1 should have been like reveling Altair's story from a tragic young boy, to a disgraced assassin to the Ultimate and greatest Grand Master assassin in history

I think it is a mod

Dude, send this to ubisoft and ask them to incorporate it into the next game for Desmond's clone or whatever
Yeah, I really want to play another game back in Altair's timeline, it would be cool to see his early life but I can imagine Ubisoft already have plans for future games, who knows though
@MinecrafterAlex I just realised that was three years ago, it's safe to say Ubisoft don't have any plans on going back on Assassin's Creed
I think the closest we got to this was Bayek losing his finger.
altair jumping on the water ? *dead*
NOT dead. He only dies when he's in the water because of a glitch in the animus Abstergo was using
*IT WAS JOKE*
@@tuliwudstudios9214 Lol :D
I think he dont have Play AC1 :D

The idea of leaving a mark on the wall is brilliant! Great job!
I bet that place is full of fingers.
Yep

Great job you have done here you all, keep up the good work!
6:46 Why can't more assassin's have hidden flame throwers?
Lol
It's not exactly assassin like
It would fit the assassin's from Constantinople, really
More Assassin's Creed fans should watch this
I love that the animation is a bit awkward, gives it more character. The art is just lovely, great job guys :D

fuck you! altaIr cant sswim.
he can
Ram Garol yes, but Altaïr was his own person before Desmond relived his memories in the animus.
Actually, he can swim, it is a glitch in the Animus that makes it as if he can't.
One of the best fan made about assassin's creed, just one word: again, again.
Finding out the where the hidden blade tradition comes from makes this even better
It depends on you're dominant side. Losing the finger is the sacrifice mainly but its also for the hidden blade. the blade naturally goes where the ring finger sits so doing that makes it easier. Ezio didn't do it because Leonardo Davinci modified it.
Thanks to Altair's new design of the hidden blade
Beautifully done and created. Best thing I've ever seen!
In order to wield the hidden blade better, one must cut off his/her ring finger. It also acted as a sign of faith. Eventually Altair redesigned the blade to not require your ring finger being cut off. However, they still burned your ring finger to create a scar, reminiscent of the sacrifice.

The mountain of Masyaf is one of Hasan Sabah who is the great Leader of Hshashin, search his name and you will find what I mean.
I read the Alamut castle was taken over during a siege then they made Masyaf castle

Assassins creed is sort of fiction based on fiction. The Inspiration was “Alamut“, by Wladimir Bartol. Its a really great book, but probably not super historically acurate. So thanks for clearing that up.

Ezio?
Awesome work guys! this should have been in the last episode of ezio's dreams of Altair!

This was an amazingly animated video and I found it stunning and powerful it really hit all my emotions and Altair feelings this was really great
It was stated in the game that Altair's inability to swim was part of a glitch in the Animus Software, and that Lucy needed to fix it. In other words, it is highly likely Altair could swim it's just that when Desmond is playing as Altair in the Animus he couldn't swim.

The main bone I had to pick was the line about the Assassins using that location for hundreds of years. That's the one fact that cannot be verified (or proven false) on the AC wikia. Other than that nitpicking of a fact, very well done! Loved how this highlighted the commitment and bond that Assassins went through.
stunning story, keep it up!
I thought it was actually an official short done by Ubisoft XD It's that good :D
"Remember,The Decisions are made below cannot be taken back"

Why she is wearing the Assassin robe, I have no clue. Most likely part of the ritual. I'll do more research on my end...

So the hidden blade acted like a big knife and cut off his finger.
I liked how the hidden blade removed the finger, that was pretty cool!
I salute altair ibn la ahad
This is one of those videos on youtube that deserves alot more views...
surely he'd be losing a lot of blood rapidly. ouch
Wow this video was post when i was 2 in fact it was the day before my birthday
I got a question for the initiation why do they have to cut off their ring finger

you can see that in the statue in ac2

Armin Arlert the Forgotten Soldier Altair can swim, it was just a glitch in the Animus. They do explain that in the game I think.
Maybe he was just afraid of water

This is Awesome :)
People's view of this: An awesome fan made short.
My view of this: The storyboard for the Assassin's Creed movie.
this seems a bit much even for the Levant Assassins.
This is so awesome. This should have been an Altair Memory sequence in Assassin's Creed: Revelations. GOD this would've been awesome.

This was beautiful. :') Thank so much for crafting such a fine work of art!
this was absolutly beautiful the artwork was amazing.
Darius in heaven: THATS NOT HOW YOU WEAR MY CREATION YOU FOOLS
At least Eivor wore it the intended way.
That was fucking amazing! Like holy shit I am so in love with this *o*
You made a master piece thank you my brother
This would've made such a great memory in revelations
that was exceptionally well made!! Better than I though it would be!! props are bestowed upon you!
The artwork is beautiful!! Kudos to Eric H.!!

Well... Technically the Hashshashin would never call themselves that, only their enemies ever called the Nizari “Hashshashin”
But maybe she didn't say that and I just heard it wrong xd
Even though correct me if I'm wrong
They took the name in the lore. Sort of a mockery of the insult. This is a time where they are far more public with their kills than before. Hope this answers your question after such a long wait.
Dive thousands of feet into a lake with a missing finger after making no attempt to stop the blood flow. Best idea ever.
Altair was made mentor of assassins after he killed Al Mualim and has since forbidden the cutting of the ring finger for the upcoming members of assassins.
This was incredible! Gave me goosebumps.
that was amazing good job =)
I really like that. Vladimir Bartol would have been proud.
ya know this is actually very cool. nice job man.
And he dies after that because he accidentally leaps into water😭😭
Omg this is an awesome video!! The art is gorgeous!!! well done!!!
That artwork is dope af!
And that's how Assassin is born.
BRAVO! BRAVO! This is a SPECTACULAR short-film great work guys!
I missed this, so much nostalgia
if i remember correctly, Assassins originally cut off their ring finer to show commitment to the brotherhood and to allow the original hidden blade design to work. however after obtaining the apple of Eden, Altair gained knowledge of weapons in the future so he modified the design to allow assassins to use the hidden blade without losing their ring finger since it would have been an obvious sign they where a assassin and from there they branded the ring finger instead.
