You know, I thought we were the only ones who made it but it turns out that other countries in the Caribbean have their own version! Merry Christmas to you too, Angela!
Its amazing how each country has the same stuff food etc..same ingredient as our Jamaican black/rum cake except coffee..u did it effortless.. beautiful
+Cook Like A Jamaican, I know, right? I had no idea Jamaicans also had a version of black cake until I needed some burnt sugar and found several products on Amazon. I was stunned to see the similarities. You guys have great taste! =)
In Trinidad and Tobago we make a very similar Fruit Cake (Black Cake). We use rum and brandy to soak our fruits. It’s a much longer process. Your black cake looks great 👍🏽
I'm all about bundt cakes for two reasons. For one, like you said, they are soooo pretty but I do it mainly because I live in very high altitude, so this makes it easier to hide a cake that has fallen flat since you serve it upside down! =)
I like to think I'm a pretty capable cook but sadly although I can master Italian or Thai dishes, I haven't taken the time to master the Colombian dishes I grew up eating. Tomorrow is my dad's birthday and I'm going to bake this for him. Thank you for sharing the recipe and video.
Oh my gosh and I personally hate it! LOL. Well, it does the job really, really well but it is LOUD! And I mean, it hurts your ears loud after a few seconds of leaving it on. It's from Black & Decker and I think it cost me like $20 at Walmart. I'm thinking of buying a Cuisinart or Kitchen Aid one next because I can't stand the noise this one makes. =)
Another great video ! Watching it is almost as good (but not quite) as eating a huge slice of that cake. Like always the video leaves me ravenous, dying to try to make a cake like yours.
Hi Diana, thanks for sharing the recipes, they are amazing! I'm curious to know, why wouldn't you soak the cake with the rum and the wine when still I'm the baking pan instead of taking it out and pouring the liquids with a spoon? does it make the rum and wine sink to the bottom leaving the rest of the cake dry?
+Mills Dri, there's several reasons. The main one being that once the cake is out of the pan, it's easier to soak the sides by pouring the wine directly on it. That's why old fashioned bakers who love to make traditional fruitcakes wrap their cakes with rum or wine soaked linens. Another reason is because once you soak it, it's very difficult to remove it from the pan and sit it on a cake stand, if that's what you want to do. And if you're using disposable, aluminum cake pans, the wine can damage the pan leaving holes in it.
Hello, thank you very much for making this recipe available! I don't have scales at home at the moment, so what is the capacity of the cup (taza) that you use for this recipe? Is it 200 ml or 240 ml? Years ago, a Colombian friend brought this cake to the university, and we all ate a slice at 8 am during a class! Because of the alcoholic taste so early in the morning, I have never forgotten that delicious cake. I finally found the recipe and can't wait to try and share with people! ;)
Great story, Sandrine! Use measuring cups whenever you make this cake, it'll be a lot easier. The measurement would be 240 ml. However, keep in mind that the amount of liquor is pretty much to taste, so you can add less or more, if you want. www.sweetysalado.com/en/2014/12/colombian-black-cake.html
I really have no idea, it doesn't sound like a Colombian recipe and that's probably why you haven't been able to find the recipe. I'll ask around and see if anybody has more info about it.
OH WAIT, pan crema? i could have swore the bakery wrote pan con crema on our first loaf, this one said pan crema. let me know if you find anything out hehe, i found nothing D:
Hi kailiananalani15, I never refrigerate it because the cold tends to draw out moisture from the cake. I do store it in a cool place and whatever leftovers I have, I freeze in a resealable bag.
I always buy it online because it's easier for me to get it that way. You can also get it at stores where they sell Caribbean products since they also use it to make their version of black cake.
You can frost the cake with any kind of frosting. The most popular one would be vanilla buttercream and even whipped cream. The cake does taste like alcohol but you can add less if you want.
It can be a bit overpowering but it's the way it's supposed to be. Some people leave the cake as is, without soaking it in wine and it tastes just as delicious.
Sweet y Salado I think all of the Caribbean and various parts of South America have some version of this black cake. My family is from Jamaica and we love it. The Columbian version looks very moist and delicious! I will definitely add it to my collection of recipes. Thank you so much for sharing!
Right I've been trying to find a ja fruit cake recipe I like the look of . I will be using this recipe I love the way it doesn't look too dense and heavy.

But you did not need the gloves to mix the. Wet ingredients just use a wooden spoon and mix the batter .
I usually publish my videos at around 12 A.M. EST and since not a lot of people are up at that hour, that may be why you see it in your queue before others do. =)
I'm going to make this. I'm Jamaican and this is just like ours. Thanks for the recipe.

Looking forward to trying this recipe. Almost exactly the same as Jamaican black cake. Of course going to add some rum to the wine. 😉

In Trinidad and Tobago we make a very similar Fruit Cake (Black Cake). We use rum and brandy to soak our fruits. It’s a much longer process. Your black cake looks great 👍🏽

Wow. Looks delicious!! I always think bundt cakes are so pretty.

You know, a lot of people think it's chocolate but it's actually just a spiced cake with caramel color.
:0 just saw it takes three days.... Sadly mine will not get to soak that long. But next time I'll do that!
My mom used to make this cake but I didn’t remember exactly how, your recipe is pretty much the same way as I remember hers. Thanks
What food processor do you have?! Love the way it works!!

Si vives en EE.UU. lo puedes comprar por mi tienda de Amazon, la encuentras como "Burnt Sugar": shorturl.at/TBGzq
Hello should i refrigerate the black cake or should I leave it at out
Hi kailiananalani15, I never refrigerate it because the cold tends to draw out moisture from the cake. I do store it in a cool place and whatever leftovers I have, I freeze in a resealable bag.
ok, I see. Thank you!!!
Thanks.
interesting I always though it had chocolat, but now that I see how is made is kind of cool
I know, right? A lot of people think it has chocolate because of the dark color but it doesn't.
delicious!
Thanks again, Graham!
❤
Where can I get the Caramel color you are using? We made our own it didn’t color the batter like yours did 😢 pls help
I find it on Amazon. Just search by "Burnt Sugar" or "Browning".
Where do you buy the caramel color your using?
I always buy it online because it's easier for me to get it that way. You can also get it at stores where they sell Caribbean products since they also use it to make their version of black cake.
similar to jamaica's black cake our fruits are pre soak.I am trying it soon.
Can I frost the cake? Will this cake not testing too much alcohol? Please reply
You can frost the cake with any kind of frosting. The most popular one would be vanilla buttercream and even whipped cream. The cake does taste like alcohol but you can add less if you want.
this is like trinidad rum cake we use more rum
Yes, it's very similar to the black cake that is made in the Caribbean.
Trust.. My neighbors were Colombian they make carrot juice like us too.
that looks delicious but wouldn't the wine be overpowering or is it meant to be?
It can be a bit overpowering but it's the way it's supposed to be. Some people leave the cake as is, without soaking it in wine and it tastes just as delicious.
What are the specific measurements of all the ingredients?
www.sweetysalado.com/en/2014/12/colombian-black-cake.html
This is like Jamaican fruit cake/black cake
Yes! I said the same thing when I saw recipes for Jamaican black cake! It's just like our Colombian black cake. =)
They know too much...... We have to kill them before anyone finds out.....
Sweet y Salado I think all of the Caribbean and various parts of South America have some version of this black cake. My family is from Jamaica and we love it. The Columbian version looks very moist and delicious! I will definitely add it to my collection of recipes. Thank you so much for sharing!

This proves that a lot of South American & Caribbean dishes are rather similar. :)
Right I've been trying to find a ja fruit cake recipe I like the look of . I will be using this recipe I love the way it doesn't look too dense and heavy.
