- Charlie Pellett is a veteran news anchor and reporter for Bloomberg Radio. He is based in New York City. Pellett joined Bloomberg in 1992, serving as a member of the original Bloomberg Radio and Bloomberg Television anchor teams. Pellett's voice has been designated as the official "voice" of the New York City subway system. Every day, riders can hear him imploring them to "stand clear of the closing doors."

I went to college with Charlie. He let me wear his ubiquitous Irish sweater when I was cold and let me have his potato chips as long as I left the crumbs for him. It's been almost 50 years and we're still friends. After all, I taught him some of all he knows!!! Thanks, Charlie!

Yea, in fact I had mentioned that in the comment section watching the AJR "Bang" video about how that's the same dude. I must have ESP because I had assumed that it was him and long and behold I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!! "lol"
His "Stand clear of the closing doors please" is so professional and perfect. My grandmother was an acting school diction teacher so I have an appreciation of the skill.
The MTA should keep the abandoned City Hall station as a museum of the history of the MTA. I know we already have the Transit Museum in Brooklyn, but this could be an offshoot of it.

Fast forward to 2022- in 2018 they opened touring of it. It's beautiful!
When I first heard Mr. Pellet's voice, I was on my way to Jury Duty in Brooklyn Federal Court. I must say that I thought it was someone from the Midwest doing the announcements. Nice to find out it is a New Yorker!
I agree and some of Charlie's announcements are stuck to my head like This is 5th avenue (Catherine Cowdery) Transfer is available to the B D F & M trains (Charlie Pellett) and also Ladies and Gentlemen we are momentarily by the train dispatcher due to high train ahead please be patient these were the Charlie Pellett announcements that I knew since I rode on R142A (R188 convert) 7311 last January 20th
After all these years, I finally know who the voice is.

I honestly feel like either the speakers, or something else, distorts Pellett's voice, making him sound more like a farmer. heh.

Also I heard that some R142s are getting new updated shorter announcements, even the Stand Clear of the Doors. Now there's a female voice saying "Please Stand Clear". Stand clear of what? Charlie Pellett, please put a stop to this! I love your announcements!

The way how NYC subway conductors play the announcement over the train's speakers is by pressing this red button that says "Door Warning", and when the conductor presses it, the announcement comes out over the train's speakers.

I'm from Ohio and when I rode the subway it kind of amused me that the recording had a Midwestern accent. I wouldn't have guessed the guy was actually from New York.
I heard this voice 5 times a day for 4 years in NYC between 2009 and 2013
Glad I looked this up. Every time I visit NYC I think that "Stand clear of the closing doors, please" sounds like Harry Shearer, voice of Rev. Lovejoy and Principal Skinner on the Simpsons. Now I know the truth.
Years later and he's also known as the voice that says "Here we go" and "metronome" in the AJR song 'Bang!'

The only announcement to play on all NTT trains at every stop. A true classic.
Since 2018, Velina Mitchell has replaced Charlie Pellet as the new voice for doing PSAs, some transfers, and announcing which stations are ADA-accessible. Pellet remains for his familiar doors closing announcement, and for when a train arrives at the last stop.
Sad, but wonderful to hear both voices. I can never get the phrases out my head! "This is the last stop on this train, everyone please the train, thank you for riding with MTA New York City Transit!"
