Excellent moving movie! Thank you for sharing this gem It shows the struggles of life, how it can kick you down, but we can never give up no matter how bad it seems, God is always there to pick you up!
One of the last to be billed as strictly a First National Picture. The studio, already owned by Warners, would bill pictures under the Warner shield as 'Warner Bros.-First National Pictures' for the next 20 years.
Sad side note Ross Alexander committed suicide not long after this movie some time in the 30's ...he had relationship problems and his wife or girlfriend supposedly shot herself and Ross then shot himself, that is how the story was announced and written in the papers, however, I suspect it may have gone down a little more sinister than reported.... on a lighter note this was a great movie and all these actors are favorites of mine...I think Franchot was underrated and one of my personal favorite actors...Margaret Lindsey had a smile that melted my heart...so many Franchot Tone recommendations...."The Life of a Bengal Lancer " with both Franchot and Gary Cooper, "Dangerous" with Bette Davis and on and on soo many of his movies I enjoy!!
Sadly, Ross Alexander (Smith)was a deeply conflicted actor. He met his first wife while they were on the stage in New York. Henry Fonda was a close friend & His first wife, actor Arleta Freel (Friele) shot herself with a rifle. His last wife, with whom he shared a small farm, was visited by his parents who had driven from Rochester, NY to LA. Ross was a conflicted homosexual who sadly was also a drinker especially on New Year’s Eve 1937. He had an argument with his parents & sent them on their way. He had been drinking & went to the barn with a 22 pistol, climbed into the loft & shot himself on January 2nd. He had a promising career ahead of him. I have his autographed photo on my wall among many others that I’ve admired.

Margaret Lindsay had a lovely smile.
I don't disagree; BUT!!! I would add a BIT MORE to it [DITTO for Ms. Dvorak].
