- Prices of small cars have shot through the roof over the past few years, and what used to be proper big car money barely gets you a base model hatchback now. On the other hand, depreciation is a wonderful thing, and it has hit the luxury car segment quite hard.
In this episode, we look at some interesting picks from the used car segment, which you can buy for around the same price as one of India's favourite premium hatchbacks- The i20.

I own a Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 DSG Diesel - So happy that you also regard them as one of the best and I totally agree with you on that. I do also own a BMW 3GT, But I still like the drivability and comfort of the Jetta 2015 model more than the BMW. GT version comes nowhere compared to regular 3 series but its definitely handles better then a Jetta.....
Navin, maybe he meant just the ease of drivability and comfort. Purely from a comfort and ease standpoint jetta is a simpler car than 3 and maybe that’s what he meant. If I set aside the handling requirements involved in sporty driving, I have also felt the jetta to be more comfy and easy to drive than my f30. So it’s all about the kind of driving one does. So jetta is a reasonably good sedan.

JD and Vivek are actually sitting in two different cars. The left and right portions doesn't match. Look at the shape of the headrests, door pads, grab handles etc. Has anyone else noticed it?

27:32 Haha, even I wouldn't recommend it to a normal buyer. But I seriously love the 7 series of that generation. I've been lucky to get a E66 745Li with all the options in mint condition 5 years back. In this period of time drove more than 100K kms. It's still going strong with regular services and a major service. Maintaining her in a good workshop so my experience is smooth. It's such a joy to drive and be driven in.
But I seem to be one of the only one who managed to find a good one for sale, as I don't see any good condition ones for sale anymore.
When things go wrong the bill is pretty huge but there are just a couple of problems I ran into. The common problems were :
1. Valve seals needed to be replaced after around 100,000kms.
2. Got a new ac compressor at around the same time
3. New radiator reservoir (old one cracked)
4.Sh**ty build quality of the grill, no wonder why in newer BMW's the grill doesn't open along with the hood! My clips got loose and it was hanging, did a bad job of securing it and lost the grill somewhere. Had to drive with an open nose back home 😂 later got a new one and now I make sure the mechanics don't lift it by the grill 😅
Plus points : 1. Interior build quality is top notch even after 15+ years
2. Incredibly comfortable with reclining rear seats, heated and cooled. Great amount of room due to it being a long wheelbase variant. Even got a fridge at the back.
3.Soft close doors
4.A serious rocket, it definitely feels like it has more than the claimed 328 HP. BMWs definitely accelerate harder than the others.
5.Literally no vibrations whatsoever in any speed.
Considering the money spent on maintaince, the amount of fun this car delivers is worth it to me (personal opinion alert!), it's something that I just can't feel in a Mercedes S class (Which I also love btw)
BMWs really know how to make all those horses come to life.
Because of how hard it is to maintain, it's also super rare on the roads which is a quirky plus point in my books 😂
I think I've seen your car running around Cochin, especially on the bypass many times, with a Doctor sticker. I've always thought "Respect to this guy for keeping that V8 E66 on the road". Kudos to you and your taste, Sir.

Very good. A small comment Merc ML 320 or 350 is really a reliable and cost effective one to maintain compared to Audi Q series. I am right.

1-series (RWD) are really brilliant cars. The only gripe I have against BMW is they didn't provide any of the nicer engines in it in India. Have driven a first generation 123d extensively abroad. A brilliant diesel car, the first production diesel to make 100PS/L and superbly fuel efficient at the same time.

W204 has a 6speed manual in diesel which was the base diesel there is halogen headlights base looking alloys and the upper number plate space has black plastic stripe instead of chrome stripe ..There is 1 silver colour of this car in muvattupuzha koothattukulam side i even saw it couple of times

A Jeep Compass MJD ?. Comes with all round disc, Koni FSD dampers, rear multilink, very well built and car like dynamics. Out of state cars (2017-18) comes in north of 13L. Extend a bit get nice 4x4s too.

TBH, I'm one of them that spend a lot of time in OLX checking used cars and enjoying the price coming down each year!!! 2012 Passat seems a better option for me, still waiting for the price to come down a bit 😅
