There is a few negative comments about this video, yeh the pike is out of the water for longer than what some people seem acceptable. Please remember this is a demonstration video. River piker will obviously do this alot quicker in practice. This is a great video and hats off to him for sharing
Cheers Alan. I think most people do realise that so I don't worry too much about the few nagative comments, but i appreciate you sticking up for me. Not an easy video to do on your own but one that i wanted to do as there are still plenty of people who just don't know how to even start. On a normal day that pike would have been chinned out, uhooked and put back in about 20 seconds total as you know. The other thing to remember (and i think i may have said this in the video) the pike was rested a few times in the net for a good times and then that was edited out. Again, that isn't perfect it can lead to the pike becoming a bit stressed but how are we supposed to even attempt a video like this otherwise? If i remember, next video I do i'll include a full unhooking, real time so that people cans ee what happens. tight lines pal
@@riverpiker Cut the hook. Simple. Most people are horrible at unhooking a fish...of its stuck just cut the dam hook, pull it out, and out the fish in the water...
cheers Richard. Kind of why I made the video. Like you, I see so many people doing things the wrong way. I know some are idiots, but some of them just don't know the right way. This is my bit to try and get the word out.
+River Piker great to see and thanks for taking the time to make the video. So many people don't give enough care to fish , I try and help and advise when I can too. I'm off river fishing the weekend . Cheers
Trying to find a slot to get out myself, but it's not easy at the minute. Cheers for the sub hope you enjoy the stuff. New video up tomorrow at 6pm. tight lines
cheers matey glad that helps. I've just iploaded another video that adds a few extra tips also, so might be worth a watch. th-cam.com/video/EjEBV8syn5o/w-d-xo.html
I'd like to say congrats on this video. Looks totally pro. Very clear calm advice, no background music, non repetitive and informative. Others should take note of how to make videos this good. We'll done and thank you.
Matt Cullum Thanks Matt. I did my best to cover it all but make it simple. Not easy when it was not even rehearsed! lol Already helped plenty so that's job done. Thanks for the comments mate, really appreciated.
Excellent video. I tend to be put off fishing for pike because of the stress and fear (for both the pike and me!) around the whole unhooking process. I've read about getting your hand in through the gill covers but seeing it demonstrated so well here really helps. Good stuff! :-)
Good to hear its a help Steve. It's not easy to film it all on your own but I think it does a good job. If you are a bit nervous try and get out with someone more experienced but failing that, watch this a few times and it will help loads. It's still a bit daunting but the confidence comes with practice. Also a big tip is to have one hook, maybe a single hook which will be mutch better than treble hooks flying about.
I once saved a Jack Pikes life, we were just about to start fishing on a course lake and I got talking about Pike to this old timer that was fishing. He said "I’ve just caught one and I’ve just thrown it in the bushes because they are a nuisance". After over an hour, he packed up and left and so I figured I'd check around to find this Pike. To my amazement, sure enough, there it was, a Pike in the bushes, still breathing and very much alive. I did the as to be expected revive motion in the water and it took off as if it had only just been caught. AMAZING!
Wow Mark that really is amazing pal. Shame some of the old timers still think that way. The best course fishing waters in the country are also some of the best pike waters in the country. Many of the poor waters for course fish are also pretty poor for pike. Seems to be a pattern emerging there i'd say. Well done on saving the pike, I like to think you will be rewarded by the pike gods one day.
Started my pike fishing in the 90s and match fishermen and old fishermens attitude to pike was nothing but disgusting, throwing them in bushes was the norm for these dinosaurs, absolutely infuriated me! They would look down there nose at me for being a pike fisherman! Things have got better thank goodness!
I'd imagine having plenty of pike in the water is a sign of a healthy fish population, much like having a sparrowhawk in the garden is a sign of a good bird population. Throwing it in the bushes is disgraceful thing to do nevertheless.
Well done bud, I used to find quite a few pike in the hedge (well, my dog sniffed em out more like) down the canal, the silver fish boys did it quite a lot, what pisses some of em off is pike anglers using the fish they like catching as live/deadbaits, what narks me is that if they are going to do it, at least they could knock it on the head so it doesn't suffer-but then I suppose they will say livebait suffer, so I guess you can't win, but at least that jack was lucky you got it back. Over here in France, I find decent chub dead on the banks -chucked there by trout anglers, pisses me right off.
this is just what i needed. I think pike are fantastic, however unhooking one has always put me off from going; but recently watching your videos has inspired me to give it a go. I've bought all the tools i need and feel much more confident. Not got one in the net yet but had one follow right under my feet yesterday which got my heart going. Can't wait to bag one now. Cheers
Matey that's brillinat to hear. None of it is easy, catching the first or unhooking it. but that follow has already got you excited for more and i promise this pike lure fishing game is just awesome. I can guarantee your first pike is not too far away. Keep doing what ever you did before that got the follow. Mix up the retrieves with faster, slower, pauses and the rest to try and trigger a hit. Some days they grab everything and others you've no chance of gettingone to take. As for unhooking, the first one might be tricky. Not sure where to put the fingers, sharp teeth everywhere and then those hooks that always seem to be in a dangerous place. This video does help, you will have the stuff in your head. so just be organised, take a breather and then just go for it. Be firm and confident. Once the hooks are out and away from you both, have a quick look at where everything is in the pikes mouth and where your fingers go. It will get easier but eventually something will go wrong and that will either be raker rash, a nasty cut from the teeth or worse still a hook in the finger, we've all done them all. Enjoy it pal and keep me updated.
that's great to hear, glad you got something out of it. We need to look after our pike and ourselves, it's not always the easiest job to do. good luck with your fishing mate, hope the unhooking comes easier now.
thank you for taking care of the fish i see a lot of people not care, not lot the fish breath and you show the beauty of nature along with helping me learn how to unhook a pike
Great to hear Ian. Preparation and having all the right kit and having it near by is massive mate. Trust me, struggling to find your pliers when you have a pike thrashing around with sharp teeth and treble hooks everywhere is a nightmare. After that just be confident, spot your hooks and get your hand on the opposite side if possible, have a firm hold and just go for it. The more you do it the easier it gets, though you will still have really bad ones to deal with at times. cutters are awesome for getting you out of trouble, snip the hook points and its easy. good luck mate and if you need me you know where i am.
Excellent video; great tutorial - it's so easy to be "scared" of unhooking pike, and your video shows there's no need to be if you know what you are doing.
At Last Someone Who Treats His Catch With Respect, So Many Times I've Seen Fish Hauled Out Straight Away Onto The Bank Or Boat And Left While The Angler Then Tries To Find His Or Her's Kit, They Do Not Show The Fish Any Respect After Minutes Of Fafing Around Disgorging They Then Want To Take Photo's, The Poor Fish Is Left While They Clean Their Hands So They Can Take A Photo! I Do Hope As Many Fisher Folk See Your Tutorial And Copy Your Fine Example! I've Liked & Subscribed 10/10
Thanks buddy. Many people just don't know they are doing it wrong so with hope, they will see this and it will convince them to change their ways. Keep spreading the word mate, that's all we can do. Thanks for subscribing too, loads of videos to catch up on mate hope you enjoy.
@castleman7300fx No sure why I can't reply directly to your comment so hope you see this. Larger fish are usually easier as they thrash around less and there's loads more room to put your hand in around the gills without getting near teeth or hooks. If you get a pike that you can unhook easily, have a look closer at the pike while the hooks are out of the way then next time you can be ready for a more tricky hook up.
Always handy to know how to do it as sometimes the pike end up taking pellets, worm and all sorts of stuff not aimed at them. Glad you found it useful anyway matey, tight lines
this video should be recommended to view on any pack of pike hooks/ lures you buy in the shops. Still the best ive ever seen. Great for new starters who cant get out with an experienced angler. top job paul
cheer Drew appreciate that. I often knock up videos without any planning or thought to be honest but this is probably the only exception. I wanted to do my best so that it helps as many as possible, and then obviously that helps all the pike too. I actually put this up before a load of long time pikers on a forum and asked them to rip it to bits first, so to get their seal of approval was enough for me to be happy to use it. It has since gone on to be used by the Pike anglers Club of Great Britain who link to the video on their page. gives me a warm fuzzy glow inside. cheers bud
Thanks buddy. Not an easy one to tackle but I had to have a proper go at it. So many people need the help. Cheers for the feedback bud and thanks for sharing!
Your videos have helped me out so much. Just this year I started fishing for Northern Pike and I was a bit timid because I know they have teeth, but I have caught three average size one's and was able to safely take out the hooks and put them back in the water properly. Thank you!
Hi Katelyn. That is fantastic news and little comments like this make all the effort making videos worthwhile. I'm really happy that you have managed to catch a few pike and even better to hear you were able to deal with them safely. How did you catch the pike, were you lure fishing or bait fishing?
I'm just taking up pike fishing, I have fished for about 30 years doing the odd bit of match and fly but mainly carp, up until this video I had never seen how to safely hold a pike or how big those gnashers are, I truly appreciate the time you took to explain how, and at least I feel a little more confident in unhooking, thank you.
Thanks for the video. Just took up pike fishing on my local canal when i cant travel for barbel and this has helped me very much in handling and looking after the pike. Cheers mate.
Awsome no nonsense just informative helpful instructions. Will be out soon. I will be going with an experienced angler but it's good to know what to expect.
Hi Kevin. Plan it out in your head, make sure you have your gear with you and even set it up on the bank next to you then when you catch your pike you are prepared. Take a breath and calm your head, check where the hooks are and then set about getting a good hold. Try to be firm and confident and not flap or you can guarantee the fish will flap. good luck mate, hope you catch a few and then you'll gain in confidence unhooking also. If you need any help you know where I am.
Great video. I caught my first pike 2 days ago while fishing for carp. On retrieving my rig the pike breached the water and attacked my boily hooking it's self and by miracle didn't bite through my line. But as I've never handled a pike before it was pretty scary when you don't know how to handle it. Luckily my inexperience didn't stop me from unhooking and releasing it safely. I had seen previous vids on gripping through the Gills but wasn't 100 percent on trying this on this occasion but after watching your vids I feel much more clued up and confident. I may have a new love for pike fishing now as well as carping.
Darren that's ace mate, ha ha! It happens a few times with course anglers. They love to hit swim feeders too. Massive well done on unhooking it and not just cutting the line and chucking it back, which is what many end up doing. As for your pike in the furture, well now you have seen one up close you have a good idea what it is all about. This video will help too so that's good, and now you can put it all together and in time the confidence will grow. Practice is all you need now mate. good luck with the pike fishing mate and if you need any more help you know where I am.
Thanks so much for your time and effort. An excellent video ! Really clear and concise. After netting, i have only picked up jacks by the back of the head. So a larger fish may be easier to handle. Will give this a go soon.
Fantastic video! Very informative and to the point. I don't usually fish solely for pike however its made me so confident in how to deal with a small one or a big one safely and most importantly caring for the fish as that's what we do. Thank you 👍
Derek DeVries Thanks Derek. Tried my best to make it as easy as possible so good to know it came out well. If you need any more help you know where I am.
Just a thought paul, maybe you should have this video permanently on your Facebook page as theres always new people coming into pike fishing and this is a superb tutorial for anyone to learn from. Andy.
Awesome video, awesome and concise explanation too. I've been a witness of a old trend coming back for some reason, and that's the myth that pike is most calm and paralyzed when being handled by the eyes(!?!?!) ... It is the trend among older fisherman in my area and I tried to explain that they basically destroy any chance of catching pray again if they release that pike back into the water. But usually I just get confused and angry looks - as if fish don't feel pain and the magically get well from poked eyes :( I wish more people to see this video of yours. Keep it up!
Thanks Jamie, appreciate that pal. none of it was rehearsed either, I just did it on the spot so not easy to get everything perfect, but I felt it was one that needed to be done as i know I have plenty of new pike anglers who watch my stuff. cheers bud
Brilliant, helpful video. The kind of things I need to watch to start pike fishing. Just need to find somebody local to help me start the practical side 👍 appreciate your efforts to teach this and your great fish care.
Really helpful video my first pike had to deal with it on my own I panicked didn't know what to to but after watching this videos has helped me build my confidence n now able to handle pike safely
My first, all be it years ago was exactly the same Darren. You don't mean to catch one and then when you do it's not exactly easy. I can remember doing all sorts of things wrong but I figured it out with practice. You've seen one and dealt with one up close now, you've watched a video and some of the stuff will sink in for next time. It'll get easier with more practice. Keep at them bud and good luck!
Absolutely fantastic tutorial, I'm normally a fly fisherman for game fish but have recently started lure fishing for perch. Now I'm looking to target a nice pike but the worry about how exactly to handle them has held me back..... After watching this I feel much more confident about it. PS Hi from Ireland
Hi Darren. Good to hear it helps. Just remember to have all your gear where you know where it is then when you do catch a pike leave it in the net while you sort your head out. Good luck matey
Very helpful video. It actually came in very useful as my first pike was awkwardly hooked so ended up having to go through the gills to unhook the fish. Thanks for showing how to do this - I felt fairly confident after watching this and unhooked it with no issues - thanks!
+andrew lloyd cheers Andrew. Yeah me too that's why I had a go at this to do my bit to help people. Video audience is growing so that can only be a good thing. cheers
Hi, took up pike fishing last week, watched your videos, great information, really helpful. Caught one, about 3 feet long, not sure about the weight, but found your instructions really made it less stressful, both for me and the fish. Cheers
Hi Philip. Welcome to pike fishing mate, they're a magical creature, you're going to love them. Glad the video helped mate, that's what it's there for so to hear it did is worth the effort. You're in a bit of a flap with all those teeth and hooks but having the gear set up already, or at least well organised is key. It gets easier the more fish you catch but always keep your guard up as disaster is only a head shake away. Great to hear you are off the mark. Don't worry about the weight too much but a good set of scales will sort that out next time. Good luck with your piking mate and keep me updated how you get on.
Thanks, nice to talk to you, I'll try and absorb the information in your videos and will keep you posted. Went out today on the River Weaver, but drew a blank, ah well, you can't win 'em all. I'll keep watching and persevering. Cheers mate
It's not always as easy as the videos suggest, for me too, so keep at it. Get out and find some locations but keep them to yourself if you find them as there's not always too many to go around. Keep in mind this time of year might be for piking, but it is also hard at times. Little and often is the key, both to give you a chance of getting lucky and also as not to grind you in to the ground with long hard days. Good luck mate.
River Piker Hi, went out again last Thursday, spent what seemed a lifetime casting, thought i'd just drop the lure straight at my feet as you never know. Bang! another one bites the dust (and lure) a two-footer and used my scales this time to weigh it in at 8lbs. I'm getting there, thanks again mate for the encouragement and time taken to reply to my posts.
Philip Rowe Nice one Philip. As you found out, always watch out right below your feet. Most people walk up to the bank, 6inch from the water and then try to cast to the far side scaring everything off in front of them. Instead, stay 6 foot back, out of sight and cast out and fish the bit of water right in front of you first. If you were on the far bank you'd swear there would be a pike in this spot and try to hit it wouldn't you? Good to see the fish are coming mate, it helps knowing you are doing something right. So you know from that fish, there's a good chance the other was a double. Not to worry that you don't know exactly how big as you'll have another nice fish before long I bet you. Keep enjoying it, the more lures you throw about the more spectacular stuff you are going to witness.
Hi River piker, so went out on Friday with my son for some lure fishing but no show pike or perch, i do need to get an arsenal of spinners and lures to ring the changes as i only have 4! we had the waggler out though inbetween and had plenty silvers. weather very nice and sunny and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
You caught some fish John so thats the main thing. Must be some predators about if the silvers are there. Don't get too many lures just make sure you have variety of types. All good fun learning and when the fish come its even better.
Nice one John, glad it helps mate. Just be prepared with your gear and thats a big help. It gets easier in time with more practice too, good luck buddy
Great video, awesome advice you give about putting back in the water to catch it's breath then try again. Got to have a net with you all the time, fishing with lures it's best to have a rubber one I think.
cheers Jimmy. Yeah the rubber ones help as it's a bit easier to get the hooks out. Also a good size net helps the fish have a bit of room to settle down.
Thanks for the video, it's the best instructional video I've seen on youtube and is a great help to someone like myself who's never caught a pike before. I can now hopefully find someone experienced to take me out piking.
Matthew Tanner Thanks Matthew. Great to hear it's helped you. Can't beat being shown up close and then it's just practice that breeds confidence. Good luck mate and I'm here if you need anything else.

@@riverpiker Thanks River Piker. I've just filmed a programme for BBC they took me to try and catch my first pike (Comes out next spring) I failed to catch on the day because they'd had pollution on the canal I was taken to and the fish had been netted but nobody was told. We later found some perch and had a good hour or so full of them. My friends have just taken me to the cotswold water park where eventually I did catch my first pike only a small jack but it was the fishing itself I found the most exciting. Absolutely fantastic watching pike coming in for lures.....I'm well and truly hooked now. Thanks to this video I had the confidence to ask if I could unhook my fish, my mate told me I'd be better off watching the first one but I'm happy to say I now feel sure I can do it myself. Thanks for giving me that confidence. "Gone fishing with Will Millard" I think the programme's called but I was told the title could change.
mate that's ace, you'll be famous as chuff!! Pity the fishing wasn't good but seems like you got that sorted not long after. big congrats on the first one mate, plenty more to come now. Good to hear you enjoy it mate, it's a proper buzz when you see those pike coming at your lure. There's more to this than just catching the fish. tight lines buddy
@@riverpiker Thanks, I think my highlight was watching a pike follow right under the rod tip "I slowed the retrieve, he took it and I pulled the lure straight out of his mouth" Brilliant!! He deserved his freedom that one. Now I just need to find a lake full of pike near to me in Mid Wales, I have the Wye on my doorstep and the upper Wye is rarely fished for pike "everyone tends to go lower down". Nothing like a stretch of river to yourself though.
Great tutorial mate, been watching tons on pike care and how to unhook them as i've yet to catch my first but needed to get it embeded in my brain first! i will only be using lures and spinners and hooks will be barbless. Going out tommorrow for a try! keep up the great work dude!
Hey John. That's all you can do pal. Be prepared. It helps if someone is with you but plenty of people, me included, learn the hard way. Lures with one hook, especially a single and/or barb less will make it so much easier. Have your gear ready before you start fishing so when you are in a flap you can get the tools you need. Be confident and get a nice solid hold, without trying to rip it's jaw off, and just do it quickly. Good luck pal, hope you catch a pike and if you do let me know how it goes.
River Piker It does help,i am interested in doing some lure spin fishing but i am a total novice with no experience,i have just bought all the gear for it,i want to fish for trout ,perch etc but i was worried about ending up with a pike on the end of it and not knowing how to deal with it without damaging the fish,i would of not had a clue without watching this vid.And now i know i need to get a set of long nose plyers.
Great to hear you're giving it a go. Great fun fishing with small lures for all sorts of predators that fight like mad on the light gear. with smaller hooks on the small lures it's not so much a problem but I always take a good set of long nosed pliers. Forceps are good but not a strong so if using bigger hooks you can't always get the hooks out. If there are pike in your waters and you use lures it's only a mater of time before you catch a pike so get tooled up. Tight lines pal and keep me updated how you go.
River Piker Latest update,i did my first bit of lure fishing today on a size one gold mepps spinner on the river Irwell in manchester and caught nowt, mind you as i was packing up some bloke told me i won't catch sweet FA in that stretch of river as its too polluted,he recommended the bridgewater canal,so im gonna try that tommorow.
Your a very good fisherman!!! I learned SOO MUCH from this video! very good technique, I cant wait to use these techniques to safely remove hooks from a pike's mouth!! :) Again GREAT VIDEO!
+Jon Fisher Hi Jon. good to know that helps mate. Can't beat getting out with someone experienced but at least this gives you a good start. There will be a few cuts along the way, a bit of raker rash but you'll get there mate. Tight lines mate
Thanks matey. hope it was useful to you mate. Best thing I can do to help other than get out and fish with everyone, which i can't quite find the time for lol. if you need any more help you know where i am.
The second or third pike I had to unhook was a deep hooked 2lb Pike, that was tricky. You're absolutely right, put it back in the water and let it breath before you do anything - that way I had longer to unhook it safely rather than starving it of oxygen. Also, forceps can be very helpful, because if you get a little jack big pillars can be pretty hard to use. Take some smaller pillars or forceps if too if you can, I just take a multi tool with some smaller pillars on as well as my bigger pillars.
It's a tough one, because when you put them back for a rest they then come out full of energy which doesn't help you. But no point leaving the fish out too long and then putting it back dead is there? So you have to rest it, give the fish a chance especially when it might have just been fighting like mad before hand. good selection of tools helps get you through those awkward hooks ups. The pliers with the bent nose are really good too as they help you turn the hooks out if they are deep down.
Great video. I've watched this several times and I still let my cousin unhook 90% of my pike for the good of the fish. He's teaching me well and soon I'll be confident enough. Definitely looks easier on the bank with a mat rather than on a boat with limited space. Hopefully I'll be ready for next season!
cheers Len. So many things you can get wrong and slightly different opinions on some things but I'm happy I got it right. This video has helped loads of new starters so i'm really happy about that. Cheers for the feedback pal, it's much appreciated.
+Fishy Frags thanks buddy, glad it helped you. Not the easiest thing making a unhooking video and neither is tackling pike on your first go. Good luck with your fishing pal and if you need any help you know where I am.
Some good, sound advice there. Especially when you said,go with someone who knows what they`re doing..............common sense really. Good instructional video.
No problem mate. Worth knowing as when the first one comes, it's a bit of a scary task. Also some people think that because they are predators you can treat them badly and they will be fine but that's just not the case. What species do you usually go for?
Thank you for this. Had a pike hooked deep and I’m a novice fisher so I ended up having to keep it unfortunately due to internal damage of trying to get the hook out.
Caught my first pike today mate only on the small side, I normally sea fish so pike are a new species to me I was shocked at how strong they are! I reckon the one I caught was about 4-6lb but god was it strong to handle lol, the video was a really helpful! I have some glazing gloves I'm going to take next time to give me abit more confidence handling the fish cause those teeth would make a real mess of your hand! Great vid keep it up mate👍🏻
Hey Kris that's great to hear mate, well done on your first of many. They can be a struggle to handle, especially the ones from 1-10lb can be a nightmare. The bigger ones are stronger but tend to not flap about so much, though when they do you need to hang on! lol. Hope the video helped anyway, use this and your experience and next time you will improve again and in time you will be much more confident. Good luck and tight lines mate
I'm a member of the PAC :d I also fish on the lancaster canal regularly but i have no had any pike bites but i'll keep trying. Been out there for 4 hours a week for a few weeks now :) Tried different locations, no catches but beautiful place nevertheless
I know they are in there mate so i'm sure it's just a matter of time. May be someone at your local PAC would be able to help you as a few will fish that canal. Worth going to a meeting or contacting someone i'd suggest.
I used to fish tewitfield marina and ive had some right Corker's in the past, there's a a water pipe that is to a still towards kendal and it holds lots of fish so lots of prey, quite heavy fished but in a very good chance of getting a bite matey

actually there is background music :D but he did it right ...
Very helpful thanks. Can be a bit daunting for a novice especially if the hooks are deep
Yes a caught a couple today that completely swallowed the hooks and a barely got it out without them dying
And still the best pike unhooking/care video there is on TH-cam 👍🏻
Excellent video. I tend to be put off fishing for pike because of the stress and fear (for both the pike and me!) around the whole unhooking process. I've read about getting your hand in through the gill covers but seeing it demonstrated so well here really helps. Good stuff! :-)

My dad and brother hates pike, but they still throw it back in the water or let it unhook itself.
I learned a lot watching this video. I appreciate you taking your time and instructing the safe way to handle a large pike for both me and the fish.
that's great to hear, glad you got something out of it. We need to look after our pike and ourselves, it's not always the easiest job to do. good luck with your fishing mate, hope the unhooking comes easier now.
thank you for taking care of the fish i see a lot of people not care, not lot the fish breath and you show the beauty of nature along with helping me learn how to unhook a pike
really appreciate this, great video and about to start pike fishing for the first time so this has really helped. thanks :)
Great video thanks mate. I've never fished for one yet but when I do I'll remember that!
It has since gone on to be used by the Pike anglers Club of Great Britain who link to the video on their page. gives me a warm fuzzy glow inside. cheers bud
+River Piker Yeah. Definately one to be proud of. Cheers mate.
Thanks for this clear informative video . Some great basic hints . Learned a lot
Probably the best I have seen on the subject. I often recommend it on various forums. Well done guys.
Thats good to hear matey, thats what it is here for. Good luck with you piking mate and enjoy.
Awsome no nonsense just informative helpful instructions. Will be out soon. I will be going with an experienced angler but it's good to know what to expect.
Good luck Sean. Good to hear you are getting out with someone more experienced but seeing this video will help you also.
Ive recently been doing a lot of pike fishing and had the basic idea of dehooking this video gave me reassurance I was doing the right thing. Thanks
Thanks for this, first video I've watched on unhooking as planning on catching a few this year
Thanks ! Very instructional and useful.
Awesome filming, angles and visibility.
Glad you liked it! Not easy to do it all on my own but needed to try and show people how to do it. thanks buddy
very professionally handled and great tips, thank you
laiyenma thanks, I hope it helps! Tight lines.
Thank you 👍
Cheers mate, literally just hooked my first big pike and was able to look this up instantly and get him unhooked and released back safely!! 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Nicely done. Very informative and excellent handling of the fish.
thanks Johnny
Nice refresher course for me, I haven't been pike fishing for a few years, cheers!
This was so helpful - easily the best video on proper handling of pike. Thanks!
Andy.
Very helpful, thanks. Especially the view into the mouth showing where the fingers go.
Good to hear that David, hope it helps you mate. Tight lines pal
But usually I just get confused and angry looks - as if fish don't feel pain and the magically get well from poked eyes :(
I wish more people to see this video of yours. Keep it up!
one of the best videos I've seen on unhooking pike! top video
Thanks Jamie, appreciate that pal. none of it was rehearsed either, I just did it on the spot so not easy to get everything perfect, but I felt it was one that needed to be done as i know I have plenty of new pike anglers who watch my stuff. cheers bud
Great video, and fish care. Thank you.
Brilliant, helpful video. The kind of things I need to watch to start pike fishing. Just need to find somebody local to help me start the practical side 👍 appreciate your efforts to teach this and your great fish care.
Brilliant video, thank you. I now have the confidence to fish for Pike.
hey buddy thats great to hear. Confidence comes with practice so keep enjoying it and you will get there buddy. tight lines.
@@riverpiker Thanks again!
Thanks for showing how to do this - I felt fairly confident after watching this and unhooked it with no issues - thanks!
great video people need to watch these I have witnessed too many people handling these fish wrong
Philip Rowe
Nice one Philip.
Fantastic advice and thanks for your kind upload
Great video mate very good and informative
thanks buddy
Superb thanks for taking the time out to post this for newbies like me
Cheers Scott hope it helps mate.
Really helpful video , iv just started pike fishing so after watching this I feel confident de-hooking the pike il catch , thanks mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice one John, glad it helps mate. Just be prepared with your gear and thats a big help. It gets easier in time with more practice too, good luck buddy
This is a very good and helpful video. Thank you so much.
We do exactly the same in the Netherlands!
Is again a nice informative video!
Good to hear mate. Catch and release and then catch it again when it's bigger! cheers
River Piker
Catch and release! 100%
Great Video Still very helpful in 2016
+Cole Spiring cheers Cole.
and now in 2017!!! :)
Cheers! nice one, i will do.
Great tutorial mate always important to handle them with care 👍👍
Very professional,im glad i watched this for future reference.
Johnny Fartpants Thanks Johnny. Not the easiest thing to do so knowing how and being organised is key. Hope it helps you matey.
River Piker Thanks for the advice and i will keep you updated, ive done some homework on it all so i should be ok,ill keep you updated, thanks!
Niice video I love Pike fishing and one thing I have never seen someone use is the mat but that's a great idea cheers to the gator hunters
Thanks for the video, very informative and I will take this knowledge to the bank 👍🏻
Really helpful thanks
Good to hear mate enjoy your fishing
Great tutorial video, thanks for making it
cheers bud, hope it helps
Great video. You're a gentleman. Thank you.
Fantastic tutorial. thank you so much!! 👍👍
Thanks matey. hope it was useful to you mate. Best thing I can do to help other than get out and fish with everyone, which i can't quite find the time for lol. if you need any more help you know where i am.
I loved this mate!!Cracking little tips..Love the work.
cheers pal. hope the tips help mate and cheers for watching!
River Piker 100%, Agreed
Great video, Thank you!
Liv Pudney Thanks Liv, my pleasure. Hope it helps.
been out of the know for 3 years its good to refresh my mind ;) thanks.
Nice video with excelent informations.
Great video. I've watched this several times and I still let my cousin unhook 90% of my pike for the good of the fish. He's teaching me well and soon I'll be confident enough. Definitely looks easier on the bank with a mat rather than on a boat with limited space. Hopefully I'll be ready for next season!
Well put together video sir, no better compliment I can give.
cheers Len. So many things you can get wrong and slightly different opinions on some things but I'm happy I got it right. This video has helped loads of new starters so i'm really happy about that. Cheers for the feedback pal, it's much appreciated.
Really good, informative video 👍
+Fishy Frags thanks buddy, glad it helped you. Not the easiest thing making a unhooking video and neither is tackling pike on your first go. Good luck with your fishing pal and if you need any help you know where I am.
Excellent video.
Thank you for the video I learned a lot from it
Still best pike unhooking video on youtube
Cheers mate this really helped
Good to hear Dylan.
Awesome vid thx bro very simple and very well detailed
Wayne Andrews Thanks Wayne, hope it helps mate.
Some good, sound advice there. Especially when you said,go with someone who knows what they`re doing..............common sense really.
Good instructional video.
Thanks Nick. So much easier with someone who knows. When you get your first and you don't know it's a scary time, teeth and hooks everywhere.
Good advice mate, keep the videos up!
Great vid!! Thanks for posting.
+dbsean cheers pal, my pleasure!
Good tutorial thanks
cheers Graham, hope it was useful.
very good video and fisherman!
Thx for teaching me!
Awesome video thanks!!
Thanks. Want to start going for pike and my main concern was the teeth
Helped me lots.
Great video and very nicely explained for a Yorkshire man.
#Derbyshire.
ha ha cheers buddy ;)
Great stuff, very informative well presented.
I don't target Northern Pike but good information to know in case of an accidental hookup (it will happen!). Thanks for sharing
Brilliant vid cheers brother
I’m going fishing tomorrow for pike for the first time on my own hope I’ll be ok this video helped lots thanks
Good luck! Just remember to have your tools close by and leave the pike in the net while you sort your head out.
River Piker thanks
Good luck and tight lines mate
excellent video!
cheers Phil
Great video!
How common is it to be cut or injured yourself whilst handling and unhooking a pike? I’m about to go piking for the first time next week.
Great video!
Very good upload.
