Much can be said of this track, but is there a better example than Equator for an off-beat pop-tune to discuss such serious subjects as the circular redundancy of logic? Often tops my list of favorite Sparks songs. That little stammer at 5:05 during that furious litany of Russell rapidly repeating that single word “Equator!”, totally wins me over, almost always. (p.s.) I sampled this track as a ringtone, too. Again, the same confused looks -😳- from the public at-large”. 🙄 Great discussion, one. of the best!
That was hilarious watching you guys faces. Its a love it ot hate it track. I'm surprised it was well received. I expected you guys to slate it. It is overstretched ending but it is a part of this great album. Thanks for this slbum review, was brilliant. 👌👏😁
Thanks for following us and glad you liked it! Two B-sides coming up as well. We plan to do Propagada soon. We didn't manage to do it December, but hope to get to it soon.
This would be a great to do live with a full brass section and a band with the ability to jam over the endlessly repeated chorus at the end. It is superb last song on an incredible album that I am still playing 50 years later. It also still sounds fresh.
We realized after we recorded this episode that they did great live versions of this in 2015 with an orchestra. Not a full brass section, but still some great versions, 7-9 minutes long. A great example here: th-cam.com/video/UoxGTNvrCYg/w-d-xo.html

Yes!
An exquisite finale to a superb album, this might be the only time you will ever hear a sax solo played on a mellotron! 😮

I really like Equator it's a great way to close this album. Barbecutie and Lost And Found are super B sides .
