Hendrick: _dips in performance one year and then wins 2 titles three years later…_
Roush still sucking: *_“I wish for what they have…”_*
Lets be real though, from mid 2015 to early to mid 2020, they were still way off (and yes, that includes Johnson's 2016 season. At the time it was his worst ever statistical season). 2018 was just the lowest of lows.
@@jacobevenson8702 Their last 2 statistical championships are 2014 and 2021. So definitely were off for awhile.
The chase helped them in 16 and 20 get wins they didn't deserve.
Roush basically got robbed by JGR. They lost Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and even a sponsor like Subway jumped ship. DeWalt even came back to Matt Kenseth ffs.
Imagine losing 2 of the best drivers and their sponsors to a team where they would not even be the main attraction. (At the end of the day, JGR are first and foremost Busch/Hamlin's team). That hurts.
If there's one team that can relearn, adapt, strengthen their way back to the top of the Cup teams in that short amount of time, it's Hendrick Motorsports.
I remember an Eric Estepp video talking about how Hendrick may cut down to 3 cars if they couldn’t find speed… So glad that didn’t happen
Yea I remember that also, but lets not forget most of his predictions never age well, especially HMS peaking too soon video.
@@aldouscoroza they're people just like us, expressing their opinions. No need to hate on them LOL. Also don't forget that Larson was signed almost at the end of 2020. What makes you think that the downsizing wasn't gonna happen in case of another sub-par season?
That never made sense. HMS and Stewart Haas would make more money running four cars than three, even if one was unsponsored, because of the charter system.
That Lowe’s for Pros scheme is the most cursed car in NASCAR history.
What made this even sadder is that this was probably one of the best paint scheme line ups that Hendrick Motorsports ever had in my opinion for all 4 cars, and we only got to see the 9 in victory lane.
As a Hendrick fan, I’ll never forgive all the losers who were claiming that “Hendrick and Chevy are dead” during this time
Had a Johnson fan tell me that Hendrick would turn into Roush by 2020. Never forget it
@@troytheboy9144 don't worry hendrick motorsports won back 2 back championship
yeah just makes us Hendrick guys that stuck together through tough times more sweet
It's crazy how not to long ago everyone was considering HMS the new Roush and Was always behind SHR JGR and Penske during 2018 and 2019 fast forward to 2021.. two Consecutive titles for HMS
Yeah Chase won the title but I wouldn't say HMS as a whole was good that year. This year tho? Oh boy 👀
@@JJ_R3ACH it worked out good for HMS having JJ as a mentor for the young drivers in the twilight of his career then when the young drivers were matured, JJ retired and Kyle Larson took over and did great things already
2018 was one of the awful years for NASCAR as a whole. The ratings were so down and half the races were boring. On the flipside, you had a bunch of content creators starting things together.
Huh it's almost like the low downforce high horsepower package produced boring racing, and ratings have slightly improved since the introduction of the 550 package that everyone seems to hate.

Bad Seasons: Hendrick Motorsports 2018
@@NASCARFAN93100 they were better than 2018, but still rubbish
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Yeah they had more wins in 2019 than in 2018 But based on the fact that no driver from Hendrick Motorsports had more than 15 Top 10s and Finished no better than 10th in Points
2019 was arguably worse than 2018
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Yeah. But Despite The 2018 NASCAR Season Was Horrible, The Chevrolet Camaro Was Awesome.

@@Jose-Gomez even if it had a better package, those Camaro’s from 2018-2019 would still be garbage
As a Hendrick fan from when I got into racing in the early 2000s I am happy to see this season and last were bounce backs from 2018 and 2017
This is the season us Jimmie fans wished never existed. 😢
I read this as
"This is the season us fans wish Jimmie never existed" 💀
Calling William Byron a bust immediately after an Xfinity Series championship is an absolute crime.
Changing of the guard. Byron isn't Gordon, Bowman isn't Dale JR. (at the time), call them busts while never giving the new drivers a chance to prove themselves. Chase just bloomed into greatness before the others which is why he was the fan favorite going into 2021. Of course 2021 speaks for itself. Hendrick has re-established the power house, Byron and Bowman just needed to find their footing (which they did this year. Sans next gen car major issues definitely champ contenders next year).
@DEIFAN Yeah.
William Byron. - 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Champion.
And Alex Bowman. - 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Champion.
But, Chase Elliott And Kyle Larson, Has 1 Championship.
3 wins this season in 11 races and 4th in points think he’s doing okay
“Sometimes a team has to be really bad before they can be really good”
SHR: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
All I'm reminded of is how good all the paint schenes were in 2018, not even just Hendrick. Peak year for car designs in NASCAR
10:57 "I know Liberty's athletic teams are called the Flames, but this is taking it a little too literally."
Championship Seasons: Jimmie Johnson 2007
Gone Too Soon: John Nemechek
Bad Seasons: Andy Houston 2001
Bad Seasons: Ron Hornaday 2001
I'd say 2000 was BAD:
24 - Gordon (struggled for a good bit despite winning a couple, but the Richmond penalty tainted it)
5 - T. Labonte (less be said, the better)
25 - Nadeau (yeah he won at Atlanta, but it was such a meh year otherwise)
2018-2020 really was where HMS struggled a lot. HMS is a powerhouse organization who prides itself on winning and winning a ton. There was a time where everyone was questioning HMS and what was wrong with them. Glad to see them back to championship form this year and in dominating fashion.
I wouldn’t put 2020 in that category, HMS did walk away with the championship and was strong almost all year (minus JJ)
You forgot to mention the Vegas spring race where Cole Custer (driving a Rick Ware car) beat William Byron on speed alone.
I don't know why, but I knew from the day that I saw that 2018 Johnson scheme, it was gonna be a terrible season.
I've got to be honest though, in my opinion, not just Hendrick Motorsports sucked, the whole 2018 season sucked with not many drivers winning (just the same 3 drivers winning over and over again) and a Mickey champion thanks to NASCAR's drunk points format
I would like to talk to the guy who wrote the play off format while on crack
That season was really hard for us Hendrick fans! But it’s been all uphill since Chase’s W at The Glen that summer!
Maybe in retrospect the 2018 season was a changing of the guard moment for Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Junior having retired and Jimmy Johnson ultimately having the first of 3 winless seasons in a row before retiring himself and both Chase Elliott and William Byron forming what we recognise nowadays
When people called Byron a bust, the don't know what that even is. A bust does completly terrible in all series they raced in, like Danica Patrick.
Elliott grabbed the reigns and steered HMS back in the right direction and this year Larson jumped on the wagon, took the reigns, and took HMS back to the dominant ways they’re used to. None of Larson, Elliott, Bowman or Byron are even close to their ceiling either. Scary times for the competition.
The team won 3 races. In 1990 Hendrick Motorsports had only 1 win and their star driver was injured in a crash at Daytona.
Good stuff! You're quickly becoming one of my favorite NASCAR TH-camrs!
SHR: that’s nothing watch this
Just happy they've bounced back
1:05 I love how Danica just lost it before the crash
Besides JJs bad season and an awful primary scheme he had some really cool schemes at homestead Charlotte and darlington
I really miss the 25 car.. as an 8 year old seeing Tim Richmond kick ass during the ‘86 season is what got me into watching Nascar in the first place
Been their fan since 94. I never expected them to have consistently amazing top tier seasons. It was bound for them to have a sticker or so, and now they’re back on top.
Wish Willys first win was in the flame scheme.
His Daytona win was fitting though. He is is strong superspeedway racer.
As a Hendrick fan, this videos is just pain lol
2021 was virtually the exact opposite of 2018 for Hendrick Motorsports and Stewart Haas Racing
Future uploads: Good Seasons: Austin Cindric 2021 and Championship Seasons: Daniel Hemric 2021.
Man I forgot just how shitty that year was for Jimmie. Thanks for bringing up 3 year old trauma
Nobody:
🅱️rad keselowski: bad blocks
I think 2010 is contender for this as well. Mark and Dale missed the chase while going winless. Jeff should have won more then once but went winless. 2010 championship kinda of just fell into Jimmies lap.
2:18 - The Bump of Anger
Everyone Looks at SHR's 2021 season
So, when Hendrick unveiled their 2018 cars, i believe Chase had his old man Bill with him, Byron was paired with Jeff Gordon because of number 24, and Rick himself was with Jimmie, but who was with Alex?
Those last few years were pure pain as a Johnson fan
I became a fan of Hendrick in late 2017/Early 2018. Pain man
What a bad year for Hendricks, also couldn’t find speed in the cars, the struggle was real for the chevy fans!
All the wrecks Johnson was in was unreal that year!!!
I always enjoy your videos. WFM
They still won 3 races
1:43 that’s the exact drum beat from demolition derby arenas wow
Seeing Jimmie go out the way he did just hurt. One of the most classy drivers and to see him just lose it in a year was hard to watch. Wish he could've won that 8th championship but he'll always be one of the most dominant drivers ever.
If Hendrick Motorsports worse season was a full rebuild season and still had 2 out of 4 drivers make the playoffs I think they still did alright. Just not to the Hendrick standards.
I remember people saying Hendrick Motorsports was going downhill 🤣
Elloiit was the only 1 to get a win
Hopefully you’ll do:
The Worst Stewart Haas Racing season (2021)
The Worst RCR Season (2009)
Not a Bust: Brian Scott (Trucks and Xfinity (sure he didn’t have wins at Xfinity but he’s got impressive Top 10s))
HMS that season was so painful to watch and also I think the camero for that year was not good. From that low point HMS and Camero inproved and greatly cam back 2019 forward with 2021 as the dominate team to beat
I may not like nbc, but I love their enthusiasm lmao
Honestly this year was even worse than 2020 for me. It was Absolute torture.
Bad Seasons:
SHR (2021)
RCR (2009)
Roush Racing (2015-2016)
JGR (2011)
The worst Rick Ware Racing seas- OH WAIT!
Even if they were terrible in 2018. They we’re STILL better than Stewart Haas was this season and STILL scored more wins than SHR in 2021. Stewart Haas only got a win this year because the garbage officiating manipulated the outcome of the race TWICE just so they can make the cut line battle “exciting.” They didn’t bother throwing the caution out for rain and they knew Bell was going to win so they had to shorten the race all because the windows were darker than the light outside. And then Almirola went 13 straight races without a top 13 finish. Truly an accomplishment.
Dude thank you so much Darian for being real and honest you didn't quite say Jimmy got scared but you did honestly admit that his downfall started with the Pocono crash you did admit that thank you so much. I've been saying for years now Jimmy got scared he hit the wall Pocono and got scared I've been saying it for years people think I'm stupid or crazy but no he won the 16 title and then comes back strong in the beginning of 17 has three wins he's up in points he's doing good breaks felt Pocono wax the wall boom never wins again never contends again thank you so much for being honest.
I'd vote for 1987 as their worst year. Three full time drivers only had one win between them, and that one almost didn't happen. Geoff Bodine and Benny Parsons didn't even crack the top ten in points being regularly out performed by Ken Schrader and Dave Marcis both in highly underfunded cars.
Tim Richmond had two wins and eight starts and a smattering of other drivers proved unsuccessful.
For JJ, it was mostly made worse by Chad Knaus. Anyone who listened to their radio week after week, for whatever reason Chad REFUSED to make the adjustments JJ wanted. Just flat out refused 100%. The only exception was a few times where he did the changes JJ wanted, and surprise surprise, JJ picked up speed. IDK wtf was with Chad that year, but it was bullshit to say the least!
Chase hated it for his guys a lot that season
Nice looking cars lol.
When Gordo retired I took a 5 year hiatus.
Back now
Sticking with Hendrix drivers though, hoping Elliot recovers from his leg and Byron has a break out year.
@@haxingorPOL what the actual fuck are you talking about?
What do my likes have anything to with anything.... Not like it was a fucking statement.... I still like those drivers....
@@haxingorPOL funny Elliot did recover from his leg, Willy B is tied for first going into round 1... Again wtf are you talking about.
TBH I'd argue 2019 as Hendrick Motorsports' Worst Season
Even though they had more wins and while Alex Bowman and William Byron improved greatly from the year prior Chase Elliott's 2019 season wasn't as fruitful by his standards while he scored the same amount of wins (3) and the same amount of Top 5s (11) the year prior 2018 He had 6 less Top 10s and an Average finish 3 positions worse
Not to mention he had 6 DNFs in 2019 Half of which were last place finishes
And for Jimmie Johnson 2019 is his worst season on Average
Team Hendricks struggling back in 2018? As a Penske fans and SHR fans I enjoy watching them struggles 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
2018 is the best Season for Ford, First On Race Day baby!
I blame the game cover curse lol for that year NH3
It's wild because I got my girlfriend to start watching NASCAR with me that season and she really got into it in 2019. She only knows Jimmie Johnson as some guy who finishes in the back of the pack instead of a living legend because she's never seen him win.
I’m gonna say my suggestions again
Nascar Busts: Micheal Annett
Bad Seasons: Kevin Harvick 2021
Good Seasons: Michael McDowell 2021 ( yes it sounds stupid but for FRM equipment McDowell had an incredible season in my eyes)
Gone To Soon: Justin Wilson
Gone To Soon: Rodney Orr
Is William Byron isn't a bust but he'd be like a 4th round pick
Bad luck seasons: Byron 2021
7:06 if Johnson turns up, he collects Almirola, who doesn't win that race
You should do a bust video on NASCAR 21 Ignition
I personally blame the garbage original Chevy Camaro and Jimmie Johnson’s ugly Lowe’s for Pros for this (not only the paint scheme is so painfully ugly to look at, 3 years later…. But I feel like this scheme was a curse too. Idk why)
Chase Elliott did save them which was luckily
This is becoming the era of Gibbs vs Hendrick at the moment in my opinion
My predictions:
Alex Bowman will be the 2022 Cup Series champion and William Byron the 23 one.
Alex Bowman is plausible, so long as he can get the consistency down. However, I personally don't see reaching the top of the sport within the next 2 years.
@@JohnSmith-mk5jt See who? Byron? Yeah, me neither, but after 2010, who would have guessed Brad Keselowski to be champ two years later?
@@JohnSmith-mk5jt Next year I see Alex, Chase and Kyle all making the Final 4
Why do you hurt me like this? 😭😭
I'd love to know what exactly Hendrick did to turn the team around after this season...Or was it the young drivers just finally got enough seat time to be more competitive?
Adjust to the car, drivers getting more seat time, and the biggest thing of all, Rick Hendrick not being happy and willing to do what it takes to get back to the top. I have heard several different Hendrick employees talk about how Mr.H would be in their Monday meetings, on the garage floor, and around the shop asking the folks what he could do to help them do their job better and what adjustments needed to be made.
I find it funny that xfinty has a problem after the season ended
This season made me hate the Camaro with a passion. I am okay with it now because they fixed the nose but that first year was awful.
2:31 I was there
If only this could happen again.
Yup Yup, 2018 was the Worst Season Ever for HMS. As an HMS fan, the Problem was with the Camaro, it was one Factor that lead to the Drop in performance
Jr was crap after the concussion, but like it mattered because he made more money selling Mt Dew than he ever did racing.
One thing I always thought was Jimmie Johnson for years even though he was so good he was always so lucky aoll the time eventually he was gonna get a massive run of bad luck as well
Wonder if Denny leaves JGR and Kyle leaves to pursue him a own team. Will there be a rebrand for Joe Gibbs?
Pretty funny that hendrick's worst season was also their most hyped up season
I want the 88 car back on the track, but not on a Hendrick car though
Byron and Bowman had brilliant 2021 Rookie seasons
Not only that, most of there paint schemes sucked!
Mainly Jimmies
It wasn’t just HMS, it was every Chevrolet team. None of them seemed to adapt to the Chevy Camaro body, which let to Ford and Toyota winning all but 4 races.
With Chase winning three of those four races😂
To be fair, HMS is the only truly good Chevy team lol
Kyle Larson won like 10 races didn’t he
@@cowlover24 The one Chase didn't win was Austin Dillon claiming the Daytona 500 season opener. Luckily for me Joey Logano brought the Cup title on the driver's aspect back to an American manufacturer after Truex won 2017 as a Toyota driver
