Break fast. The 1st meal of the day, anytime of day. But then, in your case, looking at all the calories on that table, I'd say, some kind of (blunder) B-Lun-D-er. 15 L H2O->33 lbs plus the container weight so that _would_ be uncomfortable carrying the jug that way, Sir.
Those boards with coloured paper flowers and wordings (unique to Sumatera and maybe other parts of Indonesia as well) messages of condolence for a family that lost a loved one in that lane. Those boards are also made for other occasions like Birthdays, Weddings and others.
The string on the kites is covered with powdered glass. The idea being to swoop down on opposition kites and cut their string. Used to do it as a kid in Jakarta. Great fun!
That seems to be a large theme of my life. I think of it a bit like the Seinfeld/Curb Your Enthusiasm perspective. There are the BIG things in life, and everyone talks about those. But, as you said, these very small things can provide so much pleasure and also so much frustration. I'm currently staying in a simple low-budget type of hotel, and there is nothing in the bathroom at all. There isn't a single hook, towel rack, soap dish, shelf, mirror, or anything. I end up constantly raving about hooks. I love hooks so much. 😀 It costs nothing to put a simple hook or two on the door. And just those hooks can make such a difference to the customer experience. As it is now, there's nowhere to put anything. I have to put all my toiletries on the wet floor, and try to keep it all from falling into the squat toilet or get soaked. And there is nowhere to hang a towel. It's a small thing, but after a day or two, it starts to drive you nuts. The hotel could take two minutes and screw a couple of hooks into every bathroom door and stick a simple soap dish on the wall, and the room would be vastly improved. I never understand why they don't do things like that.
I had this problem in Thailand with a guesthouse. They told me they had cancelled their listing at Agoda, but Agoda always puts their guesthouse listing back.
Yes, I thought it was quite amusing. You turn on the faucet in one place and the water comes out somewhere else. 😀 It was like a puzzle that you had to solve.
It's good that you left a review about the Oyo on Google. I can't believe they let people stay in that room. I suppose that if there weren't cockroaches that would be considered a bonus.
I think now I might have been a bit harsh in my review. 😀 I don't really care about bathrooms that smell or towels that are just rags or sinks and faucets and showers that don't work or nasty pipes dripping onto places. For me, that's just a normal hotel room. For places I routinely stayed in in the past, I would be lucky to even have a bathroom. I'd be grateful if there was water at all. I didn't care where it came from. But I know that these days, standards are higher, and people that might peruse hotel reviews on Google Maps probably are looking for better conditions than are to be found at the B'rasco. So I listed some of the negative qualities of the room on top of the whole issue with the Agoda bait and switch. 😀
That food looks delicious! What kind of language they speak there and how does it sounds ? With the knee issue I stopped cycling tours completely. When cycling again, the issue seems to appear again.
I don't have a good ear for language, but I assume all the people at Larisa Cafe spoke the local language of Bahasa Indonesia. I like the sound, actually. When I was in Sumatra before, I set aside some time to learn some of the language, and it was relatively easy to learn and pronounce. Of course, I forgot everything I learned back then, even the numbers and greetings.
That's what I ended up doing. I didn't have a choice, in fact, because I needed to go to the immigration office to extend my tourist visa. I've been moving so slowly that my 30-day VOA was already getting close to expiring. 🙂
I've been lucky as far as bedbugs go. I've encountered them a few times in my life, and they can be a serious problem. But I haven't come across a place with bedbugs for a long time (knock on wood).

Thanks for the advice. I'm still hoping that that I didn't do any serious damage and that my knee will recover on its own. My right knee got better quite quickly. I'm hoping my left knee will do the same. So far, it still is causing me problems. 23:33 - Hi Doug, actually... that is not the "Islamic call to prayer", that is just the a long and continuous digital audio recitation of the Holy Qur'an by one the Imams of the Grand Mosque of Mecca (Syeikh Abdul Rahman Sudais)... An actual call to prayer is just 2-3 minutes long and has repetitive verses... for example - it starts with: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar" x2. (Allah is Great, Allah is Great)... followed by... "Ashhaduu Anlaa ilaha illallah" x 2 ( I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)... and then... "Wa Ashhadu anna Muhammadarrasulullah" x 2 (and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah)... and so on... the Islamic call to prayer is known as the Adhan or Azaan. 😀
I was thinking about that later on. I'm quite familiar with the call to prayer, and if I was thinking clearly, I should have known that was NOT the call to prayer. It didn't sound the same, and it went on for a very long time. Sometimes when I'm shooting a video and talking, I end up saying something that I almost instantly know is wrong. But I already said it, so I just continue on. 😀
They were very popular at certain stages of my childhood in Canada, too. And I played with them myself. I remember giving myself some very hard cracks on the knuckles and other painful places. The design of these ones seems better, though. It seems easier for the kids to get them to "klick klack" up and down as they are supposed to. The ones I used were much harder to master. I don't remember what we called them, though. I don't think we called them klick klacks. But the name we used escapes me.
As a muslim allow me to chime in, that long melodious chant is not a call to prayer, but a recorded Quran recitation. It's actually prohibited in Islam (according to the most correct view/opinion) to use a loudspeaker to play recorded recitations of the Quran or even to verbally recite the Quran loudly as it causes a lot of disturbance for the people on the streets and in houses. There is a clear prohibition in Islam to raise one's voice (non-imam) in reciting Quran in prayer to such an extent that it disturbs others, so raising it when it's not during the prayer without any valid excuses is even more forbidden.
It is not forbidden but advisable to keep the voice low not to disturb others. I think they play it for a period of time as they consider it to be virtuous.I agree they should keep it low not to disturb people in the community especially non Muslims.
@@SHAKHSIYAA Yes they probably think it's righteous to do so but in reality it can cause a lot of disturbance for the locals. It actually does more harm than good and I'm more inclined to follow the fatwa or opinion that says it's forbidden to do so without a valid excuse (such as for educational & teaching purposes).

when you can't find any hotels in small towns , you can try stay a night at any mosque in Indonesia.
