  • It looks like marriage might not be the main focus for women in the younger generation with as much as 51% confessing in a new study that holy matrimony just isn't practical anymore. Among them were 18 to 24-year-olds who believed that the union wasn’t a realistic goal. Judi says that time and time again there are women who are financially stable, who get married and then are doubly penalised. Myleene believes it’s the worst contract a woman can ever sign - and has told her daughters so!

Most kids haven't seen a stable marriage so it only stands to reason they don't see it happening for them.

Yes but women are left with the kids!!! She gets half, you mean the kids and the family you left behind gets half so your kids are set up, no?
Also when women stay at home and run a household and run your life it affords you the freedom to go out into the world and make money, why should her services go unpaid. You would pay a PA / a cleaner/ a chef to name a few job roles that most wives end up doing.

My dad has been married twice, my mum’s on her third, they put me off marriage however my Nan and Grandad have been married 66 years and I look up to them and admire them. They argued a lot but they made it work and didn’t give up on each other whereas my mum and dad split up after only 10 years.

Totally agree with Mylene - protect YOURSELF (and children if you have them) at all costs. Take the rose-coloured glasses off ladies and use your HEAD not your heart when it comes to love because a man's undying love can disappear in a heartbeat (trust me) so if you have assets use legal recourse to ensure that no man can ever take from you what he hasn't earned. Mylene's ex-husband virtually cleaned her out financially - no wonder she's terrified to get married again particularly now she has three children. She's older and VERY much wiser.

I’ve been engaged with my partner James for coming up to 8 years in November, and to be completely honest, I’m in no rush to have an actual wedding. At the end of the, living with him and sharing our lives together is more than enough for me without the financial burden of a wedding and the hassle of having to change my name and getting that sorted. Day to day nothing would actually change.

You don’t need to spend money to get married, I mean you can have a small ceremony with your closest family and friends. My husband and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and we literally didn’t spent any money on our wedding day. We wanted to be about us and what we wanted so we had few close friends and that was it.

I wouldn't make it a requirement in life. Marriage, for decades if not centuries, has been seen in life that you are SUPPOSED to be married and frankly that is not true.

I wish I could ask my mom about this because she worked in the 1950's even when she was married at least part time until she had children. She must have had bank accounts for pay checks. She didn't live near her parents so they wouldn't have been involved with her bank accounts. My mom and dad made joint financial decisions.

Mylene being seems very jaded in how she’s fear-mongering marriage.. I think a better message to take away is - TAKE YOUR TIME AND MAKE SURE YOU PICK THE RIGHT PERSON! Don’t base the decision on feelings and attraction alone because they will both decrease and fluctuate as you both age, a marriage is for a lifetime. Make sure you’re both fully aligned on the key principles in life.. family/parenting, finances, politics, trust, religion etc. Sure, read the marriage agreement properly but if you’re already unsure if it will last and constantly thinking about covering yourself, then it will always eventually fail.

@@hearmeoutbroSo sad to hear yr parents put you off marriage. Instead of fearing and cocooning yourself- ask God to give you wisdom to choose a marriage partner and pray He leads them to you and you to them. God is in control - He exists and loves you - just involve Him in yr decisions and plans. God bless you.

I wouldn't discourage but I don't think it's necessary. I don't think marriage should be a legal document that requires a court to dissolve. Two people can create documents for assets/will, medical advocacy, etc.

Stop placing your fears onto your children, because fears, avoidance, running away from and phobias only teaches children to fear, avoid, run and this leads to epic failures that build up and up!
