    Scales are for solos and chords are for rhythm playing... right? Whilst this is often assumed to be the case, chord voicings can actually be used to play tasty blues guitar licks that highlight the chord changes.
    You see, whilst all of your favourite blues players - Robben Ford, Josh Smith, Joe Bonamassa etc. - all use scales as part of their blues guitar improvisation toolbox, they also see the value in visualising chord voicings too.
    So, in this free blues guitar lesson, I'll be showing you how visualising a particular dominant 7th chord voicing can open up new pathways for you as an aspiring blues improviser, and help you get a step closer to landing on the right notes at the right time.

    You’ll Learn How To…
    ✅ Outline and target blues chord changes
    ✅ Phrase with an authentic blues time-feel
    ✅ Control tension and release musically and tastefully utilise triads, arpeggios and scales beyond the pentatonic
    ✅ Chromatically Colour your lines like Stevie Ray Vaughan and use diminished scales like Robben Ford
    ✅ Plus lots, lots More!
    Featuring an audio and video demonstration of every example, you’ll be able to see and hear exactly how the concepts, licks and solos are played.
    Bridging the gap between the tabs and the music itself, Ross demonstrates all the material, allowing you to go beyond the notes and study the technique and articulation.

    Great little lesson, Ross! You presented a valid and valuable approach to using chord tones in solos. We're all tired of hearing ourselves and others wanking with a single minor pentatonic scale that fails to fit all three chords. Well done!

    Hi Ross, I’ve got your book and recognise this as an adapted part of the online content. Just want to say how beautifully you integrate relevant and memorable bits of theory with fluent segments of actual playing. So often it’s one or the other. When you’ve assimilated theory as deeply as you have and got to such a high level of technical proficiency, it’s possible, as you demonstrate, to select what’s relevant from both areas and show how the knowledge works when experienced as ‘feel’. Great stuff. Thank you.

    I love your honesty. There is no magical scale out there it's repetitive practice and slowly you realize you're getting better and that encourages you to practice more seeing more and more progress. Yes I have your bulletproof book and I love it. I bought your book ok Amazon or I should say the course.

    I got your book and working through the 3rd chapter. I’m taking my time to make sure that I get the theory down along with understanding how to apply it. I’ve been learning for about three years now and I’m exactly at that point where I got scales down, but can’t seem to make music from them. I’m looking forward to learning from your book and make that jump.

    Just ordered the book looking forward to getting into it. Your right about the minor pentatonic. I’ve been stuck in it for years trying to work out how to do the changes. Your video described very well why you introduce the major 3rd and it has really helped. Another one that really helped was knowing where the root notes are on the fret board starting to build up that ‘uncomfortable’ knowledge!

    My suggestion to the Austin Public Library about ordering this book is under review. I'm prepared to say it's worth it just for this one lick, but I know some of what else you've got in there from the masterclass.
    If everybody who saw this requested it at their own library, and you only ever sold one copy to every library in America, you'd be rich rich RICH!

    ROSS, those are called Approach notes, not passing tones. FYI A passing tone is inserted only between two notes that are spaced a 3rd apart. There are different types of approach notes, diatonic approach notes, chromatic approach notes, etc An approach note is a half step down from the chord tone/target note.

    • @RossCampbellGuitarist
      @RossCampbellGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard them called that before! Only heard 'passing note'. Learn something new every day.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RossCampbellGuitarist yea classical and jazz composers use diatonic and chromatic approach notes. SRV used Approach notes as this slippery texas slurring effect which he will RE-INSTATE notes or repeated notes adding in these "texas approach note". You need to watch a lot of SRV live concerts and watch how he uses those texas approach notes to make a video lesson about it.

    • @RossCampbellGuitarist
      @RossCampbellGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waynegram8907 I've done a couple of videos on this subject before actually. If you search my channel for The Infamous SRV Lick you'll find it :)

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RossCampbellGuitarist When SRV, Dan Patlansky, Kenny Wayne Sheppard are playing scale runs when descending or ascending the concept is when you go back 2 notes you add an "out of nowhere" grace slide approach note, when is reinstating the note that was plucked the first time but you continued going down or up the scale but when reinstating a "previous note" in the scale you reinstate it with a texas slide approach note. You keep adding in these "out of nowhere:" texas grace approach notes when doing fast scale runs. Example you're playing a scale run A-B-C-D-then add an out of nowhere texas grace approach note between B-C then you play D-E-F-G then you add in out of nowhere texas grace approach note between E-F.

      @@RossCampbellGuitarist The minor pentatonic scale has Omitted The 3rd and 5th chord tones for the IV & V chord which aren't in the minor pentatonic scale of the KEY. When you add them back into the minor pentatonic scale having the IV 3rd chord tone and V 3rd & 5th chord tones add them into the minor pentatonic scale, what is the scale called? because its NOT a minor pentatonic scale anymore.
