Used to go Wimbledon religiously every Thursday night with my ex wife....Ronnie Moore...Trevor hedge...slim Jim tebby...Cyril maidment etc...Tommy was brilliant world champion in the making....was lucky to be in that era...great great riders and great memories
I remember this happening, so sad. I was a White City and Rye House fan and the one thing I hated was the injuries and, it seemed, like one fatality each year. I think Steve Whetherly was involved in the crash with Vic Harding and Steve was paralysed and, of course, Vic lost his life. I am so glad we have air fences now, I remember seeing the fence at Peterborough and I couldn’t believe it, they were like railway sleepers. Absolutely solid. At Rye House, if you hit the fence, you demolished it and got wrapped up in it like a chicken coup, but riders would get up and walk away from there, it broke their fall and slowed them gradually, not instantly. I hate seeing riders get hurt. I am glad the fatalities are much less now, but safety always needs to be considered and improved. It’s not for the riders to think about it, they don’t need to be thinking about that when they race, but definitely behind the scenes it needs constant consideration and review. I had a bike, but I never rode. Thanks for posting this tribute. RIP Tommy.

I have watched speedway for over 50 years and have never seen another rider with the same style as Tommy.
One of the greats taken to soon
