Random story. I was a teen in high school and usually walked to and from home and school. One day I was walking down an alley way and a couple was fighting over something and the woman threw a box of things at a man as he walked away. A CD case slid across the pavement about a foot away from me. I picked it up and started walking towards the woman who was frustratingly cursing at the sky as she snatched the cd from me and threw it back at the floor attempting to break it, but it didn’t break. So I decided, why not take it home? Lol. Turns out it was a Raul Midon cd. Never heard of him before, and at first listen I just wasn’t feeling it. Fast forward about 2 years later I was turning into an adult as the world was too. See cds we’re being transferred into MP3 players. As I was ripping my discs I came across this one again that’s been sitting around, and decided it wouldn’t hurt to have my options open for listening pleasures. Waited so long came on the shuffle all program I had going. I was like this song is pretty cool. Then a couple days later came across Sunshine and it hooked me in. For about a month straight I listened to that album day and night. As the years progressed and I’ve come across situations, people, emotions and this album was always the soundtrack to all of it. Never listened to anything else from him after that album but man that album got me through so many rough times, and applauded the small accomplishments in my life. Thank you Raul and thank you to the couple who tossed the cd.
Wow. Been a long time since I listened to Raul. "State of Mind" got a LOT of playtime in my early 20s, then he kinda fell off my radar. Shame on me. Thanks for bringing him on, NPR! Wonderful performance.
This guy shows incredible virtuosity in his instrument as well as great versatility of sound. I do personally think "I Love the Afternoon" is the highlight of this performance, his inventiveness shows throughout his catalog. I loved this greatly and I'm excited to look at the albums he has produced :) THX NPR
Bomboooooooooooo Andino! Also in Colombia :) Raul is such a nice player and amazing singer, love his style so fresh always. You're a great inspiration man.
I first heard Raul opening for Stanley Clark & George Duke in Melbourne many years ago. Just as he does here he gave so much gob-smacking joy and musical skill to the audience that the head-liners sounded dull in comparison.
Amazing. I hope these fingers are protected by UNESCO. Great vocals 2, and seing him do both at the same time with such ease is simply infuriating! :p Mesmerizing performance, thank you sir!
Loved him since State of Mind.
He's criminally underrated!
Oh I can see that, I'm definitely going to check his stuff right now
Me too. I've seen him 3 times. Once in Japan and twice in the states. He is a world treasure.
I agree!❤️
He's in the Still Bill documentary about Bill Withers. We ran into him in a restaurant once and he was the nicest dude.
Agreed! State of Mind was my introduction to Raul Midon and have loved him since. That album brings back memories.
Thank you for finding such talent for all of the listeners. NPR has always been a place to hear wonderfully beautiful music.

My first experience of Raul. It won’t be my last. Fantastic 🙏🏽
A fortuitous blend of vibes like Al Jarreau and Jose Feliciano. Great stuff, as usual. Thanks again.
Clarity and essence of Al Jarreau magnified.
You are one of the most hidden gems of our generation. Thank you for your work.
The sound of this recording is spectacular! What a special treat during these trying times! Thanks Raul and NPR TDC!

There are some times when algorithms are actually useful. 20 mn ago I didn't know who was Raul Midon. Now I know.
Check out the videos of him at the North Sea Jazz Festival. His cover of Jealous Guy is amazing
I first thought it was Al Jaroe, pardon spell. 💚✌✊
Raul Midon is iconic, so happy to watch him doing a session here!
I've seen him live a number of times since the beginning of his career. He's fantastic every time.

Terrific performance. The guitar mastery is fun, but, for some reason, I think his mouth fugelhorn work really stands out.
