I'm 61 and I've been permanently disabled for quite a few years now. The price for rent in my area is way to expensive. I used to travel in a motorhome with my wife before she passed and we had a great time and saw a lot of area. We also met a lot of very nice people and shared a lot of meals and stories. I'm thinking of buying a pu and build a sort of camper shell for it to travel and you have given me a lot of advice. Thanx very much and happy travels.

I really like these videos. I don't know if I would be comfortable giving up my permanent home or not. I have a little acreage and a small trailer. It's kind of like a permanent camp sight. But I would like to see more of the country. My budget don't cover much travel so I do it with these videos. These people aren't living off anyone. They work or live off retirement. The money they spend traveling or buying groceries contributes to the economy just like the people who live in one spot. Yes you can contribute to their blogs but that is up to you. You pay for tv or movies. If you use this as entertainment what is the difference? It's better than anything coming out of Hollywood.

Look into airbnb if you haven't. Private rooms can be really inexpensive there, and it opens up a whole new world of travel options if you're on a low budget. I recently stayed in a gorgeous, million dollar home for about $30 per night. It's pretty easy to drive somewhere, see the sights for about 3 days and spend no more than a couple hundred dollars.

  • @geebonzo

Wow! Quite a few people who don't like this idea at all. I grew up in Arizona and like the desert. But the desert is best in the winter. It's not lush. It's a desert. There are much harsher deserts. This is a relatively green sort of desert. You do what you do, out there. There's no snow. You get older and snow isn't really your friend.
My only gripe is that so many of these areas have been torn up by off road activity. Plus there is a lot of noise. Along the main roads in the LTVA, there can be 20 ATV's rolling by with a lot of dust and noise. I don't know what will be left of any of these places in 20 years.
Blythe would be good for shopping. The stores in Qsite are OK. You can sort of get around on an ebike, from the LTVA. But everything jams up in January. I liked it out by Plomosa, but now they are really serious about the two week limit. It sounds like a lot, but having to move when you are settled is a pain.
Alaska. That whole trip. That's what is left if you really want something wild and empty and natural. Have to do that.
    Great stuff.

    • @MrEroshan
      @MrEroshan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, yes, ATV's might end up getting us all kicked off public lands. I say if you want to drive fast, go on a highway, don't tear through the desert unable to even see what you are passing.

Bob I love your videos and I have subscribed. You are well spoken and very polite with all the folks you interview! Moreover the tips and technical content you provide is outstanding!!
While I don't necessarily agree that folks should be able to live for free on federal Iands I certainly appreciate your perspective. I personally believe everyone should carry their own weight in this country and one group of tax payers paying for management of BLM and federal lands or paying for health care and social security for others is just not moral. Right now I feel lots of tax payers are economic slaves to others and few consider how unfair that is in this day and age because the media doesn't bring it up nor do we want to admit to it because so many are takers not givers! Thus I am a user fee kind of person when it comes to camping and dumping your waste, and maintaining roads and infrastructure, using health care assets, etc.
Having said all that I do really admire how you try to inform people to be safe and to embrace a far less material life. Kudos to you sir!

I'm on a fixed income but have been checking out what item or items I could make and sell on the road to supplement what I exist on.. thankfully your videos give me more insight to the nomad lifestyle and have made me realize that I can do this alone as long as I have a nomad family to answer questions and give me advice on what works best and what doesn't..i know I will be happier than staying here in this small town that I have always hated and would have never returned to if it wasn't for my mom being here but she passed away in Aug 2019 and I have nothing to keep me here anymore...

If the temperatures get into the hundreds, can you not use an evaporative cooler in your RV? That's an internal swamp cooler and the only Power it uses is to turn the fan and blow water cooled air through the filter. Any solar outfit that you have for your RV can handle that, whereas it could not handle an air conditioner.

How do you get water? Is there any hook-ups available? Dump stations? You should give some info on some of these important issues.

Get a solar panel to run some AC units

    • @CheapRVliving

That takes a minimum of 750 watts of solar and no AC running overnight.

I make $4700 a month from my job but am ready to give it up for $1800 a month on retirement in a motorhome and my cat. Some things are worth more than money.

I was just going to suggest people see the movie, Nomadland. There are so many videos of people glamorizing this lifestyle, and the movie really gets to the reasons and realities of the nomad lifestyle. I fell in love with all the characters, some are true nomads, and some of their stories are heartbreaking. I highly recommend the movie. This channel is such a great resource for people.

It seems to me that van life is for those people who already have large savings account. Unless you have enough cash on hand to by a van/rv up . it would be very hard to start on limited income.

It seems like if you want to do it with full insurance etc it does cost a bit.

Honestly this is the most humble way to live. No rent and isolated with a dog perhaps hunting and trapping food cooking it over the wood stove maybe building on to the tent with wood logs stripping and building idk seems more humble then getting trapped in the rent game. Save so much money

Lol there's nothing to hunt it's government land you can't build anything on it. It's not Alaska it's BLM land in Arizona.

@@frankhall7005 yes you can build on government? Where did you get your source from?? Source: trust me bro.? Did you do any research also there’s things to hunt? There’s things to hunt right in the back yard I have now and there’s like 3 trees rabbits deer and squirrels if you don’t think there’s any animals in the middle of the woods your hot dog water

I like Yuma BLM myself. I don't know how you can say Blythe has cheap shopping. I have been there a number of times and find it outrageous expensive, especially compared to Kingman or Yuma.
I am curious to know what you do about garbage and fresh water when you stay there.

I have been really interested in doing this and have been watching many many videos. I thought there were more people out west to hang out with; I am not interested in traveling by myself as a single woman. I have to admit I felt a little bummed and discouraged after watching this video.
