I have one of these scopes. I bought mine back in may 2017 and a few months later I discovered that channel one was faulty. It couldn't display a squarewave with a high risetime anymore. But because I hacked it, to unlock all the extra features, my warranty was void. BUT, luckily I bought it at a shop and not online, so I brought it back to the shop. They managed to undo the hack and then they send it off for repairs. It took only 3 weeks and I had my scope back with a new PCB inside and it didn't cost me a penny. That's what I call excellent service and it is a fantastic scope. I LOVE IT!!

EdEditz - The reset is well documented on TH-cam. It is easier than the hack. If anyone reads this with the same sort of problem, search for the video. You don't need any help.

Awesome! Thank you!! I learned some things about my Scope!!! I've had mine for a couple of years, and it still works great! Best scope I've ever owned.

so you never turned it on for two years? come on, looks like this guy haven't read scope manual before shooting video, he doesn't tell anything worthy at all. In rus segment there is a two hour video review for this scope, event eevlog guy shot one hour video, how can you possibly tell about scope features in under 10 minutes?

Just started EE as an avocation. Thank you for the review mate.

I've got one of those scopes. There's a lot to learn.

@@f.a3202 it's the only one I own so have nothing to compare it to. It works fine for my use case.

Thanks for a very informative overview of the Rigol DS1054Z. You mentioned this was a good entry level scope for a "really serious maker". I was wondering if you could elaborate on what that means practically. Would you consider this an asset for a hobbyist who fiddles with Arduino and ESP32's and could you provide some examples of how this would come in handy. Much obliged!

I’ll state the obvious. The scope comes with a square wave reference generator. So since you have a function generator I’d hoped you would have generated signals at the scopes bandwidth limit to show the effect on signals in the 45-60 Mhz range.

I know there is a whole different type of DSO in the market, full touch screen, tablet and easy to carry, very user-friendly ----brand name is Micsig

Do we really need the lift music in the background? It is such a distraction from an otherwise excellent video.

I thought I read somewhere that the input channels were NOT HOT PLUGGABLE

Don't have isolated channels and channel cross talk each other, only good for people who need to measure same ground signals.

I hear many people advise that if you want to work with 50 Mhz you need a 100Mhz scope. It seems to me that with a DSO the behavior is more a function of the overall sampling rate than the maximum bandwidth. In other words this scope would behave the same when analyzing a 49 Mhz signal whether you have the 100 Mhz feature enabled or not. Is my reasoning correct? Can you comment?

Sample-rate is important, 1 GSa/s is fine for your 50 MHz signal, also display is important. New generation phospor displays are great for showing continuous signals.

It's true for ADC, DSP, spectral analysis, but not for an oscilloscope. WIth Oscilloscope you see wave form, not just wave frequency. With DS1054Z 1GSample/sec you can see waveform up to 200 MHz, but high frequencies will be attenuated. Level of attenuation is "channel bandwich".

Hello, is it Rigol DS1054Z still the best choice for a first oscilloscope?

I'd recommend second hand analogue scope for £50. This should be your 2nd scope once you know what your doing.

John Michael Stock i struggled a lot with my old TRIO crt scope.
Of course you can learn with them and how to operate them, but getting a cheap DSO really cleared up things for me.

Very stupid question.. would this work well with synthesizers?
Like 4 different synths :D 4 keyboards or synth modules or w/e. One per channel.
