  • Is an e-bike the best way to get around cities in Spain? After testing the Mokwheel Mesa Light 2.0 for the last month, I reckon it is. Click here to buy bit.ly/3vvsOcq and add discount code SW50 for €50 off.

    Hi Stu, I know you thought there were not many cyclist's using the bike lanes in Alicante city but i was there yesterday and there were cyclists everywhere you will be glad to know. I think you were just out filming a tad too early.

    Thanks for sharing and interesting to see how you get on with motorists, I find Spain far better for cycling than the UK in terms of infrastructure and acceptance. Since retiring I have barely driven at all and prefer to cycle everywhere. The 25 Kph speed limit applies to the motor only, the assistance won;t take you faster but it is perfectly legal to go faster under your own steam.

    You could use a couple of mirrors to check what is coming behind and side lanes.

    This is great! Sweden is not ideal for cycling long distances because of the cold but i have started now on my commute to work. In Spain definitely fun to bike. Especially good for us with excercise and cheap and good for the environment as an added bonus. That E-bike looks practical and a lot of fun! Ride safe😊

    Thanks for this video Stuart, we both have a MiRider electric bike which folds for getting in the boot of the car, they weigh about 17 kilograms each and we love them.

    Moving to the Marbella area soon from the US. Funny my wife and I were just talking about getting a pair of ebikes, so this is perfect timing!

    I absolutely love e-bikes! I've done three DIY conversions using Bafang brand mid-mount motor kits.
    I'm sure the 250W EU power limit was invented by bureaucrats living in flat cities. Try getting around, say, Granada on a 250W hub motor ebike!

    What an interesting segment today Stu!! Thanks so much. Please, please be careful out there. Not only may they be unaware of the rules, but they just don’t see you. Anything to make yourself more obvious (flashing lights, flags, bright clothes) the better!

    It would be a joy for me to cycle around like that in the UK, to much traffic, unfortunately. Great video and very good clean infrastructure.

    Thanks for this video. I’m seriously thinking of setting up shop in Spain to sell e-bikes. With inflation, high housing cost, and car prices going up, e-bikes seems like an economic imperative for most people.

    I 'm really worried about the layout of the bike lane, it crosses the traffic lane twice at roundabouts. Surely that's a recipe for accidents ? Most impressed with the bike, Stu, our own are self-converted hybrid bikes which are lighter than the commercial ebikes and so perform even better than those.

    My e-bike is coming with us when we head over. I’ll be bringing a couple of “regular” bikes as well. In Colorado when people park in the bike lane they often lose their side mirrors. No clue how, but it happened a lot!

  • @marcusjenkins
    @marcusjenkins หลายเดือนก่อน

    The electric motor *should* stop delivering power when you go over 25 km/h, according to the regs. If you're on leg power / coasting downhill then that limit can, technically, be exceeded. The bike you're *should* be working like that.

    Good to see you enjoying your e bike, Stuart.but do be careful. Parking in cycle lanes should be made prohibited 🚫 Thanks for the video

    Very interesting. I usually walk everywhere or hop on the metro (based in Bilbao), but may have to look into getting a bike like this one. Cycling is encouraged here; they even have counters on the cycling lanes and it often goes past 1000 on busy days.

    Very interesting and informative video Stu. That bike is really great value. We have had an E-bike for nearly 8 years now, really "old-tech" so am thinking about replacing it. However, as an OAP, I am considering a new-fangled E-TRICYCLE, which should be a lot safer, plus you can attach a really largish trailer to it for the shopping! Where I live in Portugal, it's very easy and safe to get around, so a no-brainer really.

    Only thing puzzling me with your cycle paths is They seem to be on the offside of the road rather than the inside lane meaning you cross the traffic twice while going straight across at a roundabout Ours in the UK are nearest the Kerb meaning less dangerous .I got a second hand ebike with a very bad battery for £65 and purchased a new battery for £115 front hub drive also limited to 25 KPH (16 MPH) So light I can pedal it easily without the assist folds up to fit in a car boot I love it round town

    I love the roads in Spain. Its a haven for cyclists. Roads are great, so are the cycle lanes. Spanish car drivers are courteous and law abiding. Now Italy, that's a different story!!!!! Complete road madness!

    I was interested in an e-bike last year when I thought I'd be living in Spain by now. I researched them and found a lot of EU regulations and it was confusing as in the USA they have a lot more torque. Decided just to wait until I move. I purposefully walk 5+ miles a day, so I probably wouldn't use an e-bike here.

    • @marcusjenkins
      @marcusjenkins หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you buy the bike from a store in Spain (not online) it should meet all the regulations. Ebikes in USA can be a *lot* more powerful and are legal for road use in most places. If you want more torque from the 250W motor limit in Europe, you should consider a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors drive where your pedals are, so the motor gets the benefit of the gears when you're going uphill.

    I had a cyclist run into the back of my car and damaged it. He picked his bike up, looked at me, got back on his bike and basically said "f*ck you" and rode off. If you want equal respect, get insured.

    Does the city have police bicycle squads? In some cities the police bicycle squad roam the streets of the city to ensure that the cyclists get treated fairly as well as their compliance to the rules of the road.

    I have a cycle lane outside my house, no parking but sadly cyclists are a total rarity. They prefer to stay on the road and mix it with the cars ignoring the road signs!
