I hope this guy lives to be a hundred. He is simply a professional. He was cast in almost all the classics and even had a crowd shot in “Seven Samurai”. Awesome and thank you for posting.
@@Dr.Pepper001 wow I didn't know that a 1990 version was made, I only watched 2013 but I have a knowledge of it as a remake from 1963.Thank you! By the way, SWORD OF DOOM is my favorite at par with Human Condition.
They did do preparations. Mifune was practicing his move and Nakadai practiced traditional pull and slice. But they didn't know what was choreographed.
Its not as complex as you think. Back then movies were cheaply made and they had enough time to choreographed and rehearsed. Plus most actors in japan from that era, came from theater background. Thus they had immense amount of patience and discipline, so they never complained and did their work with dedication
Akira Kurosawa, Toshiro Mifune, & Tatsuya Nakadai, Thank you all for the amazing movies that I never get tired of watching. Respects & love you all forever. Aragatooooo! (as they would say in Japanese)
He's got such a great face for a villainous character, but then in High & Low he also comes across as very kind and virtuous while trying to solve the crime
He had played a wide range of characters, from white collar pacifist good guys to treacherous beardy villains. such a shame Nakadai never got enough recognition, he always got overshadowed by Mifune.
The two titans of samurai films facing off at the end of Sanjuro was truly something to behold. Knowing it was done like this makes it even more unbelievably badass.

I like him in the 1990 version of 13 Assassins.

In one take without any preparations??? THIS IS AMAZING

They have too, considering the expenses of film making at that time that is why actors and actresses are very talented back then.

Man he looks good for being in his 80s!
He aged wonderfully

Personally, my favorite role of his was as Hanshiro in Harakiri: Nakadai was amazing in it!

It's hard to believe that Nakadai is 90 years old in 2023. He has a vast filmography.
So grateful for Criterion. I have been able to watch so many great foreign films, thanks to the Criterion collection.
Run the duel scene in slow motion setting and see the genius of the left-handed move.

If this was recorded in 2019, he's 86 here. He seems so much younger. Japanese genetics are impressive.
He was 86 ? He looks like still could beat the living shits out people around him.
It's not genetics. It's healthy habits. I mean it might partially be genetics but not entirely.
They eat a lot of raw meat and don't exercise, that's why.
Phenomenal actor love his wide range of styles throughout his career.
Great actor. Masters all of them

Wonderful "holy shit!" moment at the end of a great film. It was so much more than you were expecting.
Exactly 2 later, he becomes Harakiri star. both an awesome samurai movie by a different director
That's mifune, not Nakadai
@@jkjkjkssb270 nah its nakadai
Mind blown. Now I'm craving a rewatch of Sanjuro.
Also, is anyone else just gobsmacked when they see Non-Asians speaking Japanese?
*Not at all:* because *Japanese and Tagalog* are the *easiest Asian languages.*
@@Suite_annamite Says the guy who already knows how to read thousands of Kanji/Hanzi... Japanese is the hardest language to learn on this earth.
I love the Kurosawa movies
I have hangover feelings after watching their movies like nothing is better then these movies." Tatsuya Nakadi "🎌🎆
I felt that Sanjuro was better than Yojimbo. I feel like seeing it again!
Agree. Sanjuro is an underrated sequel
He's in his 80s? Already looks better than most ppl lmao
if you slow the frame rate and watch the duel, you will see the sword drawing technique that was used was perfect, especially Mifune's draw.
Damn, he's really good looking.
Imagine , Mushashi Miamoto in real life. That's Mifune Toshiro on a movie set .
Amazing!
LEGEND.
what a legend
Very Cool 3
So ein Schachsinn.
Great story
