I'm leaving Winnemucca for Glacier Park on the way to arriving the 31st thru the 14th. Staying at Shade Valley, 2 concerts at the Chip and Thursday at the Throttle. My 12th Sturgis. I split the Black hills into 4 major sections and go to the furthest point for the day first. Here are a few examples. Day 1 = Custer wildlife loop first then Iron Mt / Needles loop, Crazy Horse, Custer then back thru Rapid City exit 55 HD last before heading back for the night. Day 2 = Spearfish canyon road and all of the waterfalls, Deadwood, Lead, Mt Rushmore, Vanocker canyon thru Nemo and Downtown Sturgis for a very late lunch and the rest of the day. Day 3 = the big nipple/ Devils Tower, Heulitt, Belle Fourche, Full Throttle. Day 4 = Wall Drugs, Badlands, Rapid City. Day 5 = Downtown, exit 55 hd., kickstands campground. There are so many pull off vistas, shops, venders all over plus I ride all the roads in both directions, pulling off to the stops on my right-hand side= easy in and out. I have a list of bike shows, vender appointments scheduled already. Those are firm/ must do things. I'm there 14 days so I have a lot (8 or 9) of free days also. Plus, I do laundry on the rainy day= there's always a rainy/ hail / tornado day.
Nice, sounds like you got an awesome trip planned. I should be heading down from southern Alberta around the Aug 2nd or 3rd for my third trip to the rally, but i ran into some bike problems after my road trip last week that i need to resolve first. Have fun and ride safe.
The couple of times I was there, we went and got there on the Monday before the rally and left on Friday morning. It was great! We were able to ride around without the rally traffic through Needles, Rushmore, Custer, Spearfish, etc. Got some of the rally atmosphere on the final night as people came in without gridlock during all of the riding.
It is definitely overwhelming when you get there. A few spots I highly recommend are walking through down town Sturgis, riding the needles highway, checking out full throttle saloon, and of course the Harley dealership. But I almost guarantee you will have an amazing time
At age 54 I'm going for the first time. Riding out and back from Ohio on my 05 road king. I've got 800 miles of riding planned out for the region. I've put a lot of thought into my planning and my gear. Staying in Spearfish. very exciting. not gonna lie. I've got a lot of anxiety about it all but it is gonna be an adventure.
Congrats on making your first trip there. Definitely had some anxiety the first time I went not know what to expect. Turned out to be one of the best trips I have ever been on. Spearfish seem like a great place to stay so you are close to the action but still can be a little removed if you wanna be. Best of luck and have a safe trip.
As far as the anxiety, hopefully it's positive. If it's nervous anxiety, try not to let it get into your head. Be prepared for lots of traffic, especially in Sturgis proper. If you want to experience some of our more technical roads like Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway (speed limit is like 35....), head out in the early morning to avoid the traffic on those roads as the afternoons will be absolutely packed and frustrating for the riders that are used to those roads and used to going fast. When we do those on our Spyders we are frequently pushing people, but we ride those on the weekend just for fun at something more than the posted limit... Anyway, hope you have a great trip here and home and a great time while you are here. It's a great area to ride and there are tons of entertainment options during the rally.
Congrats on planning your trip. As a black hills resident my only suggestion is to not over plan. Let things slide that's where the adventure begins and why your on vacation in the first place.
New subscriber here, I was in Sturgis last two years in '21 and '22 had a great time both times. Next time I go there I either want to go out ahead of the rally and leave a day or two after it starts or get there a day or two before it ends and stay there a few days afterwards...
Hey thanks for checking out the channel and subscribing. I am thinking about doing the same next time I am down. It would such a different experience riding the area with significantly less congestion and traffic.
WOW that is a hell of a ride. What were you riding at the time? I hoping this one is going to be as good as my 1st time. My bike is loaded and ready to ride tomorrow. Cant wait :)
I just came across your channel and subscribed. I am happy to support a fellow moto content creator. Great overview of the Stugis experience. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👊👍
Definitely do it if you can make it happen. Such a great experience. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. Hopefully going to have a pile of rally content starting in a few weeks.
I have been riding since the 70's and now at 70 years old I have never been to Sturgis. My wife and I have a new Tri Glide now but at our age we. probably will never make that rally. As for the rally crap, I have been to many. But I would love to ride the Black Hills.
It alway awesome to hear about guys who are still riding in their 70's. The Black Hill are definitely amazing. I am hoping to make it back some time out side the rally to really explore them properly.
I asked my neighbor, that was raised in Custer, what he'd advise to biker going to Sturgis with, whiskey, in his title? He said, don't just ride through but check out Custer Brewery, an both levels! Neighbor goes to Sturgis during rally to see friends but they go for High School Class Reunion. So party with old an new friends, you might see them there!
Just curious ... why a leather vest but no sleeves, is it just a fashion thing ? Because it seems not functional and unnecessary. Like if you crash and slide across the pavement your torso will be fine but you wont have any arms. Your hands will still be okay I suppose because you got the gloves on and all ... I guess they just try and re-attach the hands at the shoulder so you would be like a human T-rex.
For me the vest offers some protection of some vitals while reducing heat issues, especially for in town riding and keeps the t-shirt from blowing up while riding. I know the risks and accept them.

Will be our first time out.... seems like so much to do in only 9 days....but we're gonna give it our best shot.

the vest keeps your t shirt from riding up on ya. air blasts up from underneath

If you drink a lot of alcohol, make sure you drink a lot of water.
100%, 😁
