Horizon should do these videos for all of their planes upon release. Its nice to see a presentation and hear directly from the product managers that created the aircraft. Does not have to be 30 min but even 5-10 min on the highlights.
Thanks. I have a sport cub and flown five times. My humble tips: Check balance and battery location, and trim carefully. Use dual mode at first. Best in no wind beginning, fly on slightly long grass for less damage than pavement. Great plane to grow with. And four channels
How is it for indoor flying? I live in Minnesota and winter flying is in the Gym. I had a spacewalker from you guys that I loved! I have your PT-17 that is kinda fast for the Gym but doable. A friend just picked up the Apprentice STOL S, He was excited to try it out but it needs to go way to fast to be flying indoors. My Night Vapor is relaxing. And I am looking for my new winter fun plane but can't seem to find, I miss the selection you once had.
Tip for beginners; early morning and late evening quite often sees very calm air even if its been (or is going to be) windy during the day. Calm air will also make the aircraft look far more realistic in flight. As an RC flyer you will find yourself looking to the trees to tell you wether you should fly or not.
love this airplane!! Yes, when flying in 5mph winds or less, it really works its magic.. It also can glide very good at high altitude with power off. Great small replica!!
I just received mine in Canada $189. Ive been searching for S2 info for a month.. I really like the cub. It is my 5th plane and my favorite to fly. I just got the floats and I've wanted to fly off water. Awesome!
I have one of these - and I find that it's unable to cope with anything other than a dead calm - any wind just blows it away. What I'd like to know is, would I be able to use the HobbyZone transmitter (that came with the Sprort cub S2) with another BNF plane? I want something a bit more powerful and heavier that will cope with winds.
Bought this plane from our hobby store Saturday to fly with my son after such a great experience with the xcub, took it up for its first flight and the wind took it and I haven’t seen it since. Fastest I’ve ever blown through $150.
Great video guys!!! I have the UMX TIMBER and love it, so I’m sure this one would be great to add to the hanger as well, really like the color, thanks for all the great work and videos 👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼🔥
Would you recommend jumping to this from a three channel before thinking about a UMX TT (+additional transmitter) considering the learning curve/grief factor?
David Lopez hi David.....the UMX TIMBER is a great and very forgiving plane with SAFE technology as well, and if your gonna be flying other planes in the future, I highly recommend a nice transmitter such as the DX8 g2, or Dx9g2, so you can advance as your planes in your Hanger increases , and trust me it will, I hope this helps you and let me know if I can help ya anymore👍🏼👍🏼
Mine arrives today! It's my first plane (I also ordered Eachine Trojan T28) however I will be learning on this one initially. Hoping to have a safe first flight EVER!
So I bought the Champ from you guys about a week+ ago and now have about an hour of flight time under my belt. There is a part of me, as much as I'm enjoying the Champ, that wishes I had just bought this Cub in the first place. So, as I posted awhile ago maybe the Cub for my BD in August?
I went to get mine today, wind was at 3mph. Came home about 1 hour later and the darn wind was at 12mph! I all excited to fly it as soon as I got home! haha
I'm sold! Will likely wait for my BD before I purchase. I have an ~2 acre front yard which I mentioned elsewhere and was told it'd be fine for flying micros. Update:9/6/2020 now have ~120 flights with this plane. Whish I had gotten this first before spending my money first on 2 "toy" grade rc planes. Crashed it a dozen times or so and put it into the trees twice. Repairs have all been relatively easy to make. Recommend, even after you've built some skills, to NOT fly in windy conditions. Getting 10-12 minutes flight time with aftermarket 180 mah batteries. I'm replacing the brushed motor every 50 flights or so. I can fly the Sport Cub S 2 in both intermediate and advanced modes but find the beginner mode flying more scale and most important to me most relaxing. I'd like to have the UMX Turbo Timber as my next plane but the added expense of an expensive Spektrum transmitter has kept me from making the purchase. I believe the Timber would allow me to more flying opportunities because it should handle some wind. I've only been able to get still air around sunrise and sunset so that's when I take my Sport Cub S 2 up. Great plane! Have fun!
@@brentnevius2849 Hi Brent, I've been able to advance to a UMX Turbo Timber and an AeroScout. I can easily fly the UMX Turbo Timber on my own property but to fly the AerScout I need to go to my club's field. Best of luck with your new bird!
Was the antenna in this new radio upgraded? The original radio had poor signal range and it's unusable in my area. It loses signal at around 50 feet...
Hi, I recently got one of these planes (the S 2) and have reviewed this video and a bunch of others several times. I've not found any discussion of the use of the High and Low rates that get activated by pushing the right stick down. Does this control the amount of travel of the control surfaces or the speed at which the control surfaces will move? Thanks.
Good point, I think it's the faster throw and a bit longer reach, it defaults to high even at start up binding, mine seems more fiddley to bind or pair up with rtf transmitter,
My S 2 flies beautiful in SAFE but goes into a diving left turn when I switch from SAFE to intermediate. The plane will hand glide straight and with a shallow decent in SAFE. When hand glided in intermediate or experienced modes same thing - dives and goes left. If I trim the plane for/in intermediate will it then screw up my really nice SAFE flying characteristics? Do I trim out the turning with ruder or aileron trim? Thanks.
I noticed flying my cub today with black transmitter that at times light went blue and it wasn’t responding to control inputs. My buddy told me he heard or read that range isn’t that good. So I gave up and bind it to my Dx6i and had no problem
The MLP6DSM transmitter included with the RTF version has about 100-300 yards of range depending on the environment you're flying in. The more 2.4GHz activity in the area (e.g. wireless routers, cell phone towers, other RC aircraft, etc.) the lower the range may be. That's because the "LP" in the model name/number stands for "Low Power", which helps to keep the size and cost of the transmitter down. The DX6i and other "full range/high power" Spektrum transmitters will offer many times more range in the same environments.
Yes! And you can see the proper settings for the DX6i on page 6 in the instruction manual here: www.horizonhobby.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dw89d0778f/Manuals/HBZ44000-Manual-EN.pdf
@@giz.ian. Yes! The DX6i was designed 15 years ago and was discontinued about 5 years ago. As long as your DXS came with a trainer airplane like the AeroScout, Carbon Cub, Apprentice or Habu, you won't need to change/adjust anything on the transmitter to bind it to the Sport Cub! Simply follow the steps on page 9 of the manual ( www.horizonhobby.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dw89d0778f/Manuals/HBZ44000-Manual-EN.pdf ). Connect the battery to the airplane first, while the DXS is powered off, so it will enter bind mode. Then hold down the Bind/Panic button on the DXS while you turn it on to put it into bind mode. After that the airplane and transmitter should be bound together :)
Yes! It will work with RealFlight Trainer Edition and RealFlight 9.5 (and all future versions of RealFlight!). You just need to use this wireless dongle: www.horizonhobby.com/product/ws2000-wireless-simulator-usb-dongle/SPMWS2000.html
My sport cub 1 cuts out and comes back quite a lot. It sometimes stops giving me controls and sometimes if i'm going down it heads directly down and gets about 5 feet from the ground then regains control. Does the sport cub s 2 do this too?
Yes! You can bind the RTF or BNF Basic version airplane (the airplane is always the same) to any Spektrum DSM2 or DSMX compatible transmitter including the DX8!
Other thing is in advanced mode I tried to do loop and it just went up and stalled. Same thing trying to do roll. Nothing really worked seemed like no power.
You will need to properly manage the airspeed to perform aerobatics and prevent stalls. Make sure you are using a good condition battery that is fully charged and performing well. Then, while using full power, it helps to dive slightly in order to gain airspeed before attempting to perform loops, rolls and other aerobatic maneuvers. The Sport Cub S 2 is definitely capable of them, and with practice and the proper technique, you will be able to perform them easily. Also, the 1S 200mAh 45C battery delivers more power (and longer flight times) and is better suited for performing aerobatics: www.horizonhobby.com/product/200mah-1s-3.7v-45c-lipo-battery-ultra-micro/EFLB2001S45.html
You can buy an upgraded 19000kv motor from micro motor warehouse that gives this plane enough power to weight ratio to fly in 10-15mph winds. Otherwise another small project is buying a flight controller and motor for the umx timber or champ s+ with motor mount and prop adapter and 5x3 prop. Then you gotta get the 2s 300mah lipos to power it and you'll have a umx super cub that will handle 15-25mph winds with ease. Mine sits with the 19000kv coreless brushed motor. I put a 200mw vtx and caddx micro camera in it for fpv. I also fit the umx Timber bushwheels and leading edge slats on it for a cool little STOL Bushplane. 15ft rollout on takeoff and 5ft on landing with no wind. She flys for around 5 1/2 minutes on a 450mah 1s battery. The new motor handles all the added weight with the stock propeller.
Well here is my opinion on the brushed motor, I made 20 perfect flights and the motor went bad this was this week in a gymnasiym, I really like this plane but I would pay extra for a brushless motor set up so I can enjoy it for a long time.
Thanks guys; however, I have to disagree on flight times. I love the plane, but it's brand new, new fully charged batteries and I'm lucky to get 3-4 minutes, flying "conservatively". Not really enough time to get familiiar with and acually enjoy the plane.
The flight times you are experiencing are definitely not typical! It's possible the batteries are not actually getting fully charged (it's not easy to do, but you can use a digital voltmeter with sharp/fine point probes to check the voltage of the batteries after charging them...they should be 4.15 to 4.2V), are too cold (this can be a problem with all LiPo batteries when flying in temperatures below 50 degrees F), and/or if you leave them fully charged for more than a few days at a time (the longer you leave them fully charged the faster they will lose usable capacity due to the internal resistance increasing). It's also possible the gearbox could be binding or the motor is not performing as it should (resulting in higher current draw and shorter flight times). Also, we now recommend using this Spektrum 1S 210mAh 50C battery in the Sport Cub S to achieve maximum power and the longest possible flight times: www.horizonhobby.com/product/3.7v-210mah-1s-50c-lipo-battery-jst-ph1.25-connector/SPMX2101S50.html
I'm not sure why they don't have more umx airframes. I want a umx ultralight series with the Quicksilver Sprint and maybe an aerolite 103 in there. The Kolb Firefly would be a cool little umx plane too.
Horizon hobby please retire these tired gutless core less motors,it’s 2020 everything should be brushless us customers don’t mind paying abit more for a better performing product
Today I flew my sport cub S2 and it flew up up and up and we couldn't stop it and it flew and flew away and we searched for hours and we couldn't find it
When I took it out to my air field some of the useless pilots that are there laughed at me for flying this. I was like guys piss off you are acting like you was not ever a beginner flyer. and I just ignored them. amazing you find wanna be bullies in this hobby like I have in my drone hobby and I have been flying for years and guys make fun of others that just start out and I say YOU ONCE JUST STARTED SO SHUT THE FRACK UP and I didnt say Frack!!

Does this one have a brushless motor or is it the same as the old one.And the speed is slow.
This is addressed starting around the 4:30 mark
You can buy an upgraded 19000kv motor from micro motor warehouse that gives this plane enough power to weight ratio to fly in 10-15mph winds. Otherwise another small project is buying a flight controller and motor for the umx timber or champ s+ with motor mount and prop adapter and 5x3 prop. Then you gotta get the 2s 300mah lipos to power it and you'll have a umx super cub that will handle 15-25mph winds with ease.

Why didn’t they use the better foam that’s more durable on this plane? A lot of cheaper planes use the better foam.
ADD THE STRUTS ALREADY
Can I have a free one ?
Yes you can
Do a Micro apprentice
I'm not sure why they don't have more umx airframes. I want a umx ultralight series with the Quicksilver Sprint and maybe an aerolite 103 in there. The Kolb Firefly would be a cool little umx plane too.
Horizon hobby please retire these tired gutless core less motors,it’s 2020 everything should be brushless us customers don’t mind paying abit more for a better performing product
I love this plane I did a video too
Today I flew my sport cub S2 and it flew up up and up and we couldn't stop it and it flew and flew away and we searched for hours and we couldn't find it
Oh that sucks!!!
Jason could you talk a little faster please.
They 4 bank 1s charger sucks, needs a V2
Will this work with a MLP4 DSM transmitter ? This transmitter come with some of the blade helicopters I have, will it work ?
