And since they OWN the Line, it is also Not abandoned. Railroad tracks are never abandoned. They can go unused for a long period of time but are still owned by Their Railroad Company and can Reopen and Use the Lines When ever They want to.

A lot of them have been sold. You are correct though that if they still own the property no issues with permits and it really should be inspected.

I grew up here in Mass and about 1/4 mile away is train tracks and I remember as a kid the crossing towers where the the watchmen would have to step outside and crank the gates down and up and they used flares every time a train came, one day while in my yard I heard the whistle blowing and looked, I seen the black smoke and knew it was not a normal train, it was a locomotive the was wood powered..I am 60yrs and I would love to see the old tracks around the country come back into use, the tracks near me are still in use and in fact you can go to the next town over and catch a train to Boston, in the summer you can take one to Cape Cod...i miss the old days and someday we are going to be free again and hopefully we can bring back the old rail trains, I live in Taunton, this city use to make trains and had a round house but of course every time they elect someone that is not from that era they say out with the old and in with the new, honestly" they could care less about how old something is, they all make money on back room deals...thanks fro the video...subbed...

Frank you need to be a mover and shaker. Get elected in some sort of elected official and start moving and shaking things up. Make things happen. I know you can do it. I live north of you in the Braintree area. I'm so glad that years ago they restored the old colony line. Love seeing the trains pass by. Randolph used to have 2 separate rail lines passing thru. One has been restored as the Old colony Middleboro line and the other line the tracks were ripped up and now it's a bike path. Glad we still have something.

As someone who spent family vacations at DeBordieu growing up and who still has family living at Pawleys Island, I have fond memories of day trips to Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island. One of my favorite sights going into Myrtle Beach is the old drawbridge, and I’ve followed the train tracks from the train station on out just for fun (yes, I’m that weird of a rail fan that I’ll follow old/abandoned tracks on Google Earth!). Nice to hear that they’re going to restore the bridge and tracks going to Conway so there will be passenger rail service to the beach again! WOOHOO!
HeavenOcopter?? First time I ever heard of “helicopter” being considered a cuss word, but to each their own.
Anyway, thanks for the trip back to my childhood and for giving me hope for the future!

Awesome Jaw Tooth you came to my neck of the woods. I live in tabor city I remember when the old Carolina Southern Railroad operated that line they serviced a coal burning power plant in Conway own by Santee Cooper where the tracks stop. when the plant closed I think it hurt the old rail company and they shut down after that I believe. RJ Corman has a regular rock train that comes through. The rail line starts in Mullins SC the Andrews subdivision CSX line then to Nicholls SC, Fairbluff NC, Chadbourn NC, Tabor City NC, Loris SC, Conway SC, and ending in Myrtle Beach. I’m a big rail fan keep up the awesome videos. But wait there’s more

Damn Son! I didn't know you came down here to visit us!! You need to let me know when you're planning another vacation here!! LOL!
It was the Carolina Southern Railroad and they ceased operations back in 2012.
The bridge you were photographing crossed the intercoastal waterway. It was developed during WW2 so that ships could sail the inland waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts of the United States. It runs from Massachusetts southward along the Atlantic Seaboard and around the southern tip of Florida, then following the Gulf Coast to Brownsville, Texas. This was to protect them from German submarines!
PS. Is there any news from RJ Corman Inc on the progress regarding this line? Thanks!!

Welcome ladies! The truly depressing thought is industries these rail lines once served have disappeared. Smaller towns like Myrtle Beach and Conway always had some sort of factory supplying jobs for locals and high school grads to make stuff to send across the USA and abroad. The jobs that are left remaining are light industry or service and knowledge skill based jobs.

@@JawTooth -Will do. But remember with a real video camera you can control dept-of-field, motion blur, do better at exposure control, get better quality, etc. Opens up new doors in creativity - if you are into that. As a pro-videographer, quality is important to me and I attain much better video than with cellphone or tablet. Just thought of it - take a look at the Nikon Coolpix P1000, not a pro camera by any means but that 3000mm zoom lens and macro capability gives you options like no other. I am using it more and more over much more expensive cameras. But no matter, really enjoyed your video and will seek out the others. And in your travels, be careful of that evil virus! Got a buddy who lives in Conway who acquired the mechanical plans for the bascule bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway from the state and built an operating version in 2-rail O-scale. He also told me the Red Hill depot was built from the plans of a Santa Fe depot that was in Model Railroader magazine. This was back in the 80s.

  • @lorenjackson8961
    @lorenjackson8961 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I was stationed in Myrtle Beach during the 80's from 84 till 90. Even at that time....trains hardly ran that line at all. The only thing generating revenue on a steady bases were the coal cars brought in for the Santee Cooper powerplant in Conway. I've heard the rumors about RJ Corman wanting to upgrade the line and bring it back into service. If they do....they'll probably only do it for freight and the improvements won't cross the Waterway. The capital investment that would be required to fix that line for passenger service would be huge, and they'd never get regulatory approval from the DOT if they didn't.

The bike trails preserve bridges, which if not for the bike trail development would be pulled out and cut up for scrap, and embankments. Tunnels and cuts are kept clear of falls. Many of these routes were not self-supporting. Some had been bought by counties and states, so weren't burdened with property taxes. They couldn't generate enough revenue to pay for operating, maintenance and repair costs. Obsolete, inefficient, high-maintenance hand-me-down locomotives purchased for scrap value still couldn't keep the RRs going.

When he gave it back he said be alittle more wise with your money... the next week Ricky corman spent $3600 to buy an old Detroit maintenance set. He hired a crew and went to work. It wouldn't be a traditional passenger travel service, it would be a tourist scenic railway... Departs Conway, couple hour layover in Tabor City, returns to Conway. Probably four or five hours round-trip. Why Conway? Unfortunately the intracoastal bridge is in serious disrepair and RJ has no plans to fix it (as of just a couple months ago), so the scenic railway will have to be based out of Conway and not Myrtle Beach... This could be a big blow, because now you're asking tourists to drive from the beach to Conway to catch the train. It would definitely make more sense to base a scenic railway out of Myrtle Beach than Conway, that way the route could be Myrtle Beach to Conway, not Conway to Tabor City; there's literally nothing in Tabor City that people want to see. Of course if by some miracle they ever did get the bridge fixed and line open to Myrtle Beach, you'd possibly have Amtrak wanting in.

The whistle marker actually got it's start on the waters of England. When the Queens boat entered an inlet, two long blasts then a short blast followed by another long blast is Morse code for Q, which told people to make way, the Queen is coming threw!

Read an article from 2020 said work was progressing, but wasn't planned to go south of the Intercoastal Waterway because of expense to repair the bridge.

There are a few more sidings still in place under the weeds there in Myrtle Beach. They are for businesses on the old "Y". The tracks are covered so badly that you really cant film them because nobody would be able to see them. The crossings just completely paved over the tracks but at least they are still in place. If you look on Google Maps you can make out where the "Y" is and you can trace the sidings in Myrtle Beach to the loading areas. I like looking at that old stuff but most of it is on private property. Thanks for watching!

This was a great video Jaw Tooth. When I noticed that the name of the railway featured was "R J Corman," I thought of the film director Roger Corman. I'm also reminded of the author Cormack McCarthy. Anyway, thanks for a great video!

I've seen the Corman engines, 3 of them, pick up freight in Cresson, PA., Live Stream Camera from "The Station Inn". It was a weekly event although I haven't watched lately.
Great camera to watch, a lot of activity.
