Love the videos. Can you tell me, how you cleaned the dirt and mould off the white fibreglass on the top half of the boat? It looks brand new after your cleaning.
Hi, yes, I used the cutting compound pictured in the video at 5:35 mins and then went over the entire boat again with the product shown at 5:56 mins in the video. I won't butter this up for you.... It Is Extremely Hard Work, and very time consuming! But, if you put the effort in, well, you have seen the results.
So first up was the fast cut compound. There are 4 different abrasive types in the 3M Compound range, denoted by yellow, green, blue and white lids. Check TH-cam vids for these. I used the blue lid for most of it, and the white for the stubborn bits. I also used a polisher machine (as pictured on the 3M bottle) to polish the hull. I did the (white) deck and roofs by hand by putting a small pea size blob on a rag that was wrapped around just 2 of my fingers to polish a 2x2 inch square. And yes, I did the whole deck by doing this. ie Time consuming. On the stubborn bits, don't give up. Go over it again and again until the yellow is white again.
I did the same thing over the whole boat with the chemical guys boat polish, and though this does take time too, it is so much easier and thus faster to apply.
I will say, that not all polisher machines are the same. A £40 car polisher will not work. You need one that has different speed settings as it needs to have a good amount of torque to it. Also, don't run the machine too fast as it generates heat. It Is Easy To Burn The Fibreglass Gel Coat. Slow and steady on small areas at a time. You can lubricate the polish using water in a spray bottle. I hope this helps.
Looking for a hardy navigator to renovate and I’m not having much luck finding anything suitable. Do you know of a similar type of boat I could search for?
Also - i think I'll need to replace the windows on a Hardy Pilot I'm buying. Did you order your replacements from Hardy? And the black rubber seals? Grateful for any info there!
Hi sorry for the delay to reply. Desktop died and no messages are not available on mobile version. Ok, the windows are the original glass on the sides, but the front was a replacement perspex we cut ourselves using the original as a template. The tint we did ourselves too using Limo Dark tint, available on ebay. There are lots of tutorial vids on TH-cam of how to tint windows. The seals we bought from Seals Direct. If you send them a sample they will send you the correct size seals. Don't guess the size! send them a sample. We opted to buy the rubber trim tool too as it makes it so much easier to refit the trim. Hope this helps...
Hi, I’m looking to copy your hatch solution for my Hardy and would really like to ask some questions about it. Would that be ok and is there a way I can contact you - FB maybe?
Hi Steve he has a list of jobs that need doing that he is working his way through. He said it will be for sale but not for a little while. I need to put you in touch with him somehow. ..
The diesel heater, best addition I've put on my pilot, turned it into an all year round fishing weekender.
Hull looks fantastic.
Always prefer to watch something not being pushed, cheers.

Amazing job. What did you use to re-coat the inside of lockers/hull. e.g. at 8.18 and 11.31?
The paint in the hull is Hempel bilge and locker paint. Give it a good sanding and wipe with a damp cloth to get a good key for the paint to bond.
