    Bruce the advice you give is a treasure trove of musical wisdom. It’s like the exact stuff our inner Amen section is waiting to hear. I got to see Barney playing that guitar back in 80’s when I saw Ellis, Byrd and Kessel play at University of ME.

    Can't get enough Bruce. Talk about a talent deserving wider recognition. I hope there's some video of the mini tour he did with Martin Taylor.

    This is brilliant!! Very informative, and human. Remember, Django, Christian, Wes, etc, were guitarist's who were imitating the horn and piano players playing the melodies back then!! Our generation were imitating other guitarists, forgetting the essence of the melody, and learning about breathing while soloing. And the greats back then listened to more than just jazz, or blues, etc. Learn it all!! Also, like what Bruce said: When have you heard a person walking down the street whistling a chord progression?? lol. It's all about the melody!!

    Hi Bruce, I could listen to you for hours - and I do! The way you approach, live and enjoy playing the jazzguitar is so obvious, so to speak, but not many teachers do. I thank you for the inspiration that you offer, and I am looking forward to learn more from you. All the best!

    Hey, Bruce, @ 9:48 I have several large palettes of individually shrinkwrapped industrial containers of "Wartzenahl" that I'm trying to get rid of. Can they be recycled or should they just be consigned to a mental landfill somewhere and allowed to pass out of memory?

      I am 68, been a jazz fanatic since I was 16, no one comes near Tory, she makes everyone sounds like they are driving model T’s while she left them in the dust driving a UFO. All this guy is doing is regurgitating cliches, she is so beyond this.

    • @mattdelany6799
      @mattdelany6799 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nakim55Tory makes jazz cool. I am not gonna say anything bad about this guy. Tory has just blown my mind.

    • @nakim55
      @nakim55 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattdelany6799If you listen to about 15 videos of Tory it becomes evident she can cover about any style effortlessly, she is the first guitarist to come along since lenny Breau to have that kind of breadth of mastery. She is a innovator, heck, she can move from country to Sun Ra in a matter of seconds and make it work. If I want to hear Wes or Pass licks, I will go directly to the source.

    • @mattdelany6799
      @mattdelany6799 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nakim55I have messaged rick beato about her. He can only make money interviewing talented players. Tory is up there with Hendrix to me. Spread the word.

    Hey Bruce, the first thing you've got to rethink is how to get a good sound out of an archtop guitar! You're picking the strings way too hard, your guitar's action is too low and your strings are too light. Jesus man, relax your shoulders, arms and hands. You need to refine everything. Most importantly, it just doesn't feel good, Bruce. Where's the groove? You're not swingin'! Your time is all over the place, rushing sometimes, dragging others ... ragged and sloppy. I'm not suggesting perfection is the goal, however, consistency with a nice groove are absolute prerequisites! Go back into the woodshed.
