They truly have! I know that it really was a lifeline for so many of us during the pandemic. Judith and Sandy gave us a great gift 💐 I've raised my hand to help it continue on in some shape or form but don't think any of us have that same magic.
What beautiful makes you shared with us. They look really good on you. I love the idea of patterns for mature bodies. I'm definitely going to have a look at them.
Thank you for this update Janine. Your new sewing room (refreshed) looks wonderful. Thank you for linking to Diane's podcast too. She's doing great designs for the mature body.
Thank you, Maria! I love the new colour. The old wall colour tended to put a yellow cast on everything. Only one problem with it, the new carpet is a short shag so I'll soon have to buy a magnet to find dropped pins 😁 Diane is going about her business in such a thoughtful, planned way. I'm enjoying seeing her business grow!
@@JanineSews This year I have a few of Diane's patterns to make up when the weather here cools down. I love, love, love the cowl ideas on the top you made.
Those tops are fab, thanks for sharing! I think #sewover50 will go on as our group as a whole were put on the back burner... no longer. Good vlog, enjoyed it! 👌
Thanks, Shirley! I hope you're right. I think the hashtag will continue but we will likely miss the tips that Sandy posted and the guest editors. (Sandy is just a mastermind with IG!) Hopefully those who have wonderful things to share will continue to use that tag. Just thinking that maybe Judith & Sandy need to share a new tag - like #so50tips or #so50techniques so the good ideas can continue to be found.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. I just finished sewing Valentine dresses for my 3 granddaughters 18" dolls. Turned out really cute. Have you ever found any challenges for doll clothes? Your swingy tops are very pretty!!
That is awesome! I sewed some outfits for a young friend's dolls a few years ago and it was really fun! I just did a search and it appears that Avery Lane Sewing has a sewing bee every year for doll clothes. Here's a link to their website: averylanesewing.com But I will definitely keep an eye out and will include in future challenge videos!
Hello Janine Love your makes I have a couple of butterick and a VOGUE pattern that has that shape and style as the top love them It's a great style for our over 50 figures I also have discovered " Shepard fashions " on Utube They are a retail company based in Ottawa They have been doing fashion shows and featuring dressing different body shapes I love to watch the way they put together outfits It is for women our age Then I go looking for patterns to sew the look Just thought I'd share this with you I have enjoyed watching it Your sewing room is looking great I did notice the new color Enjoy happy sewing Take care
Hi Joanne! Thanks so much for sharing that channel! I've just added it to my subscriptions. I really enjoy all of the styling channels. It's amazing how one little change can transform an outfit and how we look! Here is the link in case anyone else is interested. www.youtube.com/@ShepherdsFashions1
Hi Janine! Love your newest tops and skirt, especially how you’ve color blocked the sleeved top. I thought the black cowl looked like you had a jacket with a black top until you stood up. Very flattering lines with the black cowl and godets almost give the same lines as a half tuck on a regular squared off top. Hope that makes sense. I also wanted to say that apparently a lot of women in the US at least could benefit from these style lines and patterns from Diane. I have pasted the current US CDC statistics for the “average” adult American woman -all ages. Women: Height in inches: 63.5 Weight in pounds: 170.8 Waist circumference in inches: 38.7 So it is readily apparent that most women have apple shapes and are on average 5’3.5” tall, making it a challenge for most women to sew from traditional sewing patterns without a lot of alterations. I heard Diane say in her video that she drafts for 5’4” so she is right over the target 😅. My mother (5’3”) had a terrible time finding patterns that suited her figure, although in those days (1960s), Big 4 sold “half sizes” for the shorter, mature figure. She finally was able to get help from the Farm Bureau Extension service for selecting and fitting a pattern block and she looked amazing! So thank you for your efforts for the over 50 crowd and know that maybe your videos are helping the younger crowd too❤.
This is all great information! Thank you so much for sharing this data. I'm definitely taller than average (as is Diane!) but everything else lines up about right. And in spite of places like Instagram and Facebook encouraging people to share pictures of themselves, in my eye there is still an unbalance in what is posted and the average person. I'm not thrilled with myself when I pull up the shirt and see the round belly, but it is what it is! Appreciate you watching and commenting 🌺🌺
Thanks for this information, Sun Shine. I use the ASTM standards for American women age 55+ and built my block using a 60-year-old fit model. It's astonishing to me that so few designers take on changes to the body shape as we age. Luckily for us, we can sew! Your mom's experience with her own block sounds go wonderful too.
Janine this is awesome. I think you missed bhmpattern designers challenge by sew natural Dane. Sew a pattern designed by a black pattern designer and post by the end of the month. Sewing not allowed to start before February. I'm planning Duana Chandlers Ada Peplum and I'm a little intimidated by it. I am definitely going to go check out style Falcon
Cat, thank you so much for sharing this challenge! I'll add the details with the others. It's sometimes hard to find challenges so I really appreciate you letting me know!
@@JanineSews I know it's hard to keep up on all the challenges! I love doing them, but I can't find them all myself. That's one of the reasons I watch you.
Hello. Great video and it's always good to see another pattern company. I just found your videos in January, subscribed and went back and checked out your past ones. You put out very good content and I enjoy watching. I'll be interested in finding out what's happening in Calgary. I used to live in Cochrane and and loved it. I must make it back out there one of these days.
Leann, thank you so much for your kind comments! I'll definitely be sharing what we have planned. It's quite exciting! I appreciate you watching and subscribing. 💐
SewOver50 is going to change in some way or form - likely dramatically - at the end of March. The account may be put to 'sleep' or it may continue but in a very different way. They're looking for suggestions but it's just not sustainable for them to continue basically working a full-time job on the account. I think it's an opportunity for others to step up and take a lead in finding ways for all of us to connect! :)
The SewOver50 community has been amazing. They've done such an amazing job of developing a true community.

Thank you for sharing these pretty patterns, and for sharing yourself ~ Great to see a “real woman’s figure”.
Thank you so much, Diana!
Both outfits look amazing on you and very comfy😊Love the styles for us mature ladies.
Thank you so much, Brenda!!
