This clip is demoniac, the raw quality, the disgusting blast, the ominous singing and guitars. And that last snare roll concluded with a casual rim shot. Man, what a master class.
"I think he ranks as good as Derek Roddy" jep, just right. :) they both are gods. kollias is just starting to experiment with his drumming stuff, lets see what his one-man band will show. :) i am a fan of both of them. kollias gives me the motivation to work on my technique and derek gives me the motivation to work on my drumming as a drummer. both things are very important to me. the video is awesome by the way, there are too few of these. :(
Muzach I would be more than happy to upload the footage I have of Mr. Roddy doing a drum clinic, its a 17 minute solo full of Jazz and latin grooves, with an obligatory blast in the middle (which is about a 30 second long onslaught) unfortunatley I don't own the rights to it, however have a look on here for MrObsidian, you might be surprised at his blues playing
It's that most of Nile's tracks with Kollias on are just blast beats, single stroke rolls and blazing pedals. However he encripts his own style into the music, especially in Laying Fire Upon Apep and Eat of the Dead. Theres no doubt that Derek Roddy is amazing I just think that Kollias isn't given enough credit because he may not be as experimental with his drum playing than Roddy. His endurance is incredible though and just for that I think he ranks as good as Derek Roddy. xo.
@MBeroose The same is true of about a million artists. It's quite a feat for a musician to generate a following based on their individual merits, sans band. Derek Roddy has accomplished that, and that's why he's the man. On a side note, I had to watch LOG in concert twice, in order to see other, better bands. The vocals were not original (How long can you girl-scream into a mic? 60 minutes, apparently). The one thing I DIDN'T notice was the drumming. Super-average, solid but unremarkable.
Right, Firstly to all the people talking shit, ragging on drummers, Shut up. secondly, there is no best drummer in metal, all the top cats have their own unique style, Flo's Style is very Improvisational, Derek is very Brutal and tight etc. Different playing styles does not make the drummer crap.
I will disagree on this, george pretty much only blasts and does single stroke roles the entire time. Listen to hate eternal - i monarch, and tell me that george is more technical. Not to mention george looks up to derek, and got his style from derek.
Derek Roddy is a better death metal drummer However George is a better technical death metal drummer He can fill a gap extremely well and plays drum parts that drummers would usually avoid. I listened to a Hate Eternal song, and there was nothing but blasting the whole way through quite literally. Derek has the skill of his double kick, double hi hat technique but lacks the skill to put all his signature styles into good use. So I have to back Kollias on this one xo.
Dont have to, just going with the flow of the comments. And thanks. Obviously you arent a drummer otherwise you'd not knock any of these people's morales. xo.
thhis is prbly the best death metal drumminng i have ever seen, derek roddy never ceases to amaze me

Man, his endurance is incredible! watching him play bomb blasts and then straight into double bass makes my legs hurt.
i was there .........for the show....awesome
i love how he uses 2 snares at that one part, sounds cool
DeathMetal is one of the few styles where the drummers are the stars. Drummers are always the guys in the back.
INSANE, FREAKING CRAZY DEREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fukin beast!
True master
you should put up the powers that be video from this show.

His triggers kept hosing up :(. the rest of the concert he was wailing on his kit like he was going through it. haha.
lawl XD
Serious speed in the last 30 secs, not that Derek was slow anyway :))
Derek is god

No, he is very talented.
Spellcheck?
you forgot the mighty GEORGE KOLLIAS
You obviously don't know what "blast beats" or "death metal" is. This is some of the sickest shit on TH-cam.
flo is really great drummer but derek has better groove.
1:30 Kafir?
This song was written many years before :) But yes, called the "marching blast."
Derek Roddy is a better death metal drummer
However George is a better technical death metal drummer

And who the fuck cares? Im big fan of george 2, but dont compare george and derek they are different drummers
I still dont get why a great drummer like Roddy plays in a super boring band like Hate Eternal
nah! roddy is way better than kollias.
